Team Lists

i'm more worried about Shaun Johnson and our kicking game than whether our centres will be ok. Everything flows from controlling possession and position. Cheap turnovers, poor kicks, errors in our own half overplaying our hand. That is what will cost us.

So playing like the Warriors will cost us games...hmmm, that may be a problem.

This game is an interesting one. A scrappy win is what I'm expecting, which will prolong Cappy's tenure. Whether or not that proves to be a good thing, I'm not sure. One thing I know for sure is, we won't come out firing and blow them off the park, if it's a win it'll be scrappy and unconvincing.

An of area of improvement I'd like to see from the Warriors is in their scramble goal line D, Justin Morgan has reportedly taken a much harder approach with the players effort and attitude in defense lately, something to do with a 40 point blowout in their last trial game no doubt. He has his reputation to up hold as one of the best defensive coaches in the league and so the boy's should be on notice right from round 1.

I don't see our go forward being a problem against the Tiger pack in the middle third, particularly with the Beast running off quick Tuivasa-Shek play the balls to get our sets rolling. Shaun Johnson and Luke should enjoy creating plays on the back of our forwards effort and provided we push up in support of the ball carrier as InsideBall mentioned we should be able to out point them in attack so long as we can hold them in defense.

Bit of crystal ball gazing on my behalf but I could see it play out that way in this one. I'm not expecting a complete performance this early in the season, but I am looking for a win and some good signs leading into the season.

Hope the Warriors like the Heat
its going to be 35 degrees tomorrow where they are playing.

The Aussie Players like Lillyman, Robson & Hoffman should come into their own.
Also Shek, & Luke who have done time in Aussie

The Heat drains the energy out of you.
Especially if you are a Big Guy..

I doubt that anyone who has spent January and February this year in Auckland will let the Warriors off with a loss due to the heat.

Lillyman, and probably slightly less so Hoff, have acclimatised to NZ conditions really but add Gavet to the Roger Tuivasa-Sheck / Luke list as well!

We can't keep letting our guys off with the heat excuse.
Making excuses for them isn't gonna help them in any way, they're professionals at the end of the day and have to win regardless, there's not an asterisk at the bottom of the trophy saying "Warriors would have won if they didn't have to play in the heat/past their bedtime/travel"

I'm sure the Tigers don't exactly like playing in the heat either

The thing is, when the Cowboys play us at Mt Smart at night in August, they don't sit around shivering. They all chuck big chunky sumo suit jackets on...

When we head over and play in the heat we can't exactly get naked, down to the undies of course, and hop in the paddling pool at half time now can we.

I agree re the Cowboys but it's been fucking sweltering in Auckland pre-season - no excuses!

But is that going to translate into performance during a sunny day game?

I don't fucking know - all I said it that it's no excuse given the conditions they have been training in plus the fact that the Cowboys can beat us in Auckland in August.

That's my point. A team coming from hot conditioning can come to a cold climate and deliver the goods, but a team coming from a cold climate will always be burning under the sun in the warmer weather...

Cappy has already failed this season by not getting the squad conditioned for hot weather footy IMO... They are going to melt. It's happened too many times before for me to believe otherwise.

And I might be a cu** (good cu** that is), but I'm never a twat...

It's 24c in Sydney currently and feels like 26c according to the internet.

My car said it was 26c in Auckland two hours ago - time difference - and obviously would feel warmer due to humidity.

Are you saying that the Warriors will struggle due to the cold like the Cowboys do?

Maybe but we also don't get concessions for the heat and have to win anyway if we want a shot at the title
