I had to sign up to reply to this!

I am so utterly relieved that Maloney moved on from the Warriors. No one man is to blame for the defensive deficiencies of last year, but Maloney's defence was useless - hence why the Blues wouldn't look at him in the end. No matter how good a player is on attack, I don't want him in a team I follow if he can't defend.

Pretty sure the main role of a halfback is to attack...there are plenty of rubbish defenders in that position...lockyer for example was bloody terrible yet one of the games great.... and no I am not comparing the 2 players but showing you an example of average defence doesn't make you a bad player. It is just as stupid as wanting every one of your players to have strong attacking ability which we definitely do not have

Maloney caused a lot of problems for our right edge defense last season, and for my blood pressure with his idiotic ruck penalties. He has plenty of pluses about his game, but the minuses were too much, particularly when there are too many other players in the team with defensive frailties.

Welcome aboard.

My lord those ruck penalties used to drive me insane. He was so blatant about it too, there was no subtlety to it, just lying all over them for waaay too long.

It will be interesting to see how he responds to a Matulino bone-crusher or a Rapira rib-cracker!

He'll target Shaun Johnson, Tupou, Konrad and Manu all day long knowing that they either can't/wont tackle or are easily confused and wrong-footed.

While Manus D was much better last night, Maranta was left un-marked too many times. Jimmy knows how to draw Manu out of position. Manu has one of the best defending centres in the game inside him now! He HAS to learn to trust him to do his job.

Round 2 will be a massive test for the Warriors, and in my very simple opinion, could define our season.

Yeah, something like 138 missed and ineffective tackles which was the highest in the comp last year......yet the Roosters were determined to get him anyhow.

Jimmy is responsible for some of the biggest tackles made in a Warriors jersey and his missed tackle stats from last year could have been a result of deciding 1) "if nobody else in this team gives a fuck, why should I" and 2)" I'm outta here in a couple of months...meh" Who really knows?

But you're right....send the big boys straight at/over him and wait for the penalties to come.

Well, the Roosters signed him before our 2012 season had started and in 2011 Maloney's positives far outweighed his negatives.

I also think he did give a fuck when it came to us winning. Even if it was for no other reason than to make the NSW team, Maloney never really looked like he gave up. Otherwise he wouldn't have missed as many tackles rushing up out of the defensive line.

I was a Maloney fan. He did far more good than bad, but there is a belief held by many that he left before 2012. I completely disagree!

He did most of the yelling last year, and often looked the most disappointed/pissed-off at the level of amateurism being displayed by our team.

My suggestion was more that at some point last year he possibly thought to himself "this ship is sinking and I aint the Captain" or something to that effect.

That's pure speculation of course, but who could blame him if he did?

Yeah, at one of the games I went to last year they had Maloney playing in the halves and running back to fullback on defence when our fullback was injured. He was working his ass off. There were so many holes in our backline throughout the season its hard to just blame one person. Our forwards were ineffective and our backs were inept.

Yea there are players out there that pefer a winning team over anything else and i think maloney is one of them. A quality player who wants similar players around him in which he will have at the roosters. end of the day we do some really average/solid players which frustrate players like maloney when he gives them chances. can you imangine not even being able to try the crossfield kick on attack cause your wingers and centres can't catch

Maloney - who's he?

I'd rather concentrate on people who are with us to be honest.

He played well. Im surprised they re-sign Pearce TBH. I think Maloney will out play him by quite a long way.

That's what used to make me laugh tho- sure he would be behind the posts yelling at everyone but half the time it was his missed tackle or silly penalty that put us in the position in the first place.

I think Pearce is a far better all round player than Maloney, and is a much better player than Australian fans give him credit for....give Pearce the likes of Slater and Smith to play alongside him like Cronk and Thurston have had in club or rep footy, and he would be looked at in a whole different light.

Pearce goes missing when it matters.

Pearce goes missing like all halves do when his team aren't going forward, or they're dropping the ball every second set....a halfbacks success is directly related to the quality of team around him, unless you're a freak like A.Johns, and as good of a player as Pearce is, he's not in that class.

Can't argue with that Defence.

All I know is, he earnt my respect and admiration despite the points you make.

That's not to say I didn't call him an idiot from time to time. ;)

We are going to miss Maloneys best qualities. He setup alot of tries and had a great running game. Sadly with all the tackles he missed his departure was abit of a relief. Even watching the game against the Tigers he was still pathetic on defence. He may target Manu/Shaun Johnson or Hurrell when he plays us knowing our weak points but the whole NRL will be targeting him as he is a complete weak point. Hope the Roosters assign him their 2 best defenders. One on either side and probably the fullback to stand right behind him...

i dont think it will be so bad for him at the roosters. Here he had to play inside weak defenders and on the other side of the field we had another weak defensive half in Johnson. I dont know what the outside backs are like at the roosters but Pearse is a very good defender so they will have at least one strong defensive edge.

I saw a review earlier which showed us as being one of the worst teams both sides of the field last year.

Don't u think that the fact that pearce is a solid defender will mean Maloney gets even more traffic heading his way? Playing the warriors last year teams could take their pick who to target- Shaun Johnson, Maloney, hurrell, vatuvei.
The thing I will miss about maloney is that big boot of his
