I’m not sure what you guys want from the coach at this point. I read a lot of things about player accountability and stepping up to drop our big names so they get a kick up the ass and come back a better player.
In what world does that logic work?
I’ve heard mentions of drop “
Johnson, Luke, Hoffman, Manu.. etc”… Humour me, we get rid of these guys for a week, who's left?
If what everyone is saying about the players not playing for the coach, then they sure as hell won’t be after being dropped. Imagine if
Johnson got dropped, mentally he would be going "this coach is off his fkn head, this team single handedly relies on me to have any chance of winning games". He would NOT come back a better player. I recall a game a couple of years ago where Maloney and
Johnson were dropped to the bench and it did absolutely nothing in terms of development. I think they brought in Mateo/Godinet as the combination, memory is a bit dusty.
Cappy is in no position to drop these big name players. If he drops the players, we have players fill in who are not first grade level. If he doesn’t drop the players, he gets criticised about not making big decisions by dropping his big name players.
He’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. Do I admit he’s not the greatest coach going around? Yes. Do I think getting a new coach mid-season is going to help us? HELL NO!
I could rant for hours about how dropping our big name players is not logical, but 90% of the forum posters here just don’t get it. The solution of sending out an ISP team in first grade to teach the big name players a lesson, is not the solution. I promise you, when the team gets wrecked (and they will), the next week when
Johnson and co are brought back in and then they lead with the mentality "ha ha ha good one cappy, that’ll never happen again". If anything, it would make them more comfortable knowing that the team can't perform without them, so their position is safe.
Based on, and averaging, all of everyone's suggestions, your first grade team would look like this against the Dragons
1. Wells
2. Fusitua
3. Ayshford
4. Allwood
5.
Maumalo
6. Hingano
7. Lino
8. Lillyman
9.
Tevaga
10. Matulino
11. Bodene
12. Lane
13. Lautiti
This team would get WRECKED.
Now, I can't come here and write off suggestions that other forum members are posting without my own possible solution. To be honest, I don't have one and I suspect it's because there isn't a simple one. The Warriors are not a club that people want to play for, you either play for us because you're in Auckland, or because it's the final year of your contract and we're throwing the big bucks at you. Also a select few, you can't even make first grade for any other side (Wright).
The media and our players have destroyed us as a club. It will be close to impossible to get to a point where people want to be a Warrior. Most kids in NZ see this and think, I wanna be an All Black.
To the day this club folds, I will be a full Warriors supporter. When these guys lose, it literally ruins my weekend. When they win, I can't even express the Joy it brings to me.
What we need to do is go day by day with this team with the same coach for the rest of the year. We can make the top 8, I have no doubt. Finals footy is a different game, and admittedly the boys click into gear when it comes finals time. Our goal for the season should be, just come 7th or 8th. If we can do that, the mentality changes. It goes from them not having a great attitude and knowing their position is safe, to "Hey, if we string together 4 wins, we win a premiership and that ring would look really cool on my instagram" (I saw a video of Koni, Bodene and
Jazz dancing in a food court looking like idiots and thought to myself you spastics how about you win some games before you do stupid shit like that).
Like I said, I could go on for hours typing ... /rant over.
