WTF

https://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/sharknado-spins-horror-story-article-1.1376073

It’s the storm of the century — with teeth.
“Sharknado” is a new B-movie, produced for the Syfy channel, that that pits hundreds of man-eating sharks against plastic-surgery victim Tara Reid and the rest of the silicone-flavored populace of Los Angeles.
“Usually in A shark movie, it’s ‘don’t go in the water,’ says Thomas Vitale, executive vice president for programming and original movies at Syfy. “In ‘Sharknado,’ the sharks come to you.”
It debuts July 11.
The premise is as ridiculous — and for lovers of monster movies, as awesome — as they come:
“After a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. And when the high-speed winds form tornadoes in the desert, nature’s deadliest killer rules water, land, and air.”

An L.A. parking lot, previously shark-free, turns deadly in "Sharknado."
The movie’s poster features a great white shark leering out of a spinning vortex of fins and teeth, with the tagline “Sharknado: Enough Said.”
Inexplicably, the tornados that suck up the sharks — and hurl them through windows and roofs and send them raining down on screaming teens — are unable to lift any other forms of sea life, leaving the hungry beasts no choice but to eat people.
The film, which also stars “Beverly Hills 90210” alum Ian Ziering, took a few weeks to film and cost around $2 million. It was among the most buzzed-about projects last month at the prestigious TV Festival de Cannes, says Vitale, who has spearheaded the channel’s decade-long push to offer low-budget monster movies on Saturday (and, this summer, Thursday) nights.
“Internally [at Syfy], we spend a lot of time joking about the movies, but when you’ve done 250 of them we really have to start playing around with these ideas,” he says.
Like many of Syfy’s films, “Sharknado” was produced for the network by The Asylum, an L.A.-based schlock factory that has created such gems as “Snakes on a Train,” “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies,” “2-Headed Shark Attack” and “Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus.”
Apparently they really like sharks.
“These are not comedies,” Vitale notes. “They have that outlandish, campy, over-the-top tone, but the people involved are real and want to survive. If you were in a situation where all of a sudden you have sharks falling from the sky, once you got over the insanity of it, you’d try to survive.”

Highly recommend Parasite. It's a Korean movie with English subtitles. Dark comedy/thriller. Best to go in cold without reading much about it so you can enjoy how the story unfolds. Won palme d'or at Cannes and rated around 8.8 on imdb and 99% on rotten tomatoes.

not nbeen to many lately, but one sci fi i really enjoyed was, the wanddering earth, on netflix. its chinese scifi, dubbed. Great story. i am sure there is a dubbed version for those purists

Caught Brightburn last night, bit disappointed after an interesting premise

Just finished the new Joker movie, wow - great origin film.
Was surprised it was a Todd Phillips' film (hangover movies).

Edit.

I know I’m one of the older posters. Off the top of my head:

The Godfather, both 1 and 2. 3 was rubbish
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Pulp Fiction
2001 a Space Odyssey
Goodfellas
The King and I. I loved musicals as a kid and my two daughters the same when they were young. This one is a favourite in our house
Full Metal Jacket
The Magnificent 7
Psycho
Kind Hearts and Coronets. A bit of a curve ball, it’s a b+w comedy from the 1940’s that pokes fun at the British class system. Brilliant film

Many more.....

Edit. Lawrence of Arabia
Rear Window
The Third Man

Very dark. Great origin movie I thought. Was quite hard to watch in places (stand up routine).
I felt sympathy for the madman - which clearly was the goal. Joaquin Phoenix did a great job.
Yeah I watched 3 times and it finally clicked. Jokers perception and reality were portrayed well and worked as a great plot twist. Love the dark maniacal Joker...

First two were brilliant, the third was ok except he put his daughter in the role of Michael's daughter...terrible choice...also liked the linking of the Mafia to the catholic Church...really liked that

Still banned in Thailand...because apart from anything else it is a heap of shite...just saying like
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Somebody tell me a bad movie that Clint Eastwood starred in?
Correct thread to put it on I guess, Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas has died aged 103. RIP

I love Rocky Horror and managed to get along to the musical when it played in Auckland. Fantastic experience and the crowd was super engaged and involved during the whole thing. Funny shit.

It’s a great musical, bit of escapism for a couple of hours:D:D
If some fucker made a movie about the north of England being a bunch of retarded coal miners with dumb wives and a retarded king...how would that go? Just saying like. If you ever want to take a trip to Thailand don't mention it on the way through customs...just a hint. ;) ..It is typical ignorant western colonial shite. Thailand isn't perfect but it isn't like that movie made it out either. Their version of slavery was like first class luxury compared to what went on in the British colonies.

seen it live twice, once had ex prime minister robert (piggy) muldoon as the narrator. Seemingly Russel Crow was Eddy (but i dont remember that), and i thought Craig Mclaughlan played the part of Rocky. According to the internet that was way back in 1987, I must have only just arrived in Auckland that year or the year. Wow thats going back for me.

Muldoon was the narrator...a lot of the cast were gay...and he was arguing against decriminalization of homosexuality at the time  ...strange little bastard...and yes I think Rusty was in the show as well.

Accept it’s Hollywood and leave it at that. I’m not expecting cultural and historical accuracy tbh

Clark Gable in Mutiny on the Bounty saying “I long for the rolling hills of Cumberland” in his American drawl was the most ridiculous. He certainly didn’t sound like me anyhow

Another of my favourites, excuse the historical inaccuracy
