I feel the issue is that the interpretation of the rainbow symbol has different meaning to different people.

It has been rebranded into representing ‘inclusivity of everyone’ which under your interpretation is offensive if these players don’t want in.

But their interpretation is not ‘inclusivity to everyone’ but the rainbow is specifically a representation of the LGBTQA community. They don’t want to promote something they fundamentally can’t believe in or support.

Is it ‘inclusivity for all’ or is it specifically about the LGBTQA community? These are 2 very different ideals. One is very open ended; one is very specific.

Moving the rainbow ‘brand’ to become bigger than just the LGBTQA community and into inclusivity for all has muddied what it even represents. It is pushing the boundary whereby these religious people must be included with them or not rather than supporting them or not.
Even using your version. It is about including the LGBTQA community.

Its is not telling the players to be gay, so not telling them to sin.

It is telling them to be inclusive of people different to them. And they said no.

Choosing to exclude gay people because of a bigots belief they shouldn't be included is unacceptable.

The Christians are free to play, and they are free to believe, they just have to welcome other different to them. They are the ones excluding them selves for even supporting that message.

The reality is it isnt about religion. If it was then they would follow the rules of the bible. The reality is they are using the bible to justify their hate for an incredibly persecuted group.

That Tik Tok video shared above is pretty damn spot on.

The problem is by pandering to their bigotry is making sure that other people don't get to feel safe.

The jersey is saying LGBTQA people are safe here. If a bunch of players are going to play but refuse to wear the message because they disagree then LGBTQA people are not safe there.

So Manly have done the best of a bad situation. They have said those players are welcome to play, and welcome not to. They are included if they want to. The players don't want to be included.

Personally I would rather start with inclusivity and let people sit our if they don't like it than start with pandering to bigotry to avoid upsetting the bigots.

As you rightly pointed out the lack of consistency in their views and actions. Basically they are OK with sin, just not this one thing. Hence why it is clear its just hate of a group who were born different to them.

If they are consistent across the board then i can accept their stance a bit more. I still don't like it because its awful, but i can accept it. But they aren't. They just hate gay people and this is a consequence of it.
We have reached an impasse. Which is kinda screwy as we differ about how to achieve the same thing. But rather than treat the forum to endless more pages I will stop now.
It's been interesting hearing your views.

But not illegal. Not respecting peoples right to their religious beliefs while in employment is…
It's the right to not be discriminated against because of said belief. Show me how those players are being discriminated against? Are they paid less? Are they treated like shit and abused? Are they banned from playing?

Having a sook because of a colour on a playing uniform is not protected

We both know it’s because of religious beliefs which are fundamental to who and what those people are.

Just like being gay 🤷‍♂️
Yeah it's actually not. Watch the the videos posted above.

Either observe your faith peacefully and quietly, or fuck off, and that applies to ALL religions.

It’s about everyones right to believe whatever they want without being judged for it…

But not illegal. Not respecting peoples right to their religious beliefs while in employment is…
So should we respect the Talibans rights to believe in their ass backwards and violent beliefs while using religion as an excuse for said beliefs?
Not every belief has to be respected or accepted.
There's shit in my culture from 20 years I strongly disagree with as do a lot of others I know that aren't stuck in the past.
Btw being gay isn't a belief.

Religion is a choice, being gay is not. A good friend of mine from school (and his family) were all strong christians growing up, but they have all separately grown away from it and given it up over the years. I remember an awkward conversation when we were 8 or 9 about how awesome I thought Queen (the band) was, and my friend told me he wouldn't listen to that rubbish because Freddie Mercury was wrong/improper/whatever. I knew Freddie was gay but didn't understand what the problem was and didn't understand the beliefs my friend and his family had.

It came up in conversation a couple of years ago and he just shook his head in embarrassment. But as with everyone he needed to go on his own journey to understand what he believes himself, not what he was taught to believe.

But of course, you can be religious and can be inclusive. You can take positive learnings from religion and apply those is beneficial ways to yourself and others.

People that take any subject/religion/guidance and allow themselves to be blindly dictated to without questioning the application of these on EVERYONE is a muppet.

None of that is applicable for someones sexuality.

At the end of the day, say what you want about Manlys handling of rolling out the jumper without getting the players on board first, but this has at least shown that these conversations are needed and there is a lot of understanding that needs to be taken on all sides. Better to have those now and not hope there is an ideal/less disruptive time in the future.

I heard this morning that the players in question will likely wear the rainbow jersey next year. So the issue might not be about wearing the jersey at all but more about not being consulted about the change and clearly their religious beliefs have had a part in this. It is good to have different point of views expressed but at the end of the day it is probably making a mountain out of a molehill. I am sure this debate cannot continue for much longer!

I have heard that Marty Tapau has resigned from Manly today.
Not too sure about the authenticity.
Pretty reliable source
