General Lance Hohaia

First I've heard of it, Millwall, but great news if and when it gets confirmed. (Great news for the club - not necessarily for Lance.)

Yeah, I haven't seen any media releases just yet. I hope it's true, though.

Hohaia wears the no.3 jersey this weekend. I think he plays better as a 3 than a 4. The 3 spot has more time to make decisions .

good for us but one thinks perhaps a bad move by lance considering his history here. he could no doubt proabbly get a good gig somewhere else in the nrl and a lot more game time too. perhaps cleary has a spot for him in the future and maybe this is why he has reportedly resigned with us. who knows all will be revealed I guess once this is offical

I am not so sure that it is to our advantage. Hohaia is a half back who can cover at centre. Rovelli is the preferred half so he is always going to be a bit player.
I would prefer we looked for a specialist centre with size and pace to be effective out wide, particularly as Mannering seems to have lost his pace.

I personally think mannering is destined for the second row. depending on who we pick up I think mannering will be in the second row exclusively next year.

if this is true i think both the warriors and hohaia got the bad ends of the deal.

for the past recent seasons hohaia has been tossed around all over the place. he isnt gonna get a run in his prefered position of halfback unless ravs gets injured. even that would be a guarantee with cleary favouring other guys like fien, witt and ropati.

why would the warriors resign him anyway?? why pay a 6-figure salary for a "fill-in" player??

im a huge fan of lance hohaia but i hope this rumour isnt true.

Let's not jump the gun about this yet. It is a rumor and until word is out officially we'll treat it as such.

I think there are pros and cons with decision and it really depends on what those are.

I hope lance signs with another club, I really think he has the goods to be a world class 6 or 7 with some guidence and support. With the full backing of a club and confidence he would easily be better than a marshall and anasta etc type players. Maybe not a johns or a lockyer or jones but the next class down. He should have left the warriors in 03.......

Mannering has lost his pace?

If that's true, it's only because he's been dicked around by the coaching staff. A young kid like that doesnt just "lose his pace". You can only train it out of him by trying to turn him into a workhorse...

Im going to have to go ahead an agree with Kav here. Signing Hohaia may not be the smartest move for either the Warriors or Lance. Keeping Lance in the squad and possibly not looking outside for another centre may not be the wisest move.

Keeping Lance at the club, and more than likely having him play centre, keeps guys like Start and Mika getting a run in the near future. I for one am disappointed in the potentcy of our backline and would like to have a look at both of these guys before the end of the season.

Lance is always going to be behind JRo, Rovelli and Witt in the halves and Fein and Gatis at hooker. For mine it only looks like Lance will get starts in the centres and a bench spot if one of Gatis or Fein picks up an injury.

Currently Im totally unimpressed by Mannering, I certainly dont rate his impact in the 2nd row and Im unconvinced of his ability to break the line or make room for his winger from playing in the centres. I dont think he is the superstar waiting in the wings alot of people seem to think he is.

Having Martin, Mannering and Hohaia as our centres certainly doesnt bode well for the possibility of buying a centre from another club or bringing one of the lions boys through.

What was one of the main features from our campaigns in 2001 and 2002? An exciting centre / 2nd Row / Wing combination that tore shreads out of the opposition D everytime they go the ball. For mine a combo of Martin, Mannering and Byrne just aint goint to do that. I don't see that impact in the backline in our current FG squad.

So for me the best idea would be to start blooding some of these young centres from the lions when we get the opportunity, next time one of regular centres gets injured or suspended dont fill a gap with someone within the FG squad. Lets have a look at one of our young up and commers.

Mannering hasn't lost his pace - Thats a stupid comment !!!

I don't like guys switching from the forwards to the backs. It is likely that, in improving their strength, they lose a bit of pace. Simon is a big guy and certainly looked sluggish against the Sharks. I hope it was a temporary thing and he shows a clean pair of heels against the Knights.

I agree that it might not be in Lance's best interests to stay with the Club. So either they have something specific in mind for him or the money was good.

It is way to early to speculate on the team structure for next year just on his resigning alone. I wonder whether Martin, Gatis, Swann and Burn will be resigned? If they aren't then therein lies the answer as to speculation about beefing up the centres.

In my humble opinion if Rovelli was in any other team he would be goneski by now and it is interesting to note where Lance plays from set plays in the opposition red zone - he is the only one in the team that has a good pass of either foot and is stationed at 5/8.
