General Movie Thread

Highly recommend Parasite. It's a Korean movie with English subtitles. Dark comedy/thriller. Best to go in cold without reading much about it so you can enjoy how the story unfolds. Won palme d'or at Cannes and rated around 8.8 on imdb and 99% on rotten tomatoes.
Just won best picture at the oscars*. First foreign language film to do so. If you guys get a chance, go see it!

* won 3 other oscars as well.

Accept it’s Hollywood and leave it at that. I’m not expecting cultural and historical accuracy tbh

Clark Gable in Mutiny on the Bounty saying “I long for the rolling hills of Cumberland” in his American drawl was the most ridiculous. He certainly didn’t sound like me anyhow

Another of my favourites, excuse the historical inaccuracy

i take your producers and raise you a mel brooks

I was going to see 1917 this weekend, but the missus has mentioned Parasite instead after seeing the news this morning. My eldest girl saw Parasite on Saturday and thought it was great

Was looking forward to Black Widow, No Time to Die and a couple of other movies coming out.

No Time to Die was pushed out to later in the year due to the current issues.

The new Pixar movie ended up a bomb at the box office due to unfortunate timing.

There’s a few such as the Pixar movie going straight to digital or even movies that are ‘still on”/just released being fast tracked too

Yeah like the Vin Diesel movie Blood Shot. Think that was going to be pulled and brought back after the industry picks up again. There are a few that can are now rentable. A lot of people will be wanting to know why they want to go back to the old system, why can't we rent it from home.

Disney fast tracked Frozen 2 to Disney Plus. No sign of Rise of Skywalker. Not sure if I'd rush to watch it but more intersted as its the first big release since they released their streaming service. A good indication on how long things would of turned around from movie release to Disney Plus.

It's surprising that digital releases in tandem with the cinematic release aren't more common - EDIT: Netflix do it...
It's hard to get out to the cinema when you have small children - and those fucks price gouge the experience. Would happily pay the ticket price to watch from home.

It's also surprising Vin Diesel still has a career.

That might be because Netflix movies are so farking terrible. Usually shite quality IMO.

However, now that I have time to do so their sets of series are very watchable.

Narcos and Narcos Mexico are right up there as a must watch.

Some people don't like that it is mainly in Spanish with subtitles but IMO that just adds to the authenticity. The Germanic base of English loses all the Latin flair and eloquence of Spanish, so having to keep your eyes on the screen is a small price to pay. English parts are in English to balance it anyway.

Also as the plots and Spanish names can be a little difficult to follow Wiki is a great backup as to who they are and where they fit. Most of the characters are real people.

Sorry for a spoiler, but the continued involvement of the CIA and the US State Department on the side of the cartels is just disgusting.

I’ve mentioned this series on the TV thread, you’d probably like it reading your post. I’m on series 4

Cool. I will check it out. Amazing how the psychology of organised crime is interesting e.g. The Godfather

Since Sky opened up Movies for the next 3 months I've been more interested in movies on there instead of Netflix.

A lot of older movies like:
Delta Force 1 and 2. Part one was alright.
Lone Wolf Macquade.
The Quest
Lady Bloodfight
House at the end of the Street
Bent - Karl Urban movie
Blitz - Jason Statham.

Also looking forward to watching
They Live - An old Roddy Piper movie I've seen mentioned a lot but have never seen.
Pet Sematary, Planes Traines and Automobiles. Haven't seen both of these for years.

Saving Force 10 from Navarone for when my father can hopefully come up. Used to watch a lot of old war movies with him and I quite liked The Guns of Navarone.

Netflix movies are pretty lame really. Not much on there that most people havent already seen though they do have the odd exclusive gem.

Didnt know SKY had opened up movies. Wonder if that includes Vodafone TV? I cancelled my SKY as soon as the season was suspended.

I'll never watch Pet Sematary. Read the book and it gave me frightening nightmares for weeks. Fuck that!!!

Favourite actors:

Al Pacino - love his classic gangster films
Morgan Freeman - always seems to pick the right roles
Leonardo Di Caprio - his acting on Basketball Diaries was awesome
Matt Damon - like the roles he plays
Charlize Theron - besides a beautiful face and banging body the girl can act
Bruce Lee - Huge fan and have been for ages.

Favourite Movies:

Scarface - genuine classic IMO. Never get sick of watching it. All time favourite
Matrix 1 - only movie I have ever walked out of a movie theater from and brought a ticket to watch it again. Great original movie with mind blowing, cutting edge cinematography. That scene where Trinity jumps in the air and the cameras do a 180 pan on her absolutely blew my mind. The rest of the series were okay but had nothing on the first one. Favourite scene is The Lobby scene. Nice mix of fighting and BS. Lame now but was cutting edge at the time.

Stars Wars - Not so much the latest stuff but the first 3 should be on everyones list. The way that movie changed the whole special effects landscape is truly amazing. Spent the best part of my early childhood mesmerized by those movies, the characters, galxies, etc...
Bourne series - Love this genre of movies and like how Jason is a highly trained Bond meets McGyver with a pinch of Rambo. Some choice fight scenes in the first movie including the one with the pen. Never get bored watching these type of movies including Jason Strathams Driver series and even Taken types.
Shawshank Redemption - Just a great story thats been well played and shot. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman did a great job. Others along this line are Forrest Gump, Green Mile, etc...
Bad Boy Bubby - never laughed and been shocked so much before in all my life. Genuine WTF moments at every turn. It was anyway before modern day TV desensitized me with the likes of South Park and all.

Theres heaps of great movies. Others like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells, Trainspotting, Hangover series, Silence of the Lambs, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, From Paris With Love, Fight Club are all just as good. Always been a 007 fan but more into the modern day half realistic movies then Pearce Brosnans far fetched movies. Gotta love Sean Connerys Bond movies too. You could go on forever with movies really...

If you like Di Caprio watch (if you haven't already) whats eating Gilbert Grape, he certainly can act.

Netflix movies are not usually any good but their series can be very good.

I have been watching this one:
It is on Netflix.
It was very popular in Colombia and is fiction based heavily on actual events and people. Anybody with experience of our prison system would recognise the interplay where the worst paranoid psychopaths tend to rule and showing the management problems in dealing with the situation. The difference is the Colombian economy which is based on drugs so the power of money rules. The first series goes for over 70 episodes and I am in the 40s. Good for binge watching during the lockdown.

Seen it and its great. If its to do with Pablo and its on Netflix I have seen it all. I'm officially Escobar and cocained out. Watched way too much of it but I will watch any future episodes of Narcos which is a fantastic series...

Haha I'm not scared by Horror movies.

But I can't watch pet Semetary either coz it will remind me of the shits the book gave me.

Green Book the best recent movie I've seen.

Great on screen chemistry with the lead and supporting actor.
