Team List Godinet & Fisiiahi included in 19 man squad flying out to Melbourne

Well, if there's any doubt at all re Johnson I'd prefer he didn't play? I suppose there's an argument both ways, our poor start to the season has placed more importance on these games than we would have hoped. I only think Godinet should be included if it's as an extra option at hooker. There isn't much point putting a guy on the bench in anticipation of your halfback being injured mid-game. If that did happen, the likely scenario would be Mateo to 5/8, Jabroni to 7.

Bluey wants him/expects him to play.. i heard him say in a mind numbing audio clip that he expects Johnson to be on a confidence high..

I would just not play him even if he's fine tbh. Melbourne will more than likely smoke us anyway since he'll probably be buggered from the test and won't do anything of note other than miss tackles. Give the bloke a decent rest, let Godinet have a crack at 7 in his absence.

I find it very hard to disagree with this..

Going into camp with the Kiwis, debuting and scoring a length of the field try...

Why is it weird to think he'd be on a confidence high? I'd be very surprised if he wasn't feeling that way.

Nah not weird at all.. i'm sure he would be on a confidence high. The audio clip was mind numbing because Bluey was talking.. and whenever he talks he sounds like a completel mongoloid.

I'm just worried that he's more likely to have a quiet game as Fazz said, miss a bunch of tackles and not contribute much .. a la round 2 and 3..

I hope he's in a better physical state than we think and it's not even an issue come gameday, cause i do want him to play if he's 100% or close to..

I realise i just said i agreed with Fazz that he shouldn't play even if he's fine, and then i said i want him to play if he's 100%..

what i agreed with was his prediction/concerns of Johnson having a bad game if he's still feeling the effects from the test..

Fish is not a winger, Wouldn't someone like Dylan Collier be better...someone who is a specialist winger? Just putting up discussion, I don't know anything about Collier

I would definitely have Fisiiahi on the wing over Collier - nothing against him, he's just not at NRL standard at the moment (I guess some would argue the same about Fisiiahi).

I could be wrong, but i just don't see Fish winning people back playing on the wing.. The only way i see him impressing is if we're somehow able to put him in to space.. and i don't really see that happening.

What makes you say that? Tupou was given the ball in space three times last game. Also think back to the Newcastle trial last season, he played a very impressive game on the wing there - coming infield and supporting.

The odds are probably against him, but I don't think we should rule him out yet.

I would give Fish another go on the wing. I think the memories of him on the wing need a little perspective. He debuted in Round 1 in our traditional Eden Park loss, then came back into the side at FB where he impressed with his support play/attack before being injured against the Rooters in round 5. We then didn't see him until he played on the wing outside Inu in a round 18 hammering against the Cowboys in Townsville, which was the 3rd of 4 losses in a row.

To be honest, I don't expect him to succeed on the wing. But given our wingers are hardly setting the world on fire, and both seem to be rewarded with re-selection despite having absolute shockers, I can't see any reason why he shouldn't be given a shot. Our wing stocks are actually pretty shit as they are. And I don't see Manu version 2.0 on the horizon - Bill is the best winger our 20's have produced.

I guess from a big picture perspective, the Fish is signed until 2015 and at this point in time isn't an NRL quality fullback. So our options are either be content with watching him score 20 a season for the Vulcans until he goes to the Sharks (or some other loser club) - or we see what he has to offer elsewhere - until we're convinced he sucks there also :D

Just that we are notoriously shit at putting our wingers away.. last week was a bit of an exception.. though i'd love to see Maloney throw that ball more often if it's on. (I'd be even more keen for Johnson to throw that ball to Manu).

The reason we got belted was in part BECAUSE of his performance on the wing. I don't even want to try and remember how many tackles he missed. Fish needs to be told in no uncertain terms that he'll never be an NRL quality player until he bothers to play in both defense and attack. He's one of the laziest defenders I've had the misfortune of seeing play at the moment.

Looking forward to this game...I think it's just the lack of Ropo. If Inu can have a decent game SURELY Ropo will have to work his way back in through the Vulcans...Right? Right? Nope...probably not =/
