Most NZ stadiums historically have usually had minor upgrades if you Lancaster Park adding the Hadlee stand or the bigger stand, same with Eden Park before the world cup upgrades. A lot of other countries may have historically done the same but they probably had better stadiums to start with, then the stadium experience sports are looking to provide or fans are wanting increased. Now if you look at the NZ stadiums they don't match up.
The no strategy around it is a key point. It seems to be the NZ way to look after the now instead of build towards the future. Look at the harbor bridge with the clip on lanes.
We have had a lot of debate about where sport should be played in Auckland and a push for a down town stadium. The people responsible for stadiums in Auckland and the people pushing for the down town stadium need to monitor this project closely and make some trips over to North Queensland to talk with the people involved.
