Player Konrad Hurrell

OMG

OMG

The thing is, that is never going to happen. His physiology is not compatible with the idealised Adonis shape.
I think physiology plays a huge part in what we see from Kon, he expends a tremendous amount of energy In his hit ups..
He sort of reminds me of the bodybuilder types you see that try to play, they are all good for 10 or so minutes, then the energy drains, hands on hips and now useless to the team..lol
Even at the end of last season Kon would be blowing hard early.
You just have to look at him to see a lazy trainer, good role models and good advice help overcome this.
I do like that McDaddy is trying to change Kons mindset, but it does upset me when reading team namings lately..

About his over-eating on his summer breaks. We have to accept that there are cultural and biological reasons for this which compound the problem. I believe that amongst his people, he would be offered food by everyone he visited and to refuse would be a big slight on his hosts. Konrad would have been growing up with this - it would be instilled in him from childhood. Couple this with the fact that most Islanders put on weight very easily.

It's just as with Maori. Big feasts are big things for Maori and to refuse is something you just don't do. I've heard that many Maori personages have a problem dealing with this. Politicians, for example. Glad-handing tours ("fact-finding missions") are always accompanied by food, wherever they go, and again, to refuse is a rudeness.
.

Oh ffs!

If 25 other first graders of mostly islander and Maori descent can come back from pre season without looking like a bus then so can one other lazy prick.

Hurrell doesn't need excuses, just a boot up the arse now and then.

But we did have the same issue with Feleti and Ngani, so perhaps the club is not being strict enough at how well the players must maintain themselves in the off-season.

I wasn't giving excuses. As with so many things, look deeper and you find a whole heap of causal factors. If you want to criticise my post, why don't you try to repudiate any one of the many factors that I've set out instead of just going off.

Feleti's was injury driven I believe, and no doubt Laumape suffered the same fat boy lapses as Konnie which for mine has nothing to do about cultural bloodlines but more to do with laziness and immaturity......and this club definitely needs to be more strict with players, and encouragingly we've already seen signs of McFadden instiling this.

I did repudiate.

98 percent of a largely pacific island and Maori based club came back from their break ready to go.

Yep, I am aware of Mateo's injury, but its also not the first time he has put on excessive weight. Similar weakness and drive issues to Konrad, me thinks. Perhaps they see it as someone else's problem to correct?

Ngani I was quite shocked to hear about. He looked good in the Nines, and has always seemed to be very motivated and clear-headed. Hoping he is not going to be a repeat offender, but the other 2 have both shown it is in them to repeat this.

Xfactor

Meninga 2.0

We must keep, train and use this man.
I don't believe there is anyone on this forum that for a moment thinks the club would want him to leave.

The concern, if i'm reading it right, is that his money-hungry manager may suggest it to Konnie if his periodic relegation to reserve grade should appear to lessen his market value.

Yeah bang on, we do need him to sort out his attitude though because if he just gets it then he could as you say become one of the greatest centres in history. When I was first watching him in the juniors his destructive running game and his good passing game I was telling my friends he was the next Mal Meninga haha thats what I honestly believed and he certainly hasn't disappointed when you talk about - offensively at least - his ability to step up to NRL level. This is a guy we need to hang onto for the next decade. This would be worse than when Ali left, far worse because we at least had Ali at his best......Konnies best is yet to come.

I haven't seen anything from him yet to say that he actually has anything between the ears. Prodigious natural talent, yes but I'm not sure how to coa
There were days during the 2012 preseason where Bluey McClennan would have them run around and send them home before lunch. He didnt whip them like most coaches who have a clue about the NRL would and do. While most the other players went home you had a small handful like Elijah Taylor and Ben Henry staying behind and doing extras. Blueys lack of preseason had a direct bearing on the horror injury toll he had to put up with. The lack of strength and conditioning ill prepared the boys for the rigors of the NRLs long season.

This is the very system that Konrad Hurrell entered the 1st Grade under. Its a system that would have suited his lazy personality to a T and would have had a damaging impact on his progress and development.

That being said its not an excuse and Konnie is finally being called to account by a coach who isnt going to be blinded, like some fans, to his laziness. The biggest problem I think he has is that he is mentally weak and lacks the will to stop eating, rooting and fucking around at training. It cracks me up that some of the biggest critics of the 'Warriors Culture' and the need to change it are now making piss poor arguments in defence of Konnie's culture of laziness.

He's has the POTENTIAL to be a great player but he hasnt arrived there yet. If he doesnt change then he wont be worth the poison his laziness and poor training ethic will have on the rest of the team.

No one player is bigger than the team...

I'm not sure tbh that he can change. From what we've seen so far, I don't think there's too much between his ears. I like the guy and think he's a prodigious talent but gee whiz it's taking a long time for him to get the message.

Everyone is capable of change but some dont learn until its too late. Just needs a real wake up call. What triggers that is anyones guess but lets hope its not getting booted by the club and country he loves as there'll be no winners in that scenario bar another NRL team.

Club needs to get his mum over. Powerful motivator for Poly brothers...

like ive written countless times before , Hurrell needs a good mentor

i will not support this club if we lose him

I thought benry went well on friday. The whole team did well, and of course got the two points. Ultimately its up to Konrad what he chooses to do with his talent, his spare time , opportunity etc. I thought it was weird that the mbership guy was ushering them around after the game. If the club isnt strict enough then they should be - they pay the wages. What will motivate Konrad? I dont know, combination of things i guess. I know what would motivate me, seeing the team winning without me. Once that happens if it ever does then the argument is void anyway - we wont mind whos got the bloody jumper on.

can us as fans just feel lucky and honored , Konnie has blessed us with all these smashingly good runs up the guts so far in his young career . 70% sure he would have ended up in the Blues team , making fun of Nonu & Weepus singing abilities and making in roads towards a future all blacks career
im still pissed off the warriors didn't sign Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
and let Hiku go

Maybe if we signed those two we'd be having the same conversations about them? Why did we let Hurrell go and Sign Roger Tuivasa-Sheck when Hurrell is awesome and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is a lazy prick.

Or maybe Roger Tuivasa-Sheck signed with a Sydney club because he knew full well what goes on at the Warriors, and Hurrell loves that he can eat pies whenever he wants and nothing happens.

But none of those two situations make any sense. Hurrell is getting punished and is still fucking shit up for himself.

As for feeling honored by Hurrells presence in the team? I'm not so sure a lazy, over-eater is someone I look to for inspiration. But maybe I'm seeing the world differently to you?:hungover:

Where exactly did i say laughing after the game was a problem?

The Warriors have been a dumb, weak minded team for the vast majority of their history, it shows in the results and manner in which those results came about...they have a well earned and deserved reputation of being soft when the pressure rises...i believe that comes from the training paddock, if training is treated like a catch up joke session with your bro's, where does the intensity, professionalism and expectation of excellence come from.

Well I read back slapping and joking, referring

So if my post wasnt accurate to you.....there is enough posters that it does apply to.

How do you know how they train? Also McFadden has just started so see how he goes.
3 games = all three games so far there has been massive effort.

No two ways about it I'm a huge Konrad Hurrell fan, always have been and always will be.

I know Konrad has his detractors and critics and is the butt of many pie eating or fat jokes but sometimes I think it's not warranted and way over the top but that's just my opinion people can say what the hell they like each to their own.

The only thing I can think of that I dislike is his reading of the defense he gets caught in two minds whether it's sliding, compressed or scrambling he has issues and can be a liability but half the farkin team are defensive liabilities, to use that as the sole issue against him is ludicrous and is the cop out excuse.

The comparisons with Konnie and Meninga are totally unfair and put unnecessary pressure on him, the only comparisons I see are the offensive game, linebreaking ability, big easter island heads and thunder thighs but their worlds apart in terms of league nous.

Mal Meninga was the complete package, a truly gifted specimen had all the key components of a great, hardness, physical, calm and composed, calculating, inspiring, powerful, intimidating, presence, stamina , goalkicker, try scorer, captain, the works you name it, Konrad is nowhere near Meninga's greatness and probably never will be, also totally different backgrounds and upbringings.

As a player not many opponents targetted Mal offensively or defensively he was a massive force he could really hurt people either way so when Konnie reaches anywhere near that level of intimidation he will be well on his way to becoming a great and I have huge confidence he will achieve big things by the end of his career

A person of Konrad's thickness and bulk should be dominating in defense but he doesn't have that desire to rip in and hurt people if he did we wouldn't have much to complain about but it's always going to be a work in progress, he needs to learn attitude and anger because it's not natural to him to be angry but with time and experience he will become better at reading the opposition defensively, that is his major weakness it's no secret.

A couple of examples who I can think of who were absolutely terrific offensive weapons when they first came into first grade were Jennings and Hodges they were both unbelievable attackers but wouldn't tackle a fly in their early days, over time they have become defensively sound but they were horrific at first, Konrad has those same traits, brilliant attack but a liability on defense, it can be worked on but it's a long process and can only be learnt with time, both those players had trouble holding down spots when they first came into first grade too.

Let's think of Konnies strengths, he's an attacking weapon probably the most fearsome attacking centre in our history, line breaker, match winner, he loves the offensive physicality and chance to hurt opponents by bumping at weak shoulders, his ball control is sublime and there's hardly ever any loose carries, he's solid in that department no doubt.

Konrad's distribution game is a work in progress but the evidence is there to suggest long term he will be a master at that art, he gave a glimpse of his potential setting Fisiiahi away for a few tries in Welly against the Tigers, pure class and another weapon to add to his running game, the only blight is still that defense.

Konnie to me seems your stereotypical happy go lucky island boy, never wired or amped just a free spirit who would rather hang with mates and chill and that's all good,it's knowing when to flick that switch from casual to business, at home with friends and family social network go for your life at training and game day nothing but full concentration and dedication, out with instagram and smiles, in with intensity and focus , after the game it's back to happy chappys whatevers

I would take away all the grand expectations we have of him because he's never going to be a pearl Renouf or ferrari Ettingshausen he's a stocky big boned farkin Tongan boy with slow metabolism brought up on the island diet and lifestyle ,all the pro supplements and advice in the world can't break habits of a lifetime, most maoris and pacific islanders gain 10 to 20 pounds around new years and christmas you try saying no thanks to your village chief or kaumatua when they offer you food, that would be the most disrespectful thing you could do and could lead to a beheading so best he avoids those traditional gatherings and head to subway instead

Warriors recruitment should be proud they invested in an unknown youngster from union who could potentially go on to be one of our best ever players if we persevere and dedicate time to him, Konrad is still maturing and developing he's the type of player you build a club around not dispose of because of shortcomings, he's one of the best talents we've had come through our system to lose him would be a disgusting day in Warriors history.

For me I would never consider releasing or trading Konrad under any circumstances, as many have mentioned all that would do is open ourselves up to him coming back and destroying us year after year, I want him to reach his full potential here not at another club, I would sign him to a long term contract and get specialist coaches in to help him in areas he needs improvement I would never release him on the perception he's just a bad defender or lazy, that's fixable.

Thats rubbish and theres nothing stopping him from having a little feed. Most men stand outside anyway and let the women, children and elders sit down and eat. Heard this excuse used a few times already on this thread. Unless you know something about Tongan culture that I dont then please stop.

Theres also nothing wrong with eating. Its the not training bit that really did it. Overeating and not training. All attitude.

The guy is mentally weak. Thats the real issue. Like when he was told not to eat carbs at night and got caught by the nutritionist ordering donuts after a game on room service. Told her to get fucked and she ended up in tears. The guy is mentally weak...

Yeah I meant that hypothetically not literally..as if, and more along the lines of traditional disrespect of turning down food back in the old days, of course you'll be charged with murder in the real world now days.

Mentally weak, who gives a shit heaps of these mugs are, on the field he's physically tough and that's where it matters, unlucky for the lady who got disrespected but that's like Mannering telling Bluey to get fucked, attitude seems to be shithouse all over the club.
