Why? because they realise they are about to join the great un washed, and as such they are turncoats now that the shoe is on the other foot...they when faced with the loss of their incomes, are choosing a socialist govt with its empathy toward the welfare state..which they realise they may well be soon part of...national wont give a fuck that someone who was a soaring entrepreneur in say tourism yesterday, now needs help..they will treat them as tax bludgers and seek to punish them for their failures in a capitalist system as they always have.

That's quite the sweep of opinion there, can I asked based on what?

You appear to assume that the same people that managed to build a life for themselves previously are about the strip down to their underwear, give up washing and personal hygiene, sit on their couches and expect free money to do so.

Can I point out that not everyone that has something was handed it by some rich benefactor, most people worked for everything they have and some of them worked damn hard. And should they lose everything they have through no fault of their own they have every fucken right to expect help no matter which party they have voted for in the past.

It might also pay for you to remember many of the businesses that will fail in the next year or so will have done everything they could to stay afloat, whether working even longer hours, cost cutting and whatever else they deemed necessary. Not only for themselves but in many cases for the people they also employ. You obviously have never spent many unpaid hours at work trying to make sure you have work for your staff, and you have also obviously never had to bring someone into your office to tell them that through no fault of their own you can no longer keep them employed due to a change in the business.
Actually if the time comes that I have to do that with some of my staff maybe you can sit opposite them rather than me and tell them them are about to lose their ability to support their family. But it's for the best because at least you didn't catch Covid19.

I keep seeing posts on here about heartless National governments, but your post that I took the paragraph from and some earlier ones show a level of heartlessness to match any National government, all touchy feely about looking after the under privileged but only if they meet your standards.

How ironic is it that in South Auckland where Labour dominate, the numbers of churches flourish and the constituency happily "donate" on sundays..

Practising religiously at church is a far cry from an having good morals from a sound upbringing. Also I never caught the name of the church Jesus attended in his time on earth..
Jesus attended the temples and taught in them. And on one famous Sunday he upturned tables and had a rant when he discovered they were using the temple as a market place.

Am ok with Muller being religious for two reasons
- I am religious and am a business person.
- He is a member of the National Party and not a more conservative party

I think Bill English was catholic too and he didn't base any platforms from his faith.

I'm not religious, but I find it amusing that Jesus was upset about the markets in the temples as they were obviously not Christian churches as brightman was pointing out, so which deity was he so offended for? I would suspect that as a Jew it was a Synagogue and therefore Judaism is the true religion?

When it comes to government I don't care which of the 2500 plus invisible sky, water or volcano deities the PM follows just don't expect me to sign up and don't be asking them for directions on how to run the country.

Looking from the outside in (I live in Australia)

I do Like Jacinda & the NZ Labor Party
However, I do hope they win without the bad influence of the Greens

I kinda hmmmed when I first saw her, but PM Jacinda is a real Gem for NZ

She also gives NZ some personality without a boring grey haired male conservative leader.
(and I am a boring male with a few greys as well) :)

P>S . Simon Bridges was to far up China's butt.
No one wants to be close buddies with China at the moment.

Plus virtually everything that was an issue at the last election indicates Labour has made little headway, we don't have anywhere near the number of houses promised, homelessness is still a huge problem, poverty levels are as bad as they have ever been, domestic violence continues unabated and suicide is the highest its ever been, so without Covid to take away everyones attention the government in reality made little progress in any of their targeted issues. So again anyone capable of looking beyond Covid doesn't exactly see too much success on offer.
I've seen a few articles when their bad stats are pointed out to them, they counter they count them differently now but they are improving. After they were elected saw people say they will talk big and say they will have measurable stats and goals but they will eventually take these away for being too hard.

I'm not a huge fan of the current Labour lot as they wasted 9 years in opposition with a few policies they have failed to implement. National could go the same way as Bridges was starting to sound like Goff, Cunnliffe (should of got spell check to correct that) or Little where it sounded like living in NZ is a chore. The new leader has a tough battle ahead of him. I'd prefer to hear about policies instead of criticism.

Although I am not a fan of the current Labour group they have done well with covid-19. Well their top guys have and have worked well with the experts while the health minister went off bike riding.

Personality plays a huge part in the way people vote, that can not be denied and again I think Labour will win. But who ever wins I want an opposition that keeps them honest, and I want an opposition that is actually working on their own policies not just sitting there collecting a pay cheque and don't turn out to be the most surprised out of anyone if they actually win.

Yeah, why did the Health minister of all people even have time on his hands in the first place to go bike riding during a world wide pandemic where 340 000 people are dead. Which is more than the allies lost in the Vietnam war (280K).

100% a good opposition is necessary to hold governments to account but the great tragedy in politics is how tribalism plays such a large part and people support political parties like their favourite sports team or because their parents did. Policies are forever changing and you would think strong leadership would be high on the agenda too.

I don't feel we have enough good strong politicians in the whole country let alone individual parties. When National can change to a leader that virtually no one in the country has heard of it just makes me wonder what the fuck has he been doing since 2014.
It also to me at least suggests we have far too many politicians at the trough.

Halve their numbers and halve the number of people in councils earning more than the prime minister and then...

Where am I going with this?

To many people in the public service earning way to much.

As some may know teachers are complaining that the Teachers Council, who register teachers, are tripling their fees. They employ 110 people to do this simple task at an average salary of over 100k. They have 12 people earning over 200k.

To many compliance and non productive people sucking off the productive people are ruining our country. When the downturn really digs in it will expose the councils and organisations legislated into monopolistic compliance existence who do not lower their costs. Businesses face huge compliance costs to fund non productive sections of the workforce and this drag will assist to kill the economy.

Productive people and businesses lose jobs because of this significant weight they support. To many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Absolutely, and make them all accountable to the voters themselves, not from some obscure list. No names, no votes running the damn country??

And then the economic credentials of this govt:

Increasing the minimum wage by 5.6% while business crashes and burns😬

No clue...
If you can only afford to pay minimum wage then your business is fucked anyway, so dont come crying to anybody about that.
Can you also name any business that does pay minimum wage so I can avoid using those scummy cu**s.
How about the outcry from the National party idiots when this economically inept government gave the racing industry (which generates 1.6 billion a year for our economy and employs 15,000 people) 72 million in the budget, but those same tarded fucks when in government spent the equivalent on a flag referendum and a handout to a random Saudi sheep farmer billionaire (who hasnt even set up this mythical agri hub).

So please tell me which government has the better economic credentials.

And we have owned a small business for the last 20 years and there is no difference in help when national is in or Labour, so the myth of National being better for small businesses is exactly that.

The whole problem is wages haven't kept up with inflation.. Being that the price of rent, food etc is at staggering highs and was before this government came into power if minimum wage wasn't altered you run the risk of much more homelessness.

And yet I read yesterday that Todd muller opposes a cannabis reform but will use the economy and revenue to form an argument that government has killed the economy. If you're not prepared to think outside the square or your religious views dictate your politics your not the right person for the job in these troubled times.
