I received the following from the City Mission today

Kia ora,

In the aftermath of the weekend’s flooding, with more bad weather on the horizon, I really do hope that you and your loved ones are safe and have had little disruption. If, like many in our city, you have been affected, my best wishes go to you for a recovery that’s swift.

The Mission team was on duty all weekend to help those needing immediate relief from the floods. Our emergency response will continue for the days to come as we support people with kai, clothing and housing.

As the torrential rain set in on Friday, our Outreach team was on the streets. They connected with people currently experiencing homelessness to make sure they had a dry space with enough clothes and kai to ride out the storm - and that they weren’t in danger. That care continued through the weekend, while at HomeGround our doors remained open for those needing a hot meal and dry place, while also making sure people we support in apartments were safe too.

This week, we will continue to provide parcels of food to those who need it most – both to families affected by the storm and those who, for other reasons, need support with kai. Over the weekend, we supplied some of our marae partners in South Auckland with clothing and this week will offer food as well. In whatever way we can help people through this difficult time, we will.

Our distribution centre was badly flooded in the storm and the team has been onsite over the weekend cleaning up. Although we’re so grateful for offers of food and household products at this time we can’t receive them because of the damage.

I am grateful for your support, enabling us to continue helping those who need it most in our city. If you have given recently, I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

As we head into further bad weather, I am thankful to have you by our side and I really do hope that you and your loved ones are not badly affected. If you are, or if you know of some who is, the Auckland Emergency Management website has full details of how to seek help, and if you need support from the Mission, please contact us on 0800 223 663.

My thanks and very best wishes to you.

Just caught up with this & have put in a little to help. There are a lot of folk doing it hard & this weather won't help.

Also want to say Dixpat, you, your wife, Taj & the people on this site are amazing. Good luck with the challenge

I signed up as a contributor, do I have to do something else or is that it?

I have also spoken to Dixpat and have his blessing so if you purchase a new contributor upgrade ($5 per month or $50 per year), that amount will be matched and double the amount will be donated from this site(via my business).

So $5 per month contribution will be doubled to $10, $50 yearly contribution will see $100 donated.

*offer till 25th March. I will cover any PayPal processing fees. No limits. Any chargebacks/refunds will result in raising my ire. Donate to a good cause, get double the amount donated in your name and get ad free experience etc on the site.

Please send me a quick pm if you do go via this route as I check the upgrades very sporadically.
Today we received a donation of $211 under the above from Tajhay because both Bluecat Again & Tragic upgraded to contributors on the website.

Thank you to both of these forumers and also especially to Tajhay

This is an easy way to support both the NZWarriors forum and also the City Mission - become a paid supporter of the forum and the Mission also receives support!!

Funds raised now stand at $2,416.40

I know we can do better - who is going to give the fund a nudge today?

Just gotta say

A couple pf intersections near me usually have beggars wandering around asking for money.

I know they will all be on the dole, and probably in some form of emergency accommodation. They just need some cash to pay for booze or meth. So I have little trouble ignoring them.

However tonight the missus wanted KFC which I hate anyway. So we went to the drive through.

As we drove out, with more KFC than I could eat, there was this hard up Maori lady asking for a donation, of anything.

I don't carry any cash so just smiled as I drove by.

She thanked me anyway and wished me a good day.

She seemed to be a really nice person, older and definitely on the wrong side of luck.

I really found it difficult to ignore her, and if I had any cash I would have given her some.

WTF is this city coming to?

That's the end of the story? I thought you were going to give her your quarter pack and drive away like a legend, or at least ask if she wanted your fries
