6 Again
Sounds a bit complicated for our lot.
Likely to end up an inverted V with half our team offside.

That would be Wayne Bennett? Kiwis and All Stars (had the whole NRL to chose from too...).
Why on earth would a coach who failed with the eels want to get advice from arguably the best coach in the modern era when it came to team selection? Wow, that's just...wow.So what you're saying is Bennett was not only the head coach of the 2008 Kiwi's, but he got to name the team he wanted and select the squad...wow, thats just...wow.![]()
All I know is he hasnt got eyes for Jeremy Smith in that pic. Maybe Mullen...
that explains the skippingAll I know is he hasnt got eyes for Jeremy Smith in that pic. Maybe Mullen...
to be fair, he failed at the Eels after he and Bennett parted ways. A lot less WOW and more.. oh.

Conveniently missed out the All Stars selection....So what you're saying is Bennett was not only the head coach of the 2008 Kiwi's, but he got to name the team he wanted and select the squad...wow, thats just...wow.![]()
So...just for shits and giggles I went back to 2010 to compile some Manu stats for the haters and believers.
Played: 143
tries: 102
Runs: 1829
Run Meters: 18176
Line Breaks: 92
Hit Ups: 1301
Off Loads: 129
Tackles: 694
Missed tackles: 211
Errors: 209
For Averages of per game:
1.46 errors
0.71 tries
12.7 runs
127 meters
0.64 line breaks
9 hit ups
0.9 off loads
4.9 tackles
1.5 missed tackles
1.5 errors.
Let the debate rage!
the obvious stat for me is someone who gets the ball 13 times a game - 1.5 errors/game is too many. Halves usually average 1-2 errors per game on 50ish receives.
His missed tackles obviously isn't great, but the glaring miss in the Manu stats (which has never been recorded), is how many defensive misreads has he made where he gets caught in no man's land? I don't know the answer, but I would suspect >1 every game.
I'm not a hater, just a realist. Manu has advantages to the team, but IMO, he's been a liability on the wing for a lot of his career. There have been times he's been fine (depending on his size/fitness/acceleration). His time out on the flank is coming to an end though. He doesn't have the same force he once had IMO. Problem we've had is - we've had no wingers over the years to replace him with.
I remember a league program years ago when they were comparing the error rates of a half and a winger (I think it was Wendall and Alfie they were talking about). One of the hosts was talking about how he thought it was unacceptable how many errors the winger was making compared to the half when the half was touching the ball so many more times. Another host then said that the half's received number included the times he was at dummy half or just received the ball and past it straight on. He then pointed out that most of the time the winger's errors occurred was during contact (I.e. Contesting a kick or while carrying the ball). When they broke the errors down to a more comparable errors when carrying the ball, the error rates, while still higher for the winger, were a lot closer than any of them had expected.the obvious stat for me is someone who gets the ball 13 times a game - 1.5 errors/game is too many. Halves usually average 1-2 errors per game on 50ish receives.

The best way to put this to bed would probably to post our win:loss ration over the last eleven seasons with Manu either in or out of the team. If its higher with him in the team then he's been good for us, if not he's been a liability.
Conveniently missed out the All Stars selection....
Andrew Johns has said a number of times that Manu is his favourite player, what would he know though? Bloody immortals!
Brett MorrisHappy to do a comparison with whoever you think is a world class winger.
Yip, because all conversations in clubs about who teams are after occur in the media and are known by all the fans.Conveniently? I didn't mention it because it's a ridiculous format, hell I'd pick him to...it's a popularity contest and a one off game that is all about tv ratings, and vatuvai is popular over this side of the tasman...oh and Johns is in the tv business so it's a no brainer to cheer for Manu...however I didn't hear him demanding Newcastle recruit him when his contact was up, in fact I didn't hear anyone anywhere even talking about it.
