Does Vete have a family event to goto this week as well now?

My bad. Sorry. Substitute Albert Vete for Sam Lisone and I still stand by what I said.

As for the work place. What about long haul fishermen. Do they jump ship half way through the voyage to got to a wedding? There's lots of unusual jobs out there that demand an unusual lifestyle..

Yep. Weird jobs that require people to commit 100% to being at one place and one place only for an extended period. Rugby league ain't one of 'em.

Would we even be discussing this if the Warriors were Top 8? Methinks not.

Look, my basic view on this is: If you think the absence of a forward, the type of player who we've got a surplus of, for one freaking game, is going to screw our season up then you must be A: massively over-rating Sam Lisone and/or B: Don't rate any other of our forwards.

I understand everyone's pissed off that the club we spend our money and/or time on hasn't made the finals since 2011 and why the fuck is that? But I don't believe something as frankly trivial and nothing (in sporting terms) as attending a family wedding is a sign that a player doesn't care and therefore he should be punted.

If I'm a Warriors player and I find out I've got a significant family occasion coming up - wedding - I'm fronting SK and telling him - as soon as I know the date, which, of course, Sam would have done a while ago so this is nothing new - "I won't be available that weekend, it's a family wedding. I'll be back Monday as per usual. Yes, I know the rules about drinking alcohol and so on, Mooks, I won't let you down."

If Mooks throws a shit-fit, I'm going over his head to talk to Jim Doyle. If he throws a shit-fit, well, looks like I'm going to the wedding anyway, accepting any fines and whatever else comes my way and calling my manager and asking him to find me another club.

Now, if Sam does break rules about alcohol consumption, etc that's on him and maybe that's a problem not caused by his sister's wedding but highlighted by it...

I agree sort of...it's nonsensical if had a 9-5 job.....

but he's a professional footballer contracted to play football....I guess at the end of the year the technically have 2 months off.

I know it's not in the same league, but as some mention before, could you see Smith, Slater or Thurston or any other elite player doing this. Nope.

I understand family comes first etc, I guess 99.99% of all posters on here would agree with that, but this I think to me points out why this club is flakey or has "bro" culture. This can all harp back to Watson vs Ali when asked what his priorities are and Watson not liking the response.

What would people say if he skipped out playing in the Grand Final and was one of our better players? Family first, yeah, nah....

and I would agree to having time off for a death or birth, they are truly more important than a football game. But not a wedding....

Exactly. HE is the professional footballer. It has nothing to do with the sister, so people saying that she should plan her own wedding around her brother's job is ridiculous.

Whether Sam should attend or not is a different argument.

I would be curious to know what would have happened if the wedding and game were both in Auckland on the same day. There's often been stories about players rushing off the field to get to a wedding or miss the wedding and rush to make the reception etc, but they're generally Sydney based players who even for away games are likely to still be in Sydney. Not that it adds anything to the current debate, just a curious random thought late at night.

Sure, and to boot why not pick the Perth weekend as well. Great planning...just saying like.

Ha!

what you're really trying to say is Mt W its all your fault!

I'm just jealous. Bam Kisone is going to a feast, will eat, will drink, dance, sing and all that other good stuff they do at weddings while his team goes to war.

Its good to be Bam. Living the gangsta paradise.

Well at least he's managed to sign a lucrative third party sponsor out of it.

He's gonna look pretty gangsta in the ads.

I was just asking the question.

"Wood and his family made sure the [sisters] wedding date fell outside the latest international window, which the Nations Cup was originally scheduled to be played in, when the nuptials were being locked it more than a year ago. But when the dates of the tournament were later changed, it meant the final fell on the same day of the wedding." [This one I can accept.]

"I am a Rush fan and I am not disappointed nor am I angry. Russ made a choice and put a personal commitment ahead of a minor league football game. I admire that. As for missing time, I bet about 98.5 percent of you out there have taken time off from work for personal reasons." [Someone like John Palavi missing a NSWarriors game]

“Ravindra Jadeja is not going to play today’s match and has not come to Mumbai with the team as he is getting married tomorrow,” sources in Gujarat Lions team have confirmed. [This Comment Has Been Self Moderated]

"My brother early in the year decided to get married and I was best man at his wedding, and unfortunately I wasn't able to play in the grand final," the 83-year-old told 774 ABC Melbourne's Raf Epstein. "I put myself up as unavailable because of my brother's wedding." [They won anyway so he wasn't all that important]

Paul (27) was marrying his partner Laura Crawford on the same day that his team-mates suffered a narrow defeat. But he responded just days later by scoring the goal that sent the north Belfast side towards Danske Bank Premiership glory. [If we were on top of the table and a fringe player took a day off you could say the team has earned it.]

That’s why when Mississippi State (25-14, 10-5 SEC) hosts last-place Alabama (15-22, 2-13) in a three-game series starting Thursday, Gridley won’t be on the field Saturday for the finale. [Like I say, if this happens are people going to go ballistic or be just as considerate of the players as they are with Lisone and his sisters weeding?]

So that's 7 instances in all of sport. The percentage is looking practically like zero. Probably 0.00001% of games missed due to weddings.

Has Sam Lisone earned his game off? I don't think so.

so Sam isn't the first player to miss a game for a wedding. You are wrong. it is not unprecedented - the player missing a game for a wedding and you being wrong. Sam obviously has earned it as he is going. And there are more and than 7. That's all I could be bothered putting links in for from the first page of the basic search. But you go on ahead and jump to an unsubstantiated conclusion - again. Not unprecedented.

how about the guy that missed the grand final for his brothers wedding. Now that's sacrifice. Maybe that's what's wrong with a lot of people these days. Don't know what family means, don't know what sacrifice is, don't know what the real priorities in life are.

3 am on the drugs and then late for the team meeting the next day? Obviously discipline isn't one of the real priorities in pro sports.

We're a party club everybody. Just accept it and move on.

and then the obligatory complete change of tangent when found wanting. I just hope they don't release the tapes.

NRL.com predicts: Manly are arguably the form team in the competition right now and show no signs of slowing down. The Sea Eagles would be favourites regardless of where this match was being played, but the fact that it's happening in Perth, where the Warriors have never won a match, means Manly are commanding front-runners from the get-go. Expect the Warriors to have a strong first half but fade away late. Sea Eagles by 10.

My son's team the Sea Eagles and of course he is looking very confident/smug

Come on Footy Gods! I pray to you and please hear my plea... that we can prove the doomsayers wrong and make some totally well overdue HISTORY tonight!

I'm pretty sure that's been the underlying theme of all my posts on this topic, that this club isn't serious about winning this comp...

I was asking a question in a way that would get a response. And you gave me the response I was looking for. Thanks.
