Without regurgitating what others have said, the biggest difference for me was the way that we played as a TEAM. For the last few years everyone has stood back and watched one or two doing the hard yards, this year is very different the forwards have stepped up as a team and all playing their part. With so many injuries and positional changes that they created is it any wonder why the backbone failed to deliver? Our team now has a good feel and as they get to know each other better we can only dream of how good they are going to get.
Great to see the young guns Lisone and Vete slotting in like seasoned professionals and welcome back Pomkins.

Warriors player thinking!! Holy crap, get him out of the place, that's not our culture, bro!! CHUUUUUUUURRR.

Fair call, though. I think there can be a bit too much pressure put on a team's "playmaker/s". When that player has a great game (p68. Four Nations Final 2014: New Zealand v Australia in Wellington, Kearney, Mannering, et al), that runs the risk of becoming Average or even worse Minimum, rather than the upper reaches towards Maximum.

And of course it rubs out any impact had by A: Playmakers' team-mates and B: Playmakers' team's opposition performance.

Yes, Johnson hasn't set the world on fire so far in 2015 and obviously he can do better, but are we seeing the New Average (from my readings here, general concensus is last night was better) for Shaun because now we're going "Heck, Golden Boot Winner, step it up ya girl!!" My point being that most playmakers play at their average. Sometimes they hit a bit above, sometimes a bit below. And every so often deliver a good WTF game, and every so often deliver a bad WTF game. Johnaton Thurston so far in 2015 (forgetting the targetting going on allegedly on Saturday): Is his work Below Minimum, Minimum/Somewhere Between Minimum And Average or Average?

Also, how many people here suspect Shuan doesn't back himself enough because he - rightly or wrongly - doesn't trust the process (seems to be the new in-phrase) that, oops, that didn't work, hey Simon/Thomas/Whoever have got my back and will cover? Or he doesn't trust himself?

I think this combination on attack and defence has been our biggest issue both weeks (not counting hooker, hooker is clearly our biggest problem but help is not on the way). There were a couple of times where both Johnson and Thompson fell off some soft tackles and gave up linebreaks, the rest of the team scrambling really saved us. Thompson is either really physical or not committed and their doesnt seem to be an inbetween. They both looked hurt and flat, they are getting targeted big time, Soliola, Croker and Whighton were pounding that edge, but until they step up and sort themselves out they will continue to see a lot of traffic. I don't think its unreasonable to say that these two getting targeted on Defence is affecting their attack aswell. Bodene Thompson's butter fingers were a well kept secret, heart in the mouth every time he gets near the ball. Johnson needs real protection on that side, not because he can't tackle, but so that he doesn't have to. Andrew Johns and Darren Lockyer had a security guard escort on Defence and Johnson needs one. While he is seeing that sort of traffic, I think Thompson needs to split his minutes with Henry evenly on that flank.

Shaun's defence went downhill after he got injured. Before that he was like Goldberg delivering the spear. Bodene FWIW and I have no idea how aside from amazing desire, stopped Wighton from scoring a certain try. Close to the play of the game that one. Massive momentum changer. Imagine Felatio Martel, he would have jogged back half pace

The team showed character. They definitely have the makings of a good team. I agree. Keep the same forwards. We do miss Konnie a bit midfield. But once we hit round 20ish I think we'll have built up nicely. Hurrell/Kata in centre's sounds tantalizing.

I still Lolohea to Fb and ST to 6 would really make this team.
Tomkins vital for that link play, but weak at bringing the ball back. One line break in 25 games when returning the ball. Lolo he a had 2? Last week. Try the roosters and what they did with Minnie and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck otherwise stick with Tomkins. I see he tripped over himself again last night, almost farking up his ankle.

Pretty much everything has been said already but just some quick thoughts.

Mannering at Lock has improved the defense a whole lot even last week the middle was ours and the Knights had troubles getting yardage. Same tonight he does so much clean up work 120 metres and 50 tackles I think he can be our Corey Parker awesome game.

Lisone and Vete man these two are so switched on for young guns Lisone is a gun he is passionate about the game and winning you saw him was filthy at Tommie for that ugly forward pass. Need a nickname for these two just big and tough minded players lol don't see Rapira and Matagi earning a recall of these two keep playing this way. Could have a legitimate four prop rotation again with these two and Bull and Mutts

I maybe in the minority but thought Wright was pretty solid not great just solid was good on kick returns and helped Tui on defense saw a passage where he made like three tackles in a row on the edge was solid for mine.

Hoffman just a beast massive game for the second week in a row looks to be a quality buy for the team his talk and organising on attack and defense was top notch.

Shaun Johnson still a little quiet for mine was better than last week but still needs more touches but did run the game well with The Chad and closed it out.

Hooker to me is where the club should be investing money into friend and Tommie are not doing a good job at the moment might be timing and learning to play the 50/50 role but think we should go all in on a guy Like Andrew McCollough offer him a mega deal and see if he bolts the Broncos. A top quality hooker makes this current team a top four contender and a legitimate title threat imo.

Overall happy with the game attack was so so but defense extremely happy with.
McColl ought similar player. Tackling machine. Give ha villi a go. Good runner from dummy half.

Tomkins was able to evade his marker who was practically in his face , then slide between him and the outside centre to setup Kata for his try.
I feel Lolohea would have been either wrapped up with the ball or he'd have gone for the quick catch and pass that would have been intercepted by the outside centre leading to another turn and chase.
There's the difference, both bring different skill sets but we need to make the most of it when we're attacking their line.
Yes Tui made a good break last week but I feel he could have done better to turn it into points, his moment will come is one thing I'm sure of.

The Warriors paid out good bucks to lure Tomkins to our shores for a specific reason. His rep as being one of the most talented fullbacks in the modern game.
No way in hell is Cappy going to throw him into the 6 jersey when he offers much more then who we currently have at the back.
I'd say we'd see Tui in the 6 jersey before we see Tomkins put there which I wouldn't mind if Chad was to pick up an injury.

Happy with our win, gives us a good platform to work off.

Credit to Shaun , that injury looked really swollen and sore when he was getting it wrapped but it looked like there was no way in hell he was going to go off.
I know I sure as hell feared he would have had to and was relieved he didn't.

We're on the board miss ford :)

Good win,

Forwards played really well in the 2nd half. Lillyman butchered a certain try to make it more comfortable.

I'm surpised the dislike for Thompson on here.

Having Mannering, Hoffman AND Thompson gives us the competitive backrow we have been asking for a while. They run hard and tackle hard, can't really complain.

I'm a Chad hater but he played alright this week(except the kick out on the full)....Shaun Johnson improved but I think he is playing with a niggle.

The prop rotation is looking good, I think the new boys played much much better this week than last week.

TL was OK and so was Friend when he came on. However I would be looking at dropping Friend, and bringing in Matagi or Rapira, letting Benry play the temp hooker role, this would give us some nice fire power on the bench.

Canberra looked good as well, they will surprise some people this year.

I want to also say we look very very fit, our scrambling defence was fantastic again this week...

Kata concerns me on defence, he got caught out badly once in the 1st half using his arms.

Bring on the eels...

OK better performance from last week and more importantly a win, the first win, you cant underestimate that.

Im starting to warm to our hookers :p. with the NRL taking the wrestling out of it, this game opens up so much more. the tackling just has enough effort in it to get the ball carrier down and the tackle count keeps rolling. Yes you have the odd heavy collision e.g. Manu coming off his wing and big Ben with one or two hows your father hits but most of it is fast play the ball. I feel the Warriors need to go back to the PJ Marsh, Jason Death, Latu, Ian Henderson, Lewis Brown, Godinet types. We need that PJ like DH with Friend tackling abilities. lets have the Warriors get back to what they do best and thats running out from DH, one pass from DH be on the front foot and punching up through the middle.

We need to see better last option plays. Last week Shaun Johnson kicked it instead of passing it, now hes passing it instead of kicking it. He just needs to take his options better. I ant worried, dude will get there this season.

I liked the energy the boys had in that last 10mins of the first half, they were all over the place, now if the executions were better, points could have been on the board. Still getting that rust off, but they will gel in the coming early rounds.

Sam Tomkins being vocal is something I like to see, I hope no one tells him to shut up, look what happen to Wade McKinnon when he was told to pipe down. yes I know theres a limit (allegedly spitting at the ref is really over stepping it!). If playing vocal is what makes Sam play his best then I hope it continues.

How about those first 10mins in the 2nd?!?! Boys came out firing, punished the Raiders for making a mistake and scored some more. To the Raiders credit they managed to get it together again, the same Raiders from last year would have let the flood gates open.

The Warriors scramble D was something to behold, this was a team for the last few years would leak points faster than you could turn off the tv or switch the channel. I liked it, I liked it alot.

And lol at Jacob Lillyman, dude couldnt catch the ball to put one under the posts, but managed to regather it on the bounce, only to not have a good enough grip on it to throw it away.

Home game coming up. Good to have the boys play at Mt. Smart again.

Yea I saw all of that, but I also saw that channel give up three line breaks. I didn't say that those two can't tackle, it just seems they go through lulls where they are not 100% committed and get split open. The reason I am most concerned about it is, Shaun Johnson will see heaps of traffic because of it and it will continue to affect his attacking game aswell.

I really do not share the positive feelings about this game that a lot seem to have.
We did not play well and we only won cause Raiders are shit.
Our last tackle plays were horrible and we dropped too much ball, we bombed 2 certain tries and couldn't land a knockout blow or get a field goal.
We only completed 66% and there is daylight between us and the Rabbits and Chooks.
All I can say is a win is a win and thats great to get off the duck but we have major problems with our kicking, handling and communication.
Thank fuck we have an easy opening month.

Great to have Mutts back, Tomkins, was the difference last night, I honestly believe if he had
played against Newcastle we would of won. Hoffman is a great pick up and I believe will be viewed in coming years like we now look on Campion, Price and Luck. I am so loving Lisone, he will be a superstar for us, both he and Manu very unlucky to miss out on points.

Luck was a great player but imo he cant compare to a Price or a Campion. He never had that ability to inspire a team to greatness by action or word. He was however a great player who gave his all, and i do rate him. But Steve and Keven were catalysts in the team.

While I agree with what you have said when comparing Luck to those other two.....I would very much have liked to have seen what Luck could have inspired in this team as Captain.

I don't want to kick off a Mannering Captaincy debate....there was is a thread for that somewhere.

Would it be fair to say that Mannerings style is not of the Campion / Price class either ? ( rhetorical)
