General Introduction Thread

My shameful, piss-poor excuse for being an Arsenal fan was that I was a wee nipper who's favourite colour was yellow. Which was the colour of Arsenal's away shirt - canary yellow. (Canary yellow?! That's Arsenal Gold, my friend and don't you fxxxin' forget it!) and which must have been the first football game I saw - Arsenal away to Whoever. Could have been the 1979 FA Cup Final, I'm not sure...

That sounds just like me and Liverpool. The first match I watched on TV was the 1989 FA Cup Final between a red team (Liverpool) and a blue team (Everton, the greatest enemy of all). My favourite colour was red, so when Liverpool won, I started supporting them.

Little did I know that my love for them would coincide with an end to the glory years, lol.

If you don't mind me asking, Blondie, what type of disability do you have, and how did you become disabled? (Or were you disabled from birth?)

Spina bifida. From birth. And hydocephalus which is a related condition to the Spina bifida.

Born and Bred in Christchurch. Married with 2 kids, 10 year old daughter and 3 year old son. Was a baker for 10 years but became allergic to flour. Supported the Bulldogs before the Warriors started, loved Ewen McGrady.

Now my days involve working in a Supermarket and then being a dad. Rest of my life is taken up with my love of all things Warriors and Dr Who.

Not in my 20's anymore, born in chch, lived in wellington (on and off) for almost 20 years.

Married with first kid on the way.

Worked in advertising and ecommerce industries since leaving uni & now the Marketing manager for a well-known company based in Welly.

Still play cricket and football.

I've already posted but I'll introduce myself anyway.
Born in Palmerston North, raised on a dairy farm, shifted to Tauranga and went to Otumoetai College then finally up to South Auckland.
Only ever played 'park' league but was an age group rep and senior club level hockey player back in the day.
Married with no children - some things even the docs can't fix ..... But we do have two 'stolen' cats who decided they'd rather live with us than next door.
Run my own business in the building industry.
Used to follow that other game but started to find it boring then one day watched a Winfield Cup game on a Friday night and got hooked. Used to follow the Steelers but can't stand St Merge. Then started to follow the Warriors as soon as I heard they'd signed Bell as captain .... may have changed my mind though if I knew more about Plait.
Been a season ticket holder for a number of years.
Best Warriors moment:
Two from the same game vs the Roosters semi, Pricey walking around the field during the Juniors game to a standing ovation and Wiki's charge.
Worst moment:
Sonny's passing RIP.
Funniest forum moment:
Facepalm/Factfacts spending days on VOT trying to convince us that the official name for the games played in Sept/Oct are not the 'finals' but all are known (only it seems by him and the NRL) as the 'semis' including the final game which was actually the Grand Semi, not the Grand Final. I have to say though, the guy was consistent and would not back down.

Hahaha, i remember that, I think i was remarking on our chances of making the "semi's" at the time, for some reason you latched onto that one word and went on and on
about it, even after i agree'd "semi's" wasn't the technical name for the finals series, but was infact a common enough term that is used when referring to the final series,
I wondered why i smiled every time i hear it used, thanks for reminding me.
but hey sometimes people need a win of some sort, especially when they're so used to losing, so good on ya Mick.

Anyway... I was born in Hastings, played yawnion at school but because of my size, was always put in the forwards, which i hated, so i quit.
Played rep softball and soccer as goalkeeper.
Lived in Aussie for about 10 years, got to go to all the big Warriors games in sydney, the Parra game when we first made the eight, semi's, grand final etc.
Married with two kids, living in Auckland.
Been a league fan since the Winfield cup hit our screens, first supporting Manly, then dropped their arses for the Warriors.

Born in Antrim, Northern Ireland. Emigrated to NZ in 1986 as a 12 year old having played mostly gaelic football and rugby union at school. Ended up at significant catholic school on the north shore of Auckland, where I played mostly soccer as NZ rugby was a damn sight more physical than what I was used to in Ireland. I was a smart ass and as such was ejected from this school in 1989, the end of 5th form. Ended up at another school on the shore, it was liberal and had no uniform and more importantly it had girls, basketball and rugby league.
At this school I captained the 1st XI soccer, played 2nd XI cricket and wing for the Premier 13 league team and also played Premier basketball,
I was a skinny kid, about 6'1 and 70kgs and so basketball took over. I quit league after a season of U18s for the Northcote Tigers, I played Auckland U19 soccer and quit that too as I made the North Harbour U18 basketball team in 92 along with a certain Sean Marks.

Basketball ran my life for the next decade and a bit. I played with and against most of the now famous NZ basketballers of the 1990s and 2000s, but lets be honest... I was shit.
I played all the age group rep teams, for university and NBL 2nd Div for Auckland, Harbour and Hibiscus Coast and ended up coaching the coast in the early 2000s but have long since retired from B'ball.

Sport was all I cared about, I even went back to playing league at Auckland Uni (one game against the Tuakau Black Power... frightening) and went back to Ireland and played some cricket and basketball in Belfast for a bit of money and coaching... pretty good fun.

Then I had nothing to do when I got back and decided to get into my other passions, film and theatre. I did a bachelor of performing and screen arts, majoring in film/theatre direction and ended up making several shorts that made festivals and won awards... but couldn't support my self on what I was earning so went to teachers college and am now the HOD of Media Studies at large secondary school.

Been an obsessive Warriors fan from day one... all my mates were union heads but i'm slowly bringing them around... I have an obsession with this club and am desperate to see a premiership, hence my sometimes overly emotional rants...

I wish I could have played professional league, it's a superb game... except i'm not 70kgs now and the front row is the only place I would fit in.

I have seen every game the warriors have played since their inception apart from the 2001/02 seasons where I was overseas... please let this be the year of the Warriors.

Interesting post, nice to read.

I to am obessed with this team and can't wait for our first premiership.

My house is like a Warriors SHRINE

From when you walk in you know your at the house of a loyal crazed fan.
Go the WARRIORS!

Extraordinary background, Dan.

At the risk of potentially revealing your identity, would you be prepared to mention your award-winning short films?

Also, do the 'pat' and 'mac' refer to your Irish heritage?

Rob here, born in Scotland, grew up in NZ. Season ticket holder, upper eastern stand near halfway; primo. Married with three girls who don't share my obsession with the Warriors.

I love to shout at the referees for therapy and also like beer (good call Blain).

I played lots of sports including League for Te Awamutu college in an inter-schools tournament one day, including against Church College which was up there with the most terrifying and satisfying experiences of my life.

I am going to watch my nephew play league for the first time tomorrow morning. He is around 8 and a right munter (in a good league way) so I really looking forward to it:D

I think it refers to his name. So yes to Irish heritage maybe?

Yeah mate, I'm Daniel Patrick Mc? haha...

My main short won the NZ Kodak Filmschool award in 2007 and went to the world comp as NZs entry. It has been in a festival in Derry back home along with the Belladonna Film Fest in Chch and the Golden Bay Short Fest. It was accepted into the homegrown works on film in 2007 at the international film fest here in AKL but had to be withdrawn due to issues with the producer which was disappointing.
To be honest it's not that good, and I find it embarrassing, but we are our own worst critics I guess.
I think u won the 2006 award, not 2007 mate ;)

Born and bred in Auckland, apart from a few years in the UK. I've followed RL since an early age as my father was involved in the game. I spent many years at Carlaw Park watching club games, Auckland's wins over international sides and the Kiwis too.
I played from about 8 years old until 18 when work (and social) caught up with me. Much to my fathers surprise (ok disgust) I actually enjoy both codes so around 24 years old I started playing again but ended up playing RU (senior club in Akld). Travelled overseas but made a 'promise' to wife that I would not play rugby (either code) whilst in the UK as she was not keen to become a 'rugby widow'. Strangely enough had a few offers to play whilst there including a decent RU 'offer' in France. RU was not pro then but perks such as car, 'job', apartment and $ were discussed.

I have two children , a boy and girl. Son playing RU for school now but has also played RL at Mt Albert and is eager to return again although enjoys playing with school mates and it is an honor too. I'm also involved with coaching his school team (one day they'll realise that I know stuff all about RU). There are a number of RL people involved in school rugby and yesterday I attended a 1st XV game and saw a number of 2nd generation boys playing with surnames such as Ropati (Peter's son) and Tatupu (Tony's son) as well as many others.

I've enjoyed various RL forums and are familiar with some of the older guys who post comments (Kav, Ian S, Skinner, NU etc). I've supported the Warriors since day 1 after having previously followed any team with Kiwis in them i.e. Norths, Cronulla, Balmain.

Good luck!

Xt here. Real name Rob.

Born in Greenford, Middlesex and brought up in Epsom, Surrey.

As a kid I played a lot of football (the game with a round ball....), and in the summer I did a lot of sprinting, mainly 100 & 200. Represented my county and also South East England in the 100 & 200. Joined the RAF aged 18 and spent 3 years in the force. Also played football for my camp and was top goal scorer 2 years in a row. Also represented the camp in the 100 & 200. We also came runners up in the 4x100 relay which was a great result for a little camp.

Left the RAF in 1991 and spent a few years in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Moved the Northampton in 1997 and was there until 2003 when I moved to NZ.

Live on the North Shore and was taken to my first Warriors game by my now wife in 2004. From then I was hooked! Had our first season tickets in 2009, didn't re-sign for 2010 & 2011 but did for this year.

My wife and I are shareholders in an insurance Broking company based in Albany and we have a beautiful 5 year old - last year o got my first and only tattoo, which is my daughters name.

Love the Warriors and love the debate us fans have. That's about it for now - oh, signed up to play over 35 football a few weeks ago, and in my second game I ruptured my Achilles. So now have 6-8 weeks in a cast. Not fun!!

Weird fact - I broke my ankle in 1999 and had in operated on. When they were drilling a hole to fit a 2nd screw, the drill bit broke and is still in my ankle :)

Born in 1845 to a wealthy family just outside of Walton-On-The-Nease, I am currently 142nd in line to Her Majesty's throne. I joined the military after Cambridge and led several African campaigns, including the subjecation of many local peoples (we can’t have these darkies thinking that they are our equal!)Was appointed governor of India in 1892 and have lived there with my three wives and numerous servants ever since. I was appointed an MBE in 1895 for my long service to the British class system, and for my being steadfastly behind the Rugby Union’s zero tolerance for professionalism – coal miners playing sport?? No thank you!!!

Hey everyone *waves*

My name is Eva and I am 23 years old, currently studying towards a BA in History. I've been a Warriors fan since I was about 11 [edit* I was actually 13 lol my bad], after my grandmother pulled us around the TV to see a relatives debut game for the Warriors. Since then, I've been hooked.

I grew up in Taranaki and moved to Wellington with my family when I was 12 years old. I spent many weekend evenings staying up 'late' to watch the Warriors games delayed. I've always enjoyed watching sports and played netball when I was younger. Originally I was all into Rugby and League was in the background, I pretty much ONLY watched the Warriors games but the more League I watched, the more I loved it and Rugby was pushed aside.

In 2006 (I think), the night after graduating high school (Naenae College), my family and I attended the Kiwis v Great Britain game for the Tri Nations. We had our faces painted and signs and wigs and everything. Since then, I've been to all the Kiwis games - aside from the Anzac test this year - that have been played in New Zealand. I've spent many early mornings on the couch watching the Kiwis and the Tri/Four Nations played in the UK. In 2009 my grandmother and I travelled to Rotorua to the Kiwis v Tonga game, where clumsy me managed to walk into Fuifui Moimoi while waiting for an elevator at the motel. I was star struck. 2010 I went to my first live Warriors game...they played Manly at Mt Smart and got hammered. That didn't worry me though, I'm a fan through and through. Also in 2010 my family and I went to the Wellington Kiwis v England game, the following weekend, we were in Rotorua watching the Kiwis take on PNG and then the weekend after that, we were at Eden Park watching England v PNG and the Kiwis v Kangaroos. Although we got smashed then, it was still an awesome game.

Last year, while on a roadtrip I was able to go to the Warriors v Raiders home game in Auckland. Once again an awesome experience and the boys won! Even better, that we were able to meet and talk to a few of the boys after the game. My sister had brought me a pink (fav colour lol) Warriors hat...my first Warriors memorabilia which is now covered in Warriors signatures. In October last year, we stopped off at Ngarawahia sports store and my sister brought me a Warriors steering wheel cover and some seatbelt pad things. We then spent 20 minutes in the car park pulling and stretching to get the steering wheel cover on. I rep it with pride. I'm hoping to make it up to Auckland a few times this year to a few home games and to get some more Warriors stuff...hoping to deck out the car with Warriors car seat covers and such (maybe an early Christmas pressie to myself haha).

I pretty much follow any and almost all sports. Rugby, League, Netball, Basketball, Tennis, pretty much whatever is on the sports channel (aside from Golf lol). My sleep pattern is often messed up depending on which sport I am watching. No kids as of yet, but when that happens I will be sure to share with them my passion for sport, specifically league.

Anyways, now that I've written this little novel, I've gotta say that I am looking forward to spending time on this forum and reppin the Warriors!!

Kia Ora.

For those of you that have yet to stalk me on Facebook...

I was born in Rotorua, but moved all around the North Island until going back there at age 8. Stuck around and gOt SuM mEaN education at Western Heights High School before buggering off to Hamilton where I currently reside.

I've recently recieved my BMA in Media Arts and am currently killing time in Hamilton as I learn the ins and outs of HTML5 and CSS3 in a class at Wintec. Once that's done I'm going to be applying for jobs in Auckland. I've got a mate at Federation Clothing, and he reckons a spot might open up, so that's the goal as of now.

Other than that I kill time writing, playing guitar and hanging out with the boys. I don't really follow any sports other than League and MMA. Uhhh...yeah that's about it. Oh, and I don't drink.

But yeah, that's me.
