Don't u think that the fact that pearce is a solid defender will mean Maloney gets even more traffic heading his way? Playing the warriors last year teams could take their pick who to target- Shaun Johnson, Maloney, hurrell, vatuvei.
The thing I will miss about maloney is that big boot of his
True but the advantage of having that strong defensive half is they can surround maloney with the strongest defenders and still trust the other edge to do its job.

here we have about 4 people who could tackle

I'm looking forward to seeing how many penalties he can amass with the new focus on the ruck - on the other hand that focus might be enough to get it out of his game.

We are going to miss Maloneys best qualities. He setup alot of tries and had a great running game. Sadly with all the tackles he missed his departure was abit of a relief. Even watching the game against the Tigers he was still pathetic on defence. He may target Manu/Shaun Johnson or Hurrell when he plays us knowing our weak points but the whole NRL will be targeting him as he is a complete weak point. Hope the Roosters assign him their 2 best defenders. One on either side and probably the fullback to stand right behind him...

Maloney will be better defensively this year, he wasn't confident with people running at his left shoulder, Maloney isn't actually a bad tackler and always puts the body on the line, although he is a bad defender on the right and can position himself badly from trying to set up his right shoulder for the tackle, Mannering does the same thing on the right.

I really think he is going to be the warriors biggest loss for a long time. good sign for the blues tho!
He will be more than missed but last season when he knew he was going he gave up on the Warriors. So in my opinion the Roosters can have him. We have plenty of our own talent now.

For our particular needs, I would take Thomas Leuluai over James Maloney any day. God it was nice seeing a half completing tackles and even smashing forwards. TL is no attacking chump, either. I expect him to prove a fantastic buy for us over the course of this season.

I hope Maloney goes well for the Roosters, though.

So do I. I enjoyed watching him play and thought he definitely improved our side. Sure he did things that infuriated me, but the pro's definitely outweighed the con's from my perspective.

Something I have been thinking: Maloney may have been less of a liability in our 2013 team, containing defensive juggernauts like Lowrie and Nielsen.
Simon Mannering was effectively babysitting Hurrell, Tupou and Maloney on defence. Poor bastard.

I'll miss Maloney's massive boot. He produced an eighty metre drop kick on the weekend. Support play was top notch. Also his goal kicking, although even that turned to shit last season. But like you say, for our particular needs we need a organiser. A defensive half who can tackle. And while Maloney may fit in at the Roosters. Thomas i suspect will give us what we need (A hard solid player). Instead of what we want (A flashy finishing type player).

I don't care about origin. Anyway if he makes the blues I'll eat my hat
So you don't watch origin? You are really missing out.

If the Roosters have a strong season he will be in with a chance *should injury strike the right players*; he's been a fringer a couple of times in the past. It's a long shot of course, but I'd love to see James in a Blues jersey one day. I've always been a big fan of his mini-half aggression, despite his shit form last season.
