The Vodafone Warriors have added more size to their 2021 NRL roster by signing giant Parramatta Eels prop Kane Evans, one of the tallest players in the competition.

Boasting 108 NRL appearances for the Sydney Roosters and the Eels, the 199cm, 110kg Evans (28) has been secured on a two-year deal to the end of the 2022 season.

His acquisition further boosts the club’s stocks of big forwards for next season following the signing of Mate Ma’a Tonga international Ben Murdoch-Masila from Warrington while Canberra’s Jack Murchie joined the Vodafone Warriors in May.

“Kane is a really important signing for us as he brings the size, leg speed and aggression that we are looking to add to our pack,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“With Ben Murdoch-Masila coming, the rise of young Eliesa Katoa, Jack Murchie joining us and now Kane it dramatically changes the dynamics of the squad.

“Kane always played in winning teams during his junior days and he brings that winning culture with him.

“Through his time at the Roosters and Parramatta he knows what this looks like and this was an ingredient we were keen to add to our squad.

“He is also a fantastic team man who can galvanise teams with a sense of fun and he engenders great enthusiasm into a group.”

Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George, while acknowledging Evans’ playing credentials, was equally impressed with his character.

“We couldn’t have been more impressed with Kane in our Zoom meeting,” he said.

“He displays all the qualities we are looking for and you could see the excitement in his eyes and hear the passion in his voice.

After excelling for the Roosters in the National Youth Competition, he represented the New South Wales Under-20s and the Junior Kangaroos in 2012 before making Fiji’s squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Evans debuted at NRL level for the Roosters early in 2014 and went to play 74 first-grade games for the club before signing with Parramatta for the 2018 season.

He has made seven appearances for the Eels so far this season, scoring one of their two tries in their 14-12 win over the Sharks on Sunday.

I had a chat with Denan Kemp at his bar that he used to own here in the Gold Coast and he basically had no feelings for the club as soon as he left and went straight back to supporting the Broncos once he had retired.

Was against his signing due to his racist slur to Joe Vuna a few years back in a Vulcans game that showed his character. His whole career has been constant stupidity. I'd hate to see Bunty leave to keep him.

May as well keep Evans around as cover though considering we're paying the bill for another year. Let him earn his way back into 1st grade through Redcliffe. Unless another club wants to buy out his contract which is highly unlikely.

He had good things to say about the Warriors when he interviewed Shaun Johnson. Signing for us shortened his career but he acknowledged that he physically wasn't up to it anyway. He didn't do too badly for soccer junior IMO.

I thought the same when I watched the Shaun Johnson interview (because I was surprised that the negative playing experience here didn't seem to cloud him), and then the next interview I watched he laughed at the club and the country with the other guest (can't remember who it was). Basically Auckland is a shit hole and he couldn't wait to get out of here.

I was pretty surprised at how positively Sam Tomkins is when he looks back on his time here. The guy seems to have a pretty pragmatic outlook on life.

Ayshford is still paid to support the club, but he did give his all on the field. He seems to have settled ala Brent Webb.

I don't care how well Evans plays in reserve grade, he is a ticking time bomb and his immaturity will cost the club games. If they can't get rid of him, I am in the pay him out boat. I don't want him around the other players.

Makes sense, I thought he was just full of regret but I guess if you perform shit somewhere you'd have a poor outlook on that place so fair enough. He made enough money from a lackluster career to kick off his businesses anyway. Evans can fuck off if we don't have to pay 500K to get rid of him. He can't blame Auckland either.

We all know what the term again means so was the first time when he was playing at the Eels as the only folding of c... I've seen him doing in a Warriors jersey is when he folded that strapping tape around his wrist

By the rules maybe but this is the NRL. The club will find it near impossible to shop him to another NRL club now
