Great that you agree he turned it around.

It's now an industry worth around $1.5billion to the economy or 1.3% of the total domestic GDP.

What was it worth back then and where was it headed?

I see Labours Kieran McAnulty approved Entain to take over the TABs betting operations. Any claims of corruption there as the Minister for Racing?

You're still attributing incorrect meaning to my words mate and restating it as fact - read them again, and if you don't mind please try not to do that, it gives the wrong impression to others.

Nowhere do I say he turned it around, nor do I care. He's corrupt and a grifter, fitting in perfectly with this government.

I've got no doubt all sides are taking donations and favours all over the place. Some are worse than others, and some definitely benefit the wealthy few - mining, gambling, fossil fuels, weapons, the automotive industry etc.

The racing industry is effectively gambling, which is another wealth extraction industry and punishes those less off.

I'm 12% NZ Maori according to Ancestry.com, which is pretty much what I thought before I took their test, 1/8th Maori. Yes, I gave my DNA to some faceless corporation to do who knows what with, it also came back 28% "Ashenazi Jewish People's of Europe", just in time for the next progroms after what the Israelis are carrying out in Palestine. What have I done.
Hope you start feeling better soon W3D.

Do me the same favour then.

You said he received large donations to turn it around. Perhaps you should be more careful with what you write.

The point I had been replying to was stating that he had done nothing. Whether he did or didn't receive a donation for doing so is beside the point.

So either you agree he turned it around or he didn't. If he didn't, then state a case rather than going on your usual rant on corruption, neo liberalism, wealth extraction etc etc.

It's relevant if corruption is involved.

Call them rants, your choice, doesn't make it any less true.

Not relevant at all.

Did he turn the industry around or not? It's a pretty simple question really but apparently to difficult for you to answer.

Yes, I did call them rants and it is my choice.

Nah but thousands of 3rd - 6th cousins all around UK, Europe, US. Got sick of the constant emails spamming me with long-lost cuzzies so I blocked the site haha. Only surprising thing out of it was 2% Native American, no idea how that happened, first I've heard of it if it's true.

Well, one of your ancestors might have been on the Mayflower and deviated from the scriptures just once.
I got given a DNA kit from my stepdaughter, never crossed my mind finding relatives but ended up finding my father, bunch of sisters a brother, couple of cousins and the odd extra.

Farout that's pretty incredible mate, did you end up meeting them?

Some of them. Couple of my sisters are in Aussie, I've given up on them. Met the old man, horrible person.
Have formed a close relationship with one sister only, she is 3 months older than me, a farmer in the SI.
Only 3 months older… by my maths he was a busy father!

Even though he was banging on about the racing industry it went into further decline
The major income source has now been sold overseas.
Isn’t racing in a natural decline? Going the way of video shops, faxes and posting letters? So much more competition for our entertainment time now.

Probably always have a place but before the internet, sky tv and pro sports it would have had a large market all to itself and had much less competition?

Can't say I care if the industry gets turned around or not inruin. It's a cruel industry.

That's my choice not to care.

But yeah, let's try and get the attribution of statements correct eh?

Rugby, racing and beer back in the day.

What’s the difference between training elite horses and training elite League players?

Aren’t our pro sports people just modern day gladiators (slaves to their coaches) that wreck their bodies for our entertainment? Look at the punishment (abuse?) of Te Whare at the Dolphins!

Next you will want the rodeo’s closed down, fishing banned and our eggs unaffordable because the warehouse can’t sell em!

Leaguies don't end up at the pet food factory when they're lame though. My dog loves watching the trots while he licks his lips.

I believe that the idea of selling the tab was to counter the overseas betting market.
A lot of punting money was in off shore betting markets. Not only racing but sports and online gambling.
Pretty fucked if we cannot find a better way to make the tab financially viable.
These new guys are doing great with promotions and contacting punters who suddenly spend more than usual.
Such a certain financial cashcow that has to be majority sold to an overseas business makes no sense.

No gambling including lotto, casinos, sports, horse racing etc

No alcohol.

In fact, remove anything that involves people having to take individual responsibility for their actions.
