Last thing I'd say is this: lovely Sunday afternoon, nothing else on (bar Ellerslie), first game of the season, and crowd is 13,700 odd. It's not bad, but it's not great either in the circumstances. Makes it kind of a make or break season, financially: perform, and the crowds will turn out (Mt Smart has more than its fair share of fair weather fans); don't perform, and it could get ugly

I'm hoping there's going to be a review as to how in the hell a ref can send a play up to the bunker and ask to check the onside from a kick, only to have the bunker ignore that instruction? I know there were communication problems, but they check the onsides for every damned kick, whether asked to or not. But not this time, for some obscure reason, try to Newcastle.

I was at the game and had the use of Sports Ears

I believe I heard Ash Klein in the Bunker say that they had cleared the offside [even though that was not shown on the big screen] even before anything came up on screen

My opinion watching live was it was offside

I would like to see a screen shoot where a line is drawn across the field in the same manner as they do in the A-League and also NFL so that it was definitive whether or not a player was offside

I have no faith in the touchies calling offside

The bald headed badger on Sunday called a Newcastle kick to touch from a penalty approx. 5 metres further down field than it actually was as the ball never passed the point where I was sitting [it held up in the wind] and he put his flag up around 5 metres further on - it caused hilarity in the section of the stand adjacent to where it actually went out.

Mmmm.... Ken's played 19 NRL games and scored two tries. Manu had scored 11 during his first 19 games. Doesn't seem like "an exact replacement" to me.

Anyone else think that the Roger Tuivasa-Sheck pass to "prop on the wing" looked like it travelled forward but not out of the hands? I wouldn't complain too much as ball did travel forward, but technically i thought it was ok

And the time one of the knights ran into one of his own players in front of him, putting him accidentally offside, and the player offside was also preventing a tackler getting to the player with the ball but the ref called play on.

I heard the bunker say he was onside right at the start of the clip. That must have been from one of their muppets making the call off screen. Was it Monty Betham on the sideline who said he was a metre in front, and on the replay he must be Usain Bolt to have been onside.

I'm not convinced this team has improved or changed much (or enough):

- sluggish start with unforced errors and poor ball security

- sloppy defence allowing soft tries

- "razzle dazzle" creating tries rather than consistent and sustained effort

I'm repeating what has mainly been said but offering my two cents worth.

Well I'll start on a positive - it was bloody good to have footie back, and it was great to be starting at home (how epic is that big screen too, makes a huge difference!).

Maumalo - (as most others have pointed out) isnt a winger, had a shocker, is more of a liability than Manu (I believe Manu has much more upside than Ken), and really shouldn't play another game at wing for us. His push in the head was the final straw for me, it just shows a complete lack of composure especially when you should be trying everything to help your team get on the front foot from the mistakes he made.

Ata - Exciting talent. He plays the game and not the man in in front of him. Has a really mature view and great footballing brain for a guy so young. Will only get better and better.

Hoff - I thought Hoff had one of his best games in Warriors colours. Thought he had a point to prove and felt that he stepped up once Mannering went off.

Vete is all effort and I do love his attitude, but not sure if he will be able to be that prop we are after to get on the front foot.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck - Warriors best ever buy? Could easily turn into it. Wouldnt be surprised if he picked up the Dally M if we made a big charge at the finals, he is just that good.

Overall it was obviously an ugly win, but I can live with that for a few reasons. We went backwards when our two senior players in Mannering and Luke went off as those guys really control our middle. Without them it is always going to be tough, especially with such a young group of guys around them. I also think the Knights wont be as bad as they were last year, and am doubting they will get the spoon to be fair. Sure we werent top 4 potential yesterday, but whoever thinks that a change in coach is going to bring instant change and turn us from a bottom 8 team into a top 8 team overnight is kidding themselves. There is so much that is ingrained and will be a gradual process to fix. I think Kearney realises that himself to be honest. Either way I will take a win anyday! Praying that Luke and Mannering are good to go for Friday and that Manu gets the nod over Ken. Looking forward to it already.

Well apparently it's Kata's fault our left wingers aren't scoring tries, so i guess we can't blame Ken.

Great to see the maturity of posts this year. No one here is falling for anything. After 6 years of it who would right? It's obvious some players especially our forwards have either peaked athletically and or skills wise and others are on the decline. I don't know how we won that game with the forward pack we have.

I feel like we can't get much more out of the playing group we have this year. I've seen the performance they put on Sunday all of last year with mostly the same players which tells me not much has changed.

Foran is the only caveat that could potentially turn this team around and it wouldn't just be his play it would hopefully bring a mental toughness he developed at manly and I'm praying it rubs off on the rest of the team.

Rugby leagues a simple game and we knew awhile ago that some players just can't get any better and the forwards is and will still be the area lacking before this team can be a real threat.

And you're also forgetting that Manu played of the bench for four of those games so he's spent less time on the paddock to score over five times as many tries.

Oh, and if it is Kata's fault, why has Manu scored 8 tries playing outside him for 17 games while Ken has only scored two tries partnering with Kata during 16 games?

For the first time since they ran out for their very first game back in 95 i wasnt watching the game live. Nor have i seen a replay or am i likely to do so. (I gave up my foxtell and this is Melbourne so AFL rules and sometimes you get a game on 9, I managed to see the Bunnies and Eels games).
Funny enough i looked at the poll above and answered yes to option number 1. Hell Yes!
For years ive been saying i dont care if they win well or win dirty, i just want wins on the board. The comp isnt about looking pretty its about results and for the first time since 09 they start in a positive position. Hell Yes!
I didnt see the plays that are bringing people down so i wont comment on any player, or any play.
I will say that at least we're not the Rabbitos who have just lost one of their two big investments for the season. And got beaten badly as well. I bet they would have taken a dirty win if they coulda. So again Hell Yes!

It was nice to win....2 points is 2 points.

I saw a lot of positives and can see a difference SK is making, however we still have the same dumb players....Tui L should go, he's like a 20/20 specialist...good in that format but not able to step up to Test level. Can run, but can't tackle, catch a high ball or dive on a ball one when putting one's body on the line.

Good to see Hoffman absolutely give Ken M a spray after he started the melee, Ken to me is like a bully at school, the biggest picks on the smallest but when someone steps in and challenges him, crumbles like a deck of cards....

We lost our way a bit bit when Luke and Mannering left the field, I actually thought Bodene did all right as a stand in hooker. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck takes too many hit ups, how many did Tui take?


At the end of the round, I'd say there are teams in worse positions than we are.
