We might actually be competitive if we can eradicate the 15 minutes we concede 3 tries every game.
I've wanted Foran at the Warriors more than any other player since 2011 and tonight (early days I know) he showed why. Plays direct and others follow, combines well with
Shaun Johnson and there will be space created for others. Talked with the team at every breakdown and you can tell how much the rest of the team respect him. Would love to have him signed on and captain in 2018 myself.
Looking forward to sending the Hoff off to retirement next year, he has been a defensive liability due to tired old legs that can't quite move quick enough to cover. It has been hurting us for the last 12 months now.
Kata needs a week in reserve grade, if for nothing else than to give someone else one all or nothing chance to play for his spot and also to give him a break.
Kata needs a break? He's been a Kiwi for a whole month and a bit and he needs a break at his age? So what does Mannering need, a year's sabbatical? Until anyone reaches half of Simon's consecutive game record I can't sympathise I'm afraid. These young fullas need concrete pills. Not rests. They've been resting for the past 3 seasons!
I agree with the rest though. We've got the framework for a good side. Foran on the left,
Shaun Johnson on the right looks mouth-watering.
Shaun Johnson looks like he is unburdened. Like he feels free. And
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck' lightning speed and pass to the wing could be a phenomenal weapon if we get a decent winger to keep up with him. Even Hoffman looks dangerous running on to a Foran pass. It's like Hoffman's found someone he can regularly play off. It was akin to a Storm move with Proctor or
Harris. And I've noticed he's been trying it since he came to the club. I can only remember it working one other time.
My worry tonight is that the Tits were well short of troops, and we just managed to finish it. We lacked a ruthless edge which Foran can bring. Next week I'd play
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad on the right wing and Manu on the left if he is available. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, I reckon this team is made to attack, not to hesitate and wait to defend. We are not going to improve our defence enough to win games that way. We need to ride this new confidence Foran brings. It's mostly psychological but lets ride it. I think the number one thing the guys need atm is more confidence, because I reckon they've been abandoning the gameplan because of lack of confidence in their processes, rather than looking at why the process didn't work. I.e. what they themselves did wrong in execution.
Now they'll believe again in their systems and think that Foran is the one that made it work, when really it was just that they needed to have faith in the gameplan and play as a team. Our chase was way better and look-we won. Sometimes you can feel like you're miles off the pace when all you really need to do is tweak something you're not aware of.
I reckon Manu and Lolo on the left edge. Give it a go. I bet Manu will lift. They will gain momentum from being allowed to freely attack each week and the little things will start to come right by themselves I reckon. I'm feeling a bit like 2011. Like we're going to gel at some point and become unstoppable.
I still think Kata,
Maumalo and Lolohea have inadequacies, as well as
Lisone and Vete and Gubb. But I think the spine has the right chemistry from what I've seen, to make the weaker players grow up in the space of a season simply by creating momentum and conifidence. And I'm not blown away by today's effort-Foran was rusty IMO. But I saw little things which indicated how important this was to the team and their morale.
