I think the pocket ref might have had some impact.

TBF, I think Perenara has been pretty good in the games we've had with him this year. Maybe not so much in previous years.
Agree - I may be biased but I think he gives us a lot of close calls and sometimes he seems like he evens it out a bit by giving the opposition some as pay back in some other games???

This was always going to be a tough gig. NQLD at home is a big ask. Just look at our record over there. Defence won us that game. Our away record is staggering after the last few years as is our ladder position.

We are a work in progress and this year is a bonus. As long as we put in every week I'm happy. Thought Shaun Johnson had an exceptional game. Very professional and his long game got us out of the crap a few times.
Agree - and he ran it up the guts at least x2 to help out the forwards - I am shocked and so bloody happy, he took a couple for the team, he's really starting to show his character and maturity - wicked aye lol

I agree. I believe Perenara is as unbiased as there is available. He may make a few errors (as they all do) but I don't believe that he's incompetent and I do believe he is not swayed by the crowd or by favourites.

Consequently, we seem to benefit due to this neutrality overall.

The refereeing crackdown is a good thing to me, as it takes away some flexibility around the favorites and has certainly pulled in the Storm to some extent. I've noticed several more calls going against NRL leading referee Cameron Smith this year. Storm still get away with murder in their wrestling and the time allowed tho.

I just wish that there were penalties to be dished out for repeat and obvious penalty 'milkers'….

pulu is new enough that he should have to play some ISP first.

Yeah bro I agree. Nobody should be automatic return unless they are:

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
Fusitua
Green
Shaun Johnson
Bully
Tohu Harris.

Haha I just named almost half the team. Such a solid argument.

Really it's a thing of don't fix it if it ain't broke. But if it's broke, fix it and change the old parts and send them to the Tigers and ESL.

Perenara has always been against the Warriors, some of his calls in that game against us were borderline cheating.

Don't know if he bears a grudge against the club or is just over compensating in not appearing biased.

My concern in that 2nd half was us having zero line speed and just sitting there giving them 80 easy metres and momentum every set.

The 2 real bad calls - the Beale and Green "knock on's" we're both made by the pocket referee not Perenara.

While I do buy somewhat into an unconscious bias towards home teams with home crowds in all sports, I put it more down to incompetence and referee's losing a 'feel' for the game. The standard isn't great but generally it's across the board.

You guys should read the Cowboys forum and Facebook comments. Basically saying the exact opposite in that Perenara is a former Warrior and always gives us the rub of the green lol. I use to frequent a few forums and the one common thing they all have in common is all fans think the refs have it in for their team...

I used to think the refs were against the Warriors until I attended a game as an away supporter and saw the bullshit the home team thought should/shouldn’t be a penalty- was a massive eye opener

Haha love that first comment, so all refs are to be neutral and born in England? Because all bar 1 are from Australia. Beales "error" was far more important than anything they mention.

It's easy to blame the ref, but the Cows lost at home by more than a try, to a team with 40% possession. That's embarrassing, considering the talent they have.

Cows have had the easiest ride by the media this year, obviously because of JT's final season. These guys should be getting Manly/Eels like treatment, without the excuses because of their roster. Paul Green signed a massive new 3 year deal also.

It’s a bit odd, I saw an interview this week with Green and they seem to love him and are going soft as shit on him.

He’s like Nathan Brown. Those blokes will never be criticised hard by the media. Brown continually trots out the Pearce excuse, if other coaches did that they’d be all over them like paper on shit

The messed up big time by not keeping Ponga.

Sounds like Holmes will go there next year.

A common theme of unconscious bias is the minnow sides getting screwed for lack of Stars and an aversion by Officials to officiate over an 'upset'.

You see it all the time in the NRL., you have bugger all chance of 50/50s if you don't have form coming into games and you don't have a big name in your side arguing the point.

If you doubt that, why did it take so long to see Cameron Smith marched and why was such a big deal made of it ?

Rugby League world cups are the worst, any second tier nation is screwed versus a tier one side.

I always use the example of Tonga (because they came very close to defeating NZ in a world cup until they suffered a string of unfortunate unintentional erroneous calls against them).

Skip forward to last year and you have a Tongan side stacked with stars and with an expectation that they will be competitive...fair reffing by in large...the rest is history.

Moral of the story : The Warriors need to play extra hard at the start of seasons and ensure they have the appearance of being entitled to be competitive in games.
