I’m impressed Jacob.

Just don’t fall into the trap thinking it’s all about size. When you play with the big boys your size advantage is wiped out.

Work on your communication, awareness of the game, teamwork, passing and tackling and you’ll be a future star no doubt.

Is Jacob Ken Laban's boy? He's certainly heading in the right direction

Both Jacob Laban and Fa'aloloto (Loto) Va are bit similar players but Loto is a hitman, hitting hard and heavy work in defence on the middle of the field usually also he doesn’t leave his Sid. Apparently Loto hasn't had much time on the field for Awa Maori and Orcas this year, he wasn't EVEN injured cause some players been taking his spot due to bad coaching or lack of any coaching so that's why both teams been falling apart when he's off or on the bench, poor him. He should've started with Jacob and Jordan like last year at NZMRL Teina Tournament. Him, Jacob and Jordan are the best defensive combo in the game lol

any relation to Ken Laban who was a pretty mean league player himself ?

Paul Whatuira , wasn’t a success with the Warriors. Yes, left early to persue other opps

Charlie Gubb was okay.

Matulino and Mannering were very good.

Who else has come from Wgtn?

you calling Whatuira a dud? really?

Yes, agree he wasn’t a standout at the Warriors but he is a 2X premiership winning center and Kiwi rep. Not many kiwis can say that.

Plus I really enjoyed watching him back in the day....
Not at all. But he wasn’t a great stand out for the Warriors. Played really well when over in Aussie.

Two 16 year olds doing preseason training with first grade:
Tea-Rani Woodman-Tuhoro and Jacob Laban

Both part of the under 19 / SG Ball squad for 2021.
One of those 16 year olds is leading the charge at preseason. The running parts of it anyway. Still pretty impressive...

17 year old Jacob Laban just signed for 3 years

Warriors sign talented youngsters Zyon Maiuu, Jacob Laban to help secure club's future

17:16, Apr 29 2021

The Warriors have secured two of New Zealand’s hottest young prospects Zyon Maiuu and Jacob Laban on three-year contracts to add more quality to the club’s playing depth for the future.

The 17-year-old Kelston Boys’ High School students are regarded by Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan as New Zealand’s best young second rowers.

“We are very excited to lock up Zyon and Jacob for the next three years,” O’Sullivan said.

“Both boys complement each other beautifully, Zyon with his competitiveness, skill and toughness and ability to play edge and middle equally as well as the other while Jacob is a gifted, athletic edge back rower with a huge motor.”

Laban, a Randwick Kingfishers junior, moved to Auckland from Wellington this year to complete his year 13 studies and prepare for the next step of his rugby league career with the Warriors.

“Both boys live together as we wanted a good family home for Jacob and can’t thank Paula and Tooma (Zyon’s mum and dad) enough for taking Jacob in and giving him a great environment to live in,” said O’Sullivan.

“They are thriving and pushing each other in their training, playing and general life skills. It’s also a great story for Kelston Boys’ High School and our working relationship with the school.

“Both boys made a huge impression on the staff when they joined the New Zealand-based top squad in the preseason last year.

“They both looked very much at home and despite their age mixed it with the big boys.

“I can’t wait for them to join the top squad in November and get their NRL dreams into action as I have no doubt the boys will go on and become Warriors in the next few years.”

Laban, who attended St Bernard’s College before moving to Auckland, was named College Sport Wellington’s rugby league player of the year in 2019. He was selected in the New Zealand Resident 16s squad last year.

Agree he’s certainly hard to handle in his age group, I’ll resist throwing around too many superlatives though until he starts doing what he’s able now to do against grown men.
Both him and Jacob were Training with the first grade side up until Xmas.
Jacob Laban was the 16 year old kid who blitzed everyone on the hills in preseason.
He’s the new sand dune king, which we all know translates to 200+ NRL games
