A sales guy at work was talking earlier in the year how New Zealanders in business say happy new up until February or March. A lot work also doesn't pick up until then as well as we take most of January and February off.

I took his comments and made a joke of it so pretty much all year we'd get in to work in the morning. He'd say good morning to everyone, from me he'd get a happy new year. Told him in the new year when I get back and everyone is saying happy new year I will say good morning.

After 2020 I'm glad to see the end of that joke.

Happy new year comrades. Or should I be saying that it the Trump thread.

I think we all want to see the back of 2020. Obviously the date changing to Jan 1 isn't going to change much in terms of the world situation, just like new years resolutions its more hope and you still need to act on it and see it through. We have some hope with the vaccines on the way and we are in a country where we aren't locked down or facing restrictions. Even if we do go into lockdown its not a get cases under 1000 or reduced like other countries its a case of getting us back to normal life.

Its been a good year and the crazy events have given us a lot to discuss while passing the time. Hopefully next year its more talk on football and discussion on how high up in the 8 we will finish. Those are the best discussions although they have been few and far between.

My 2020 started with hope that my mothers cancer treatment was working and all of her suffering was worth it. Late January or early February she was in hospital as she couldn't keep food down. She wanted to make it to the her wedding anniversary on the 13th. We all thought that wouldn't be an issue. She ended up passing away on their 55th wedding anniversary.

The timing might have been for the best considering the articles about treatments being cancelled during the lockdowns.

Besides my sister who live around the corner my elderly father now needs to fend for himself now if he over does it in the garden and falls asleep his dinner isn't ready when he wakes up. I live 4 hours away but the plan was to come down and see him more often so he could see the kids. Instead he's locked in his home alone while he is still getting over the loss of his partner of 55 years.

Hopefully the vaccines arrive as we originally planned a family trip to the Central Coast and with my fathers advanced age there likely won't be a chance for many more.
