That Roar.com.au article picking us for 9th. I'm not surprised we are picked 9th every year as it always seems we are a chance only to just miss out.:( Mid table is pretty accurate most yeas unfortunately.

So the Tigers are without Brooks and Farah. Hopefully the guys want to make amends for the last outing and break our current losing streak. A win away from home in round 1 would be a good confidence booster.

I would be hesitant to call that an "article". The ramblings were as consistent as the Warriors.

Everything will hinge on our edge defense and effort levels which remains to be seen whether we can achieve on a weekly basis.Talent isn't (and rarely is) the issue.

I just skimmed though the Roar article it to see our predicted finish. It's a bit hard to keep track of as they have that series and had another guy doing predicted finishes. That one had us in the 8.

A lot of their articles can be all over the place; just that the others are behind a paywall and I'm to cheap.;) Or are quiet due to it being the off season. The league articles will pick up next week.

A quiet weekend this weekend and it all gathers pace next week. The team names next week will be interesting as there are usually some rookies, positional changes etc.

That Roar article was abysmal. Some very definitive statements from a person that clearly knew very little of the team.

Shaun Johnson as erratic as Sandow and a player that goes missing and does nothing for months at a time?? Wtf... Okay people on here will get into Shaun Johnson for having a quiet game every now and then, but he is getting pretty consistent as far as I'm concerned. First and foremost the forwards (and outside backs) need to be more consistent at winning the middle for him. He was constantly stuck at the 40m line on the last tackle last year.

Solomone Kata the rock the Warriors have been searching for in the centres?

What a load of bollocks

Warriors can't rely on big name signings for quick fix, says Ben Ikin
1456546565374.jpg

The game-breaking abilities of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Issac Luke won't be enough to fix the Warriors' problems, believes former Kangaroos and Queensland star Ben Ikin.

The two big Warriors signings for the new season, which starts on Thursday when the Eels host the Broncos, will certainly add to the team's attacking capabilities, but Ikin says it's not a part of their game that needed improving.

"While I've got great admiration for the two players, who are both brilliant and most well known for their attacking prowess, I don't think the ability to score points has been an issue for the Warriors in the past," said Ikin, who hosts the NRL 360 show on Sky TV.

"What needs to be embraced there is the ability to get into the grind, not just for 80 minutes of a game, but the entirety of a season.

"The upside to the Warriors has alway been so high, but the drama has been that the gap between their best and worst performances has been far too great.

"For me, the key for the Warriors to be successful, will be getting into the arm wrestle, staying in it and what they do when they haven't got the ball.

"If they can get that right then they have a strong foundation to build from."

Daryl Halligan, who'll be part of Sky's commentary game for Warriors games this season, says hype is something the club has always had to deal with before each season, but the time has come for them to win the Premiership.

"The Cowboys entered the competition in the same year as the Warriors in 1995 and they finally cracked it last year," Halligan said.

"So the Warriors are out on a precipice on their own now. But I don't think they can afford to get off to a poor start, with the weight of expectation.

"The roster is the best they've had over the last five to six years, so there's everything to look forward to."

As for who'll be in this year's grand final, Ikin and Halligan have differing opinions.

"I've gone for a Broncos v Storm final," Ikin said.

"I've got huge respect for Craig Bellamy and that organisation.

"Billy Slater is going to come back fresh and Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith have still got a lot of quality football in them.

"The Cowboys will be thereabouts and I've got them as a top-four side. But there is a bit more upside in the Broncos this year and the Cowboys were a roster ready to win under Paul Green last year.

"But with the improvement I think there will be in a number of the young Broncos' side, I can see them making it."

Ikin predicts the Sharks to be the other team in the top four.

"They're a side that's battle-hardened and potentially got the strike power to go with it," he said.

"I'm a big Andrew Fifita fan, there aren't too many front rowers since Arthur Beetson who've been able to do what he does. He's a big guy, hugely talented and has that X-factor.

"I'm loving the development of Valentine Holmes and Jack Bird, while James Maloney and Chad Townsend will be a formidable halves pairing and of course with Paul Gallen as the middle forward, they're a pretty well-rounded team."

Halligan is going for a Bulldogs v Broncos final, with the Warriors making the top four.

"There are so many factors in this competition and there will be a couple of smokeys," he said.

"Cronulla can be an outside chance, you don't know what's going to happen with the Rabbitohs and Roosters, who've been good for the past few years.

"Manly will be interesting, they've lost a lot of players and will the new players gel?

"But I honestly don't think it would be another all Queensland grand final, I'd definitely bet against that."

Ikin also says a line can be drawn through the Knights, Titans and Tigers.

"They're the only three teams I can't make a case for to be in the top eight," he said.

"I still doubted the Eels, even with Kieran Foran, Beau Scott and Michael Gordon coming across, but the moment they picked up Michael Jennings, I thought 'wow, that's a roster.'

"If Foran plays his best footy this year, they're going to go north in a hurry."

Some of these articles have Sao and then Leuleui on the bench. As we know, both are hurt. So how accurate and informative can these article be?

Not sure where to post this. Does anyone know when the team poster comes out? Is it today? It's quite late.

There was a booklet in today's Herald on Sunday which included an small poster as part of the booklet but I think a proper poster is still to come out.

Like mentioned above a lot of what the media report nowadays would come off fan forums. They may just use it as a tip before trying to get more details from a source within the club affected. As far as the Warriors are concerned a lot of what the media report seem way off probably because we are away from Sydney where a lot of the league media is based. Since I've been on this forum we've been raided by Souths and a few other clubs with 2-3 players definitely out the door to that club. Only for someone here to talk to the player in question and shoot it down.

The media are constantly forgetting about players we have out injured or playing up our under strength we are compared to our opposition etc.

The articles about our chances coming into this season are about as consistent as the Warriors have been over the years. Matty Johns has us sacking the coach every week and then predicting us to come 2nd; not sure who the miracle working coach will be to turn us around and get us to second. Then we're top 4 not making the 8, the big improvers, the two stars we've recruited aren't enough to we have recruited well.

Guys picking the winners of our games the last few years have been hesitant to pick us some weeks even after a big win. Why? Well their the Warriors. This seems to be exaggerated with the predictions this year. To be honest I'm loving the great unknown. We have some great new talent coming in and we are on an 8 game losing streak and for round 1 we are playing a side tipped to not go well away from home. Our round 1 record is crap. So who knows what's going to happen next weekend.

The article poo-poo'd our bench. I think we have a pretty good one. Our forwards on the bench could be Vete, Lisone, Gubb, Gavet, Sio (when he comes back), and Henry could play in the backs if desperate. But I don't understand why some pundits say you don't need a utility player on the bench. If Manu or a back goes down, you're gonna put in a forward? I guess Mannering could go to the centres, but who would cover the halves, or even the wing? With only 8 interchanges, it'll be interesting to see the make-up of the benches in the league.

The great unknown will be the biggest decider for us, as it is for every team every year. Would the Cowboys be anyones pick for top 4 if JT blows his knee out in week one and only be a slim chance of playing any games this season.

With only 8 interchanges, it'll be interesting to see the make-up of the benches in the league.
The benches this week will be interesting as the clubs don't have a chance to follow the leader if someone has success with an all forwards bench or a dummy half and 3 impact forwards etc.

There have been articles saying dummy halves will need to be out there for the full 80 so coaches can conserve an interchange. There has also been talk of needing to replace the dummy half. When the game speeds up it will be natural for more dummy half running so surely some clubs will be going with two dummy halves in their squad.

Things should change throughout the year as clubs asses the impact the interchange and shot clock changes have.

True snake, but instead of looking at 80 minute halves, I'm thinking more of a member of a backline getting injured, forcing a number of players to play out of position, like a forward in a backline. Why not keep an insurance player like a Henry as insurance? Or leuleui?
