General Jesse Royal

The fact is were going to have a high quality pack right from the word go. If anyone drops in form for a week or two they will be benched straight away. I just hope our expectations arn't more than the team can produce.

We'll have 4 experienced 1st grade props and 4 more props between 19 and 22, it's a good mix and takes some of the burden off Price now that Ruben won't be on the field. This year's just looking better and better.

Our forward pack (on paper) shits on most others, especially when you factor in our depth.

Guys we have a real signing here. Future kiwi for sure. I remember this awesome 50 metre try he scored for the knights last year. Jessie Royal is a future kiwi.

Great low risk / high reward signing...cant believe he was still out there.i would have him on the bench instead of Evarn

already got images of McKinnon running off Royal with those sweet offloads

My dad was Royals supervisor when he was in the Army, he was stoked to hear the news!

A lot of people are talking about Jesse Royal as a youngster. Comments like him being around for several years, or that he's a future Kiwi? Possible, but remember that he's almost 29 as it is.

His late bloomer status has a good reason, though. He had a career in the military, which mean's he's disciplined, and not prone to doing dumb stuff on or off the field.

The Knights fans were furious at their club for not re-signing Royal, and I for one am extremely pleased that he has joined us.

I think age is still on his side as a prop he still has maybe even another 4 years in him. Hopefully all of those are at the warriors.

That's a fair cop, Esoj, looking at the likes of Price, Wiki, and Civoniceva. The other benefit in his favour is that he's done a lot less laps than others his age, so that should help his longevity.

I'm stoked with this signing, last year Evarn was a bit of passenger, he will have to step up if he wants to play this year.

Great Signing
I could not believe the Knights resigned him to the coalmines instead of resigning him.
He is better than any of their remaining props Cross,Tolar,Wicks etc
Great off load and strong hitter and for a time was one of the form players in the NRL last year
Comes straight on to our bench for me when fit.

Just got home, and this is awesome news to read!

Royal is a quality player with lots of potential. He'll add to the depth of the team which is awesome.

Our roster for '09 is impressive!

Great signing. Big lad with good footwork and balance and a terrific offload. Adds some nice variety to our front row stocks.

Does this mean the Warriors are now more likely to release Lauaki

I would say so. He did do some fairly good things against the Storm, but he gave away a few too many penalties.

That's the problem with having too much depth. The reality is, not everyone can play, and more often than not, those that aren't playing are gonna want to move else where

I'd actually prefer royal over ervan, his work rate is higher and offers more on attack, his ability to offload like a madman is going to put Wade over the all season long!
JB is it possible to post stats of Tuimavave and Royal? It would be an interesting comparison.

Just had a look at his 2008 stats... he's right up there in tackles, runs, metres and offloads, and really low on missed tackles... not that the stats surprised me. Good signing, I figured we were short one prop at least for one or two years. I was expecting to see Lauaki make a return, but that's looking unlikely.
