Solomone Kata 2016 1

NZWF Official thread for the 2017 Round 17 Warriors team list and discussion...

The official team list will be posted as soon as it becomes available...

Last year sat in the pouring rain. 80% chance of rain for Sat aswell, really need Foz to be named for a 2 pronged kicking attack.

Foran named at 5/8, Hingano in the 14, Roach in for Luke and Lisone dropped out all together??

Warriors five-eighth Kieran Foran has been named to make his return from injury, while Nathaniel Roache will replace Issac Luke at hooker for the New Zealand outfit's clash with Manly at nib Stadium in Perth.

Luke dislocated his shoulder in the Warriors 21-14 win over the Bulldogs and is expected to be out for a few matches, meaning young star Roache moves into the starting rake position.

Ata Hingano moves back to the bench in a utility role, while Bunty Afoa replaces Samuel Lisone on the bench.

Warriors team

1 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (c)
2 Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
3 Blake Ayshford
4 David Fusitua
5 Ken Maumalo
6 Kieran Foran
7 Shaun Johnson
8 Jacob Lillyman
9 Nathaniel Roache
10 Ben Matulino
11 Bodene Thompson
12 Ryan Hoffman
13 Simon Mannering

Interchange:

14 Ata Hingano
15 Bunty Afoa
16 Albert Vete
17 James Gavet
18 Manu Vatuvei
20 Liligiifo Sao
21 Isaiah Papali'i
22 Mason Lino

Glad to see Maumalo ahead of Manu in the pecking order. Both similar style and confidence players, but Ken is safer and definitely wants it more.

Also Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad ahead too...

Bench looks a little weak though...

Pretty good side... about the best we could name given circumstances. Definitely a bit gutted Sammy isn't playing - the energy that he and James brought in tandem off the bench was critical against the Dogs. Bunty is good replacement though.

Must be a pretty serious family commitment
Sisters wedding so Ive been told. Kata still isnt back from Tonga. Club are going to give him as long as he needs. Foran training well but still 50/50 like last week. Hope no one who goes is expecting a player meet up after. They will be flying straight out with a few of the boys jumping over to Bali for a few days during their bye week...

You'd have to think Roache either playing 80. Or Bodene may give him a spell with Afoa coming onto right edge. Would be surprised to see Ata at rake, he must be only there for Foran??

A well earned holiday

They already get an extra months holiday in September

Roach will need spells.

Thompson to hooker ?

I see our pack struggling in this one unfortunately, without Luke.

Hope I'm wrong....but Roach hasn't been given the tools to start and play the Lions share, his fitness sitting on that bench a lot will require that he plays smart.

I have this nagging doubt that we should fairly expect his running game ( his strength) to be there.....ergo our pack will not Roll on.

Thankfully it looks like Forans kicking game will be there making up somewhat for Luke as a kicking option from last week.

Still.....it is doable if every forward bar Gavet, Lillyman, and Mannering start looking like the players we know they are ( looking at you Mutts, Hoff, Thompson, + Vete).

Putting the Cart before the horse calling on the Pigs to help the young hooker out....it is what it is.

Just on Manu....

He's been included on the 4 man bench for 1st grade but not included in the ISP cup squad, both teams play on Saturday (ISP in Sydney)....

Could we see both Vatuvei and Ken on the wings?

A conservative approach from the Warriors won't see us get close to the Sea Eagles - they are running hot at the moment. High risk could end in disaster however it might be what we need in this one to be any chance; on that basis I would play Manu for sure (realising I will be in the minority here).
