New Zealand Rugby (NZR) boss Mark Robinson has confirmed negotiations have been underway for a hybrid 14-a-side match against Mal Meninga's Kangaroos.
Robinson said NZR are interested in learning more about the concept that could be hugely lucrative for NZR and the ARL.
"We've had an approach," Robinson said of the game that could take place later this year.
"We'll work that through and go through the proper process... if we feel it has merit to take further.
"It's one of the many different options ... we are considering," Robinson said.
"It's not new. The last time NZR had an approach was in 2017."
Robinson said there were various reasons why that concept never got off the ground.
Meninga told The Courier-Mail the two parties "are in serious negotiations" and have a pencilled in a date of December 5 at a yet to be determined venue.
“I’m keen to make this happen. We want to play the All Blacks, hopefully, we can get the concept off the ground," Meninga told The Courier-Mail.
Robinson did confirm the main focus for the NZR was salvaging international rugby matches in the wake of the Covid-19 interruption.
"Our priority is on the All Blacks to play international rugby.
