Care to explain how to target Reynolds and the big Rabbitohs pack? It is easy to say but what do you actually do to make it happen?
We were all over them until Bodene dropped the ball on the first hit up after the try. Then SOME players dropped their lip. So it wasn't so much the tactics but the lack of Plan B to tell the boys to expect it and don't give up. Cappy has blamed the players, but what is he there for?

I think so.

He hinted as much when over here a month or so earlier on a golf tournament.

Probably too late now as the word is he's agreed to terms at St George.
i swear someone told me he was on tv and said he wants to get back into coaching but it has to be with the right club and set up. he may of also denied/said he didnt want to go to the dragons. wouldd you want to go to the dragons? they seem like a huge mess right now. the fans want blood and want doust out..... similiar to scurrah

Offensive tackling would have been a good start. The Burgess boys don't like getting hit around the midsection and ball, yet we seemed content to try and tackle them around the barrels they call chest/shoulders. Much like the Cleary era (and every era since) our tackling involves holding up a player and waiting for reinforcements or wrestling them to the ground. Their completion rate was 100% in the first half. At some point one of our forwards had to take the risk and try driving right into the gut to try and force an error.

That's a big issue for mine. When things are going against us we too often sit back and wait for the tide to change. While that's not always the worst option, there are times where you have to try and force the issue to make those swings happen. Our players don't seem to be able to identify those moments.

As for Reynolds, proper wingers, decent kick pressure, and a better performance in the middle is your best bet of limiting him. He's a class player and it guarantees nothing, but there are things we could have done to give ourselves a better chance.

We got dominated last night, no hiding from that, but at the same time, the majority of the Rabbitohs tries didn't really come off the back of that domination. Bodene dropping the ball, Lolohea throwing a horrid intercept to give them possesion and momentum (which I think led to a penalty), Reynolds kicking very early and Maumalo having no chance of footing it with Burgess, Shaun Johnson's poor kick for the Hunt try etc. Like I said, we got dominated for sure, but our own unforced errors were our downfall last night.

6 Again

If only the problem was the coach that'd be an easy fix, the lack of effort simple errors and the inability to match the energy of the opposition is what cost us. I would've thought several golden point games would be enough for any side to realize you've gotta bring it every week, time for another closed door honesty session before the cows.

Only five? What are you complaining about? Think of us poor old bastards who have followed them since 1995
I meant the 5 years since we last appeared in the finals.

I too have suffered for much longer:grumpy:

i dont think many have mentioned how one sided our attack was. i only watched the first half but every last tackle option and set play went to shauns side. i dont think leuleuai touched the ball in the first half or even setup a play on his side. not sure why the hookers insisted on going to Shaun Johnson's side for.

So disappointed! Few things went against us, And the boys dropped there load.

I'm over waiting for Shaun Johnson to do shit. Obviously it doesn't all fall on him. But he's our wonder boy. Has all the ability in the world. Can cut any defense to shreds at will? Obviously his mental application needs addressing.

Lolo was shocking. He looks scared, In dee and attack! Won't take a high ball, won't dive on balls. His confidence is shot.
Cappy's job is to instil confidence into his players. Inspire them! Obviously not a people's person. I don't totally blame Cappy. But i do think he is out of his depth.

Lillyman is a good honest player. But, He lacks any real penetration in attack. And fack all ompth on dee. Ben was weak, Falling off tackles , Simon wasn't his usual strong Defensive self either..

The no look pass to Hoffman via Shaun Johnson/Looloo Eyes I've seen enough of. So predictable!

Maumalo could be anything.....Except a winger lol. Lazy, just lazy!

I really did enjoy seeing Manu find a bit of his old form. Yes, as slow as a turtle to turn. But his power running and a bit of his speed is still there. That was pleasing to see.

Vete is now our kingpin forward. Runs hard, Carries players. And hits even harder! I am excited about him and Sipley next year.
Also, Gubby. He may not be flashy. But hes a big body. That can hit as hard as anyone and has the odd pass from out the ass *Where'd that come from* offload.

We seem to lose our bundle against bigger more aggressive forward packs. With the exception of Vete. Most of the pack gets the drops bolo's.

Kata looked powerful when he had the ball. He hardly got it tho.
Jazz & Nathaniel were awesome. Jazz is a lock, Hate seeing him pass from the ground. Always throws it forward. Therefore prefer him playing lock. Small, but a powerful runner and fearless in dee. Nathaniel looks the goods at hooker.

Not a fan of Lisone. He does give us a few powerful runs....a few! Nothing else really. Very ill disciplined. I'd prefer to start Sipley for the rest of the season.

I get the feeling our players can't handle praise. It goes to their heads and makes them lazy or something....

We looked real good till we got the early lead, and then it was good night nurse.

The crowd must have been mega positive after Kata's try. And then they turned into a reserve grade outfit.

Are these guys too full of themselves?

Might have a point there - they probably need to be told every time they win just how shit they are and no one thinks they can back it up etc etc.

Constantly make them prove themselves.

It's a weird psychological tic in some people's makeup, methinks:
Praise = Don't really care, the hard work's done, dey loves me!, oops! Lose!
Condemnation = Work harder, put in performance, get a win/force the opposition to play real well to win.

Sup42, anyone - are there psychological theories/studies on how praise can actually have a negative impact on performance/desire?

If the "basics" of the fullback position were as simple to master as having a good work ethic there'd be a plethora of quality fullback's running around the competition...Lolohea could run his ass off for the whole game, but if he doesn't have the ability to read the game so he can position himself where he needs to be, or the instincts to defend his line at all costs, no amount of running or effort will make him a good fullback.

Lolohea isn't a fullback and he isn't a half, and iv'e been saying exactly that even before he made first grade, so it's no surprise to me he's being found out, but he is a fantastic winger, he should have been played there from the start and left there for a few seasons at least. The problem i have with McFloppo is he can't see it, he obviously knows everything the coaching manuals can teach him, but he cant seem to read the individual talents of his players and then use that talent where it would be most effective.

Lolohea might be a fantastic winger going forward, but with his lack of urgency, would he be any quicker getting back then Manu and Ken. I recall the times Tui did play on the wing he was slow going back. To me at the weekend Tui looked like a dead man walking

I can deal with a certain amount of unforced errors, after all, it's the Warriors.

But when your team, particularly Lolohea and Maumalo, just don't appear to give a flying fuck about what is unfolding right before them, then they deserve every bit of criticism being thrown at them.

Going off-topic, if the Chooks go on and beat the Cowboys....we will face a very angry fired-up team on Saturday night.

7.30m game Aussie time which is 9.30pm NZ time......so in typical Warriors fashion we should expect the team to land in Townsville around 7pm Friday night! Who needs preparation?

TheFullback

Yesterday's game really showed us our flaws and what we need to do next season and that requires releasing some players that dont make the grade. Leading that list is Maumalo that kid didnt show any heart and desire plus he offers nothing attacking apart from hit ups and defensively? Very poor. I've seen dead people move faster than he did! We should have let him go to the dragons but we got excited over 1 or 2 decent games and a contract till 2018

Play The Ball

It must be possible, after all it must have been done in the previous weeks.
Funny both coaches said that was the Rabbitohs best performance of the season and that had they played like that all year they would be challenging for a title.

With the Cows and Sharks losing again, and Brisbanes poor form until the past week or two, I remember reading an article about Coaches training the crap out of teams about this time out from the finals.

I can't remember the exact detail but think it was something along the line of getting them into peak fitness now with highest level of training now and then lighten the load a week out from finals to let them freshen up.

You have to wonder if that's at play amongst these teams.

Great to be back reading posts again!

Went to the game last night and don't think that Cappy will be too worried. Lolohea, love the guy, but last night, he had nothing between the ears and I question whether he played with heart. He is an instinctive player but was educated by Reynolds all night. Fusitu'a has to go to fullback, with Ayshford and Tui on the wing. Rabbitohs turned momentum into an avalanche and despite some poor unforced errors, every time we had the ball, we always looked to be dominating. We just didn't do it for long enough periods. It was disappointing but I think the boys will bounce back next week. Fusitu'a could be a gem right centre next year with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck at the back.

Too late in the season to blood new players so winger is Tui for me or Allwood. Like the thought of Sipley or Afoa taking Ayshfords bench position.

True - Bennett has used that formula over the years.

Yes, I was a Tui at fullback man (or woman ;)) but was wrong, maybe I just really wanted him off the bench. Agree Fusitua is stronger and more desperate at FB and Blayshford and Tui were strong on the same edge.

If this year's gone at least we will have a somewhat more settled and experienced side heading into next year with this lot.

And for what it's worth I really do believe we have a brilliant roster, I think a decent and able Coach would kill to have this roster, maybe an aggressive forward short but not much else.
