Off The Bench

Off The Bench

Have to admit that watching the replay and hearing Kevin Walters and Cory Parker holds a perverse satisfaction when they're talking about a come back at twenty nil down.

If Kearney has fixed anything with this side it is the ability to hold out half time leads at 100 % this year.

Btw wot was Kata doing when the scrap was on ? running in and trying to jump on everyone......son if you have to jump to be in the fight you might want to reassess your decision to get into one.

I'm 6ft 3 an there is no way I'd pick a fight with kata.
He's a power house .

Anybody else catch the deliberate Sims knee to Paasi's head in the wrestle on the ground after Paasi scored his try, obviously the refs missed it but Aggy took the high road and played on without bitching. Now that's how you beat the convict opposition and the refs to win..

That's just script to keep viewers interested, I highly doubt they believed it.
Yes. Agreed. Well they might have meant it but, thats the warriors of old. losing 20 point lead to the tigers in 10 mins to lose etc, happened, 4 or 5 times couple years back. so i think teams think they can come back against us. thats not how we lose any more. if we lose, its because we just dont show up at all and get beaten 10 minutes into the game and 30 points are put on us. As Mooks puts it, everyone is intitled to a bad day at the office. Unfortunately for us this year some games its been most of the team having a bad day. Hiku in the Panthers game though, that was sickly bad, Im glad they winged him, gave him the chance not to be under pressure. And whilst big Ken does his stats week in week out, Hiku was up there with Kens stats on a good day. So hes not a total right off imo. If we ever wanted a utility back on the bench, hes our man imo. Or if we need a hole plugged, back to the wing for Peta.

Now something bugs me about his name, Peta is Maori? So its pronounced Pet-A, not Peter like all the commetators are calling him? I keep wondering who this Peter guy is.

It is a swamp. They might have improved it but it cannot be as good as Mount Smart.

There’s only been one ground with decent drainage in NZ, Carlaw Park. Am I right?

Kevy....believes it....watch his take on Oates regathering the ball for the first no try (not) " I think he does (regather) to be fair....( like fuck he did...he was rolling that thing like a bowls player)....to be fair Kevy admits his wistful fantasy was well off....he sounds like a fan calling a game...

The Broncos had run down Canberra....and we kept being reminded that they can score a bunch of trys in quick succesion.
Parker proabably didnt believe it lol.

Haha.... Carlaw Park didn't even need a good bit of rain to flood - even a King Tide was enough to push up the water table and turn it into a swamp.

What was everyone's opinion on the hiku sin bin too?
Looked for all money like isaako was gonna pick that up but ended up catching it on the boot- I would've gone to tackle him in that scenario too- even looked like hiku tried to pull out when he realized he didn't catch it.
It was a penalty but a professional foul?
Thought he might've been a bit hard done by there (not that it mattered).
I mate of mine who is a Sea Eagles supporter thought neither Warriors player should have been sent off, and he hates the Warriors and Pita Hiku so that probably tells you all you need to know.

Kind of like Jazz's (I could have the player wrong) obvious knee to the throat on Mcfuckstick? when he was getting up....

Or Boyd firing an elbow round the corner into Johnson after a tackle or Tevaga wrapping his arm round McCucpunch’s face in the melee, pet hate in union at the moment is fans having massive whinges over every bit of foul play, ruins the contest when every bit of marginal dirty play has to be pulled up. Let the boys grub it up (within reason)

Jessica Yates (?) The Fox presenter kept referring to it as a spiteful contest.
In the pregame she described Warrior Broncos clashes that way and at half time she proved correct.
Her angle was the rivalry.
That stuffs good for sport. Who doesn't enjoy Manly and Melbourne getting at it.

Game one for the Warriors was personal (THEE Game #1 1995 sadly we lost) and it all started from there.

I dont think Broncos fans nor players appreciate what it was like losing to them for six years straight....then Campion hits Webke and that one punch resounds through history and the Warriors decide NO MORE SHIT.

The Next time punches are thrown maniacs like Beatham and Gutenbiel start a big bloody brawl. The Broncs and Storm seem to be the only clubs that bring it out in us...and it's to do with the history in both cases.

The Broncs tried to unsettle Johnson yesterday starting with the forearm to the face by Milford.

I was surprised of all the players that Blair of all our grubs didnt get into it ( he cast a strange figure smiling and laughing on his haunches before kick off...I'm home again).

Spiteful games are good games.

Thought the Broncos were absolutely terrible, they barely fired a shot in the 80 minutes.

Awesome to get the win but we won't have an opposition hand it to us on a plate like that very often.

Im the same as you and fairly solid and there is no way id pick a fight with any of them. Mind you I dont pick fights. I think Shaun Johnson would be the only one id not crap myself in the ring with haha. But yeah Kata is just a ball of muscle, that guy is ripped and a powerhouse, so glad hes back. They just werent using him right. They would try on the 4th 40metres out. Ok he does a nice hit up. But him Passi, Ken, Harris maybe Papali'i are the go to guys for a short ball 8metres out from the line, they just carry defenders that far and know how to turn when over the try line. And of course Fusitua but hes the flying wing specialist. I think when Afoa is back he could be taught how to get the ball down with 3-4 defenders across the line.

Still think we need some more set plays with players in motion and confusing reverse angles. Like if johnson does his holding the ball out in front and looks like hes passing to XYZ, but instead passes it to one of our guys steaming onto the ball out the back of his had (no look flick pass) on the reverse, I cant see any team stopping that with the hole it would create, everybody on Johnson and the guy to the left they think is being passed to. I can just see Passi scoring like that. Johnson has those Magic ball playing skills to pull that play off, and if they practiced it over and over to ensure quality control, there wouldnt be any drop balls.

How good is it we no longer consistently drop the ball on the second hit up after scoring a try on our 40m line. That use to kill us. Whoever is in charge of those fine motor skills while the players are put under fatigue is a master stroke.

Our completions were better last year, but lets be honest, if you are trying to score tries your possession always takes a hit, we missed 2-3 tries in reality against the Broncs and that lowers our completion, but I dont think you can blindly read into completions. Yes some games like the Storm game we didnt complete too well etc and was a loss, but games like the Broncs where our completion wasnt supurb, was because we were blitzing them, and somebody will drop the ball at some stage. No biggy as long as the tries come and the drop ball are in their 30.

I agree to a point. But they did have a number of attempts in our 20 zone and back to back sets and we just held them out or they messed up, ie Oates dropping it after Roger Tuivasa-Sheck smashed his rib cage, and Boyds no try after somebody on their team did a Hiku and ran into Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. But we also held them off our try line a fair few times.

But I think the real test for what you are saying is this weekend. Im amped for it. I want flappn revenge. I want them to show the storm just had one of those nights where everything goes there way. And looking at them at home, we were only beaten by 2 points in the second half. I think we can take them. If we gang tackle like we did against the broncos and control the pace of the game but dont push the ref beyond his limits, then we should defend well without all those penalties for holding players down etc. Also we were disciplined in our 10m, another pet peave of the refs.

Will be an epic battle. Do we have any returning injured players?

as long as the ref doesnt go all wall eyed on us and lets things get worked out on the pitch. However, you know one day someone is gonna get hurt and then its gonna drop on them bad.

What about the game where the players ended up in with the cheerleaders.
I think that was a cowboys 2000.

Andrew Voss: The brawl that cost North Queensland Cowboys and Auckland Warriors 25,000 and hurt a cheerleader
The year is 2000 when the Cowboys-Warriors clash in Townsville descended into mayhem.

In a match that would see four players cited for high tackles, things got way out of hand with a brawl that spilled over the sideline.

Unfortunately a cheerleader was hurt in the melee. Another four players were charged over the fight, and each club fined $25,000 for the conduct of their teams.
For the record, the Auckland Warriors won the game 18-12.
