We're staying in St. Kilda for a few weeks, when we arrive.
All I've been told is to stay away from Collingwood, if I want to avoid teams with glory hunting supporters

I know where you're coming from, but I'm afraid I haven't got a choice.
I love sports, and it would be a problem for me not to be able to discuss it. Also, I would be pretty bored, as it's (as you know) a massive sport in Melbourne.

Everyone has a choice, I don't really discuss it but only if people ask if I follow anybody then I usually mention the Melbourne Demons. Kinda like the Warriors in an odd sort of way

FTR I don't follow the AFL but I kinda use the Demons as a back up in case anybody asks me, and those who ask are usually have no dea what rugby league even is!

Haha I hate AFL, but its only because I don't really get it aye.

I used to hate cricket too, but once I understood the rules and everything I have started to really enjoy watching it and playing it.

Could be the same with AFL maybe? I'm half Australian (not my better half mind you) so that could help, although my Australian half is from NSW (filthy I know).

LOL, quite frankly its not so much that I hate the sport of AFL, like you King, I don't get it. It confused the hell out of me, and it also doesn't really appeal. You know, how, with some sports you just like it straight away and you can't get enough. Even if I understood AFL I probably still wouldn't like it. lol. It's just not the sort of sport I want to follow

Normally, when I move to a new country, I always support the local team, and as I mentioned, we're staying in St. Kilda, when we get there.
And apparently they're frustrating to watch too (like Odense, Charlton, Denmark and the Warriors), so why not?
I'll let you know when I've come up with a decision. Right now I'm all over the show :rofl:
But I really hope that I can hook up with fellow Warriors fans next season, when we're playing. Nothing better than having a few pints/drinks with fellow fans in the pub (if we can't go to the game).
And it's nice not to be the only one:
- going mental because of a win
- throwing abuse at the TV, when we f@ck it up (again)

I don't mind the AFL. It's appallingly watchable. I tuned into it a couple of years ago and found myself watching it for about twenty minutes. Having a Melbournite guide me through the rules helped a lot. Similarly with NFL, I didn't like it, but my American sis-in-law showed me the ropes, and now that I get it, it's quite watchable.

It's got nothing on our code, though.

Yep, never heard that joke before... (the truth is that you can't actually get a proper Danish pastry outside Denmark - trust me, even the Kiwis who's been to Denmark agree - probably the same as having a Hokey Pokey wannabe icecream in Denmark - it's just not the same).
I'm in Blenheim at the moment, but from 23rd July - 11th August, I'll be in Milford on the North Shore. Then Europe for a few weeks before Melbourne.
And thanks for the nice words. Trust me, us Danes loves the Kiwis too! Down to earth, friendly and laid back people. No arse kissing here, just the plain truth.
Only one thing to complain about: You've got way too many thin and tasteless 4% beers (Tui, Speights, Mac's, Export, Lion Red etc.).
But I'm a big big fan of Emerson and other similar NZ micro breweries.
