Joe's is still involved in the heavy equipment industry but now works for Trow which specialise in deconstruction which is essentially demolition with a heavy emphasis on recycling.
Former New Zealand Warrior and Kiwi league legend, Joe Vagana, is the Operations Manager and Partner at TROW Group.
Joe manages the day-to-day operations across the entire TROW organisation and heads Health and Safety critical for all our people and projects.
He is responsible also for HR and TROW’s various work programmes. As a coach and mentor, Joe is passionate about creating pathway opportunities for young Pasifika and Māori through self-confidence, tool skills, training and employment.
Joe brings strong commercial skills from his experience as founder and director of Hire Connect machine leasing, a sister business of TROW Group which Joe had the opportunity to become involved with when it was being established at the same time as TROW in 2013. Joe built up the Hire Connect business with effective strategic planning, client relations and business development, before moving on to TROW.
In 2008, Joe founded not-for-profit charitable trust, ‘REACHES Youth Mentoring Trust.’ The trust came about from his passion for mentoring youth and assisting them on their pathways, teaching disciplines such as attitude, hard work, commitment and self-belief. It was founded after he retired from rugby league and returned to New Zealand.
Joe’s professional rugby league career spanned over 14 years, playing over 350 1st grade games for both the (formerly known as) Auckland Warriors in the Australian competition, and the Bradford Bulls in the English Super League Competition. Joe Also represented both Samoa and the New Zealand Kiwis in the 1995 and 2000 Rugby League World Cups, respectively.
Joe and Saia have learnt a lot along this journey and they both share similar beliefs and a vision for making TROW Group a success for the communities it supports.

Former Kiwi player Joe Vagana is part of a team taking on international construction giants with his company Trow Group.
The civil contracting and machinery hire company manages million dollar projects across the Auckland and Waikato region.
However, the success of the Ōtāhuhu-based company is only a small part of the story of Vagana and his business partner, Saia Latu.

The West Auckland locals have committed to making a difference to their community, with a positive reach that extends into Tonga.
As finalists in the NZI Sustainable Business Awards, the company works to salvage and reuse or recycle material from their building sites to be used in schools, community centres and churches in New Zealand and the Pacific.
Traditionally, waste from construction accounts for 40 per cent of waste to landfills.
Latu, Vagana and their team go into sites and salvage materials that then go to community organisations.
They also have a hiring policy to encourage more inclusive employment.
But they want to be clear, Trow Group is not here to give a hand-out.
It's simply good business to have a social outcome, said Latu.
Trow grew out of the realisation that, despite the billions being spent the Waikato Expressway, most of the workers were coming from outside of Huntly.
"Almost all the workers involved in the Huntley project were from outside of Huntly.
"So we worked with Tainui and trained locals for long term employment," Latu said.
"We try and transition high needs people into employment."
Latu said the goal was a job ratio of $25,000 to one. Which means, for every $25,000 spent on the job, they aim to employ one person.
Vagana, who had been playing league in England, knew he wanted to make a difference when he returned to New Zealand.
"Helping people to reach goals, not do it for them but help them get there, thats rewarding for us," he said.
The men tell new employees sweeping the factory that the goal is to have the recruits own their own business.
"Some of them get inspired, you can see it in their faces," said Vagana.
"So we are a commercial company, with a strong sense of support for the community."

Feel he could have offered so much more to the Warriors over a lot longer period. Massive unit with a great career in the UK post Warriors.

Yeah Joe was pushed out for trying to stick up for himself and the boys. When Eric Watson bought the team he didnt actually buy the team but the NRL licence to operate one. So everyone from the players to the staff to the vendors and suppliers were left out of pocket. All players were invited to re-sign with the new club but at reduced salaries. They all held out for a while but word it it was Stacey Jones who folded first and being the main man everyone else gave in after that. Joe was identified as the ring leader and shown the door.
I was talking with Nigel Vagana and he said that Joe had no option but to go to Super League as the NRL held a contract for 4 years with him to the Warriors and it was either sign there or nowhere. Pretty tough treatment but you understand from the organisations perspective that they needed a viable club here and didnt want to see a mass exodus...
