How come when Friend made 50 tackles he was targeted because he is ineffective but when Mannering makes 50 tackles its not?

They were both making that many tackles each playing together so where has Friends tackles gone? Is it that they run through Manu and Kata and score so no tackles are made?

We completed 92% in the first half and yet all the tries except simona's were scored in our own 20, that suggests that our middle was letting too many yards up the middle, yes the left gifted them points, but they get less opportunities the harder we make them work in their own half.

I wish I could say you were right because that's an easy fix, but that left was getting beat in the Tigs 30 regularly, the worst reads IMO were the ones down their end, the middle was far more solid than I realised at the time and I moaned about it in the game day thread.

Keep playing Kata and Manu and we're gonna keep getting our asses handed to us. McFadden your pet project Kata is a liability his defence is farkin terrible and his handling's no better. Insane shit to keep picking them both over and over again.

Show some ruthlessness and put them both in reserve grade.
You forgot to mention that he can't pass. Manu is always going to be Manu on defence but there's no denying that he can do good things on attack when he's got a good centre. Unfortunately the last centre that passed to him on a regular basis was Ropati. Kata is either greedy or can't pass. Or both.

Mannering was impressive on the weekend, typical workhorse performance and ran a nice line for his try.

Gavet and Thompson were immense, really imposed themselves against their former club.

It will take Bully a few weeks to really stamp his authority, thought he went alright without standing out.

Disappointed with Matulino, Lillyman and Hoffman. Need our whole pack to perform not half of them.

When was the last time our whole pack performed as a unit? Always individual performances but never as a collective.

I think when mannering makes 50 tackles he's the one doing the targeting.;)

Good on attack, bad on defence. Tried it. Doesn't work. What's next.

or doesn't need to. For a while Manu was our attack. If he wasn't playing you were wondering where our points would come from. That was a fair few seasons ago now. We have other players now that are genuine attacking threats who can score. And now we have them and Manu has gotten older and slower his deficiencies are glaringly obvious and harder to accept. Kata scored two tries because he was in position to score them. Where was Manu? I also don't recall during the game anytime where I said to myself 'pass it to Manu please Kata'

Kata and Manu on the same side is a bad coaching call...

One doesn't know how to tackle and one likes coming in to spot the centre....

They need to be split up.

I'd even pair Kata and Wright, as we know Kata cannot pass a ball. He is the new Brent Tate,

Lillyman needs to either be dropped to NSW Cup or head off to the ESL. He is ineffective and holding the spot of a young more dynamic prop.

Surprisingly, I thought Robson went OK on attack, he does seem to have a calming effect.

Luke was useless, but if he has a hammy complaint, why play him to make it worse.

Johnson is/was injured...at one stage he had the chance to accelerate away and he couldn't do it, I think even Chad would have been quicker over 25 metres than Johnson on Saturday...

I've calmed down a lot as it was Round one and we have had a lot of unrealistic hype around us.....

At this stage, we could easily be 0-6, which would be a disaster for the club as a whole.

Where's Manu?

We could find ourselves asking that question a lot this season.

Then he'll show up by dropping a ball.

Ah, there he is....

Dreadful defensively in the first half and rarely had the ball. When we did in the second half we scored points. Tried to force it a little in the last 10 though I thought instead of creating any pressure.

Defence really needs to step up on Friday or we could be on the end of a hiding.

My thoughts in the cold - and sober - light of day;

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck - Looked lost without structure around him. Whilst he made loads of meters I actually thought that Kevin Locke might have done better with that break a few year ago. I was also a little concerned with his one-on-one defence, given that that was one of Tomkins biggest weaknesses.

Tui - Wasted on the wing but at least that side as reasonably defensively solid. Made a couple of errors but wasn't really involved in the game. Why was he goal kicking?

Blake - Was better than I expected on attack and defence. Not a world beater but dependable. Hurrell might have got a couple of tries that Aysford didn't but he was in a well beaten NSW Cup team yesterday so the right edge might have been as leaky as the left if he'd been selected.

Kata - Scored a couple of tries, didn't pass, didn't tackle and showed no urgency to get back upfield when the Tigers made a break. Infuriating.

Manu - Was going ok until he decided to try and turn things around single handedly and then, of course, the errors came......

Johnson - Played well in the second half but I got the feeling that that was because he thought "fuck the game plan" and just went for it. Why was he still feeding the scrums and kicking for touch?

Robson - The perfect replacement for Townsend, as he was shite as well.

Lilliman - Huffed and puffed but he's probably on the way out - how many more years does he have left in him? He was never the most dynamic prop and is now probably best suited to coming off the bench if he makes the 17.

Luke - Total non-event. Looked fat, lazy and disinterested. Should change nickname from Bully to Boily.

Big Ben - Good performance, nothing flashy, good on defence and bent the line.

Benry - Was doing ok until the inevitable happened. Still cant believe he was picked over Bodene.

Hoffman - Bad day at the office all round.

Mannering - Played like he always does. I'd make him captain!

Roache - Made Luke look like a fat lazy cu**.

Lisone - Ran hard and tackled well.

Gavet - Also ran hard and tackled well.

Thompson - Why was he on the bench? One of our best forwards last night on attack and defence.

Cappy - What the fuck mate? Team section? Game plan? Organisation?

Morgan - Defensive coach, enough said.

I forgot to mention - pass mark to Rueben : overall the guys looked fit and it was the Tigers who faded in the heat.

I'm just about in the Bring Back TL camp as well...

We missed his defensive power...
I was never out of that camp, far superior player despite being at best an average NRL standoff when fully fit

You don’t understand, he single-handedly derails the attack and make us loose. It’s a disgrace how he gets back into the team so easily I tells ya.

But srsly, unless he wants to take on playing centre he's not going to help that much. I'm not suggesting that, but Ivan did play Hohaia and Berrigan there once upon a time...

He's average on attack, but fantastic on defense... And running with the ball he's pretty tough...

We're effectively running two hookers with TL out there. Once Luke gets the forward pack up to scratch it could work out amazingly well...

Throw in the incentive of them being an all kiwis spine and the combs could be amazing.

That one time on Stirlo when Shaun Johnson call for the ball, it kinda looked like Friend made the call to go left anyways. Luke won't make that mistake very often...

But I'm not righting Robson off just yet. In the second half he made some nice one on one tackles... The competition for that spot is one to watch alright..

You'd think that Luke would want to show what he's got the first game as a Warrior, instead of being lazy. I can forgive Robson, who tried his heart out, but just didn't gell with his teammates. But to act like you don't care??? I bet he has no problem cashing his check and taking 100% of the amount on the back of 50% effort. Excusing Warriors performances, and attitudes, because it's one game is how we get in this mess. I looked at Friend's stats with the Gold Coast. Across the board better than Luke! And it was his first game. We should have kept Friend due to his attitude and the number of tackles he makes. Friend could even play another year, with Roache coming off after him after serving an apprenticeship with Friend.
Friend picked up an injury and did not play in the 2nd half Mortimer came on at half time he's a truer friendly has the right attitude

Agreed. If we had a reliable, passing left Centre Manu would be fine. Also Ropati said Manu needs a sound communicator inside him. You'd think in the last 3-4 years an experienced left Centre would have been priority. Kata is not the man to partner Manu.
