Player Gerard Beale

Does it come down to what frustrates you more...Kata's attack or Hiku's D. I think Hiku is a much better attacker than Kata is a better defender than Hiku. So for me Beale to replace Kata and Hiku to be coached to stick his tackles...I feel it is just effort and he can improve on it. Can we really teach kata to pass or not run straight at the player? The last few years suggest no....

Well you did call him a good defender which is what had most people scratching their heads.

Without even looking at his stats watching the games everyman and his dog could see he's missed a shit load of first up tackles this year.

His attack has been fine. That right edge of Shaun Johnson, Tohu Harris, Hiku and Fusitua as been absolutely potent for us. (potentially best attacking edge in the comp)

It becomes a trade off, luckily his misses on D hasn't really been costing us and what he offers on attack and the combination he's formed on that edge more than makes up for that.....once it does start costing us tho then he'll be lucky to keep his position.
Yeah I was thinking about Kata, im very ill so not able to look at the screen much even at the mo. I think once other teams start targeting him is when that will happen, as you say. In our back I think our centres overall are our weakest link, not to say either are terrible, but if I was to buy a back, id be looking for high quality centres. Didnt Jaimie Lyon play wint for Parra (before he nearly threw his career down the sink) before he became a centre? Pretty rare player. Who are the best centres in the game we could target should be shed some money? I know the top paid players but doesnt always line up to being the best. Do we have have other options in ISP we should consider?

I think Beale will replace Hiku but what if he takes time to perform. Or could we possibly consider Beale on the other side to improve our offense. Dropping one of our best defenders in the back line would be harsh though. I think its going to come down to Beale playing in ISP, getting up to speed with a hit out, and then seeing how he goes over a few games in first grade. I dont know if having so much competition for a spot is such a good thing. It can breed instability. Maybe Hiku and Ken just need some D coaching outside the group.

Ouch 45 tackles is better than 95% defence efficiency? With just as many try assists, line breaks etc from Less games.

I do get your point though, but Hikus defense is definitely beyond terrible, and Katas offense is just as good from less games. So where is the problem on offense on that side, is it we just dont go that side enough as its not Johnsons/Greens preference, is it Ken out of position. Its odd as I feel Kata can be a ball hog and doesnt give Ken enough ball, but his stats dont suggest this.

And I just said the same thing, perhaps Hiku and Ken just need some one on one specialist coaching and Kata needs some PASS THE F>>> BALL coaching. lol

Yea stats also never tell the full story. Every tackle is situational on who is around them, part of the field etc. When I am watching I just see hiku bouncing off all the time. In terms of reading the play though I would pick Hiku over Kata. I can't see Kata creating the space Hiku does but as you said are we just not setting up the plays on that side...

For sure, stats in cricket annoy the crap out of me for that reason. Situational.

Yes I think even though it seems Kata is offloading, i dont think he is. Like wise Hiku on the whole has done a reasonable job on the right side following space being made from the halves and from some good passes to Fusitua, but has not completed his tackles.

The way I see it, we didnt buy Beale to be in ISP, or we wouldnt have bought him. We bought Hiku to cover that. So either Hiku or Kata imo are going to be sat down. Where do our other ISP players fit in this Im not sure. Its hard to replace Ken on the wing too with his runs, but if his defense is costing us..... we do have good wingers in ISP.

But I think Kata is covering a lot of that sides defense, so if we remove Kata whoever goes in there better be a damn good defender or both sides are weak on defense.

Complex little problem we have.

If Ken keeps improving at the rate that he has been....then he will be a very good Winger...right now he is solid and that is a big step up from where he was...the combination he has with Kata has improved...they are better than many a Warriors left edge in times past....they don't leak like that side used to, and Ken (lately) has been excellent under the high ball.

So if Beale sets the world on fire in ISP - and if Hiku is a good attacker and Beale is more of the defender and can both pass to the big units on the wing - that sounds like a good plan... Nothing really against Kata but i think Hiku won't be dropped and Beale would offer more, surely with his experience with the premiership with the sharks and playing for the Dragons/Brisbane & Kiwis? Kata is still young, he can learn from Beale (how to pass would be good) and replace Beale in the future.....(although he is still only 27). I like the idea of having that experience when we make the 8... ;););)

Kata will be the one moving to the bench.

It makes sense to have a nuggety dummy half runner come on in the same vein Tevanga does and up the energy levels in a fifteen minute period.

Beale off the bench gives you none of that, passenger just in case...yeah doesn't make any sense....we are not the Sharks.

Well whats he done on attack? Hes fallen off the map in attack. He did ok with Warrington, but super league seriously, thats a good chuckle.
Are you a troll or just plain retarded!?

First of all Hiku was fucking horrible at Warrington. He couldn't even make the top team. You clearly didn't watch his error ridden games he did play and just made that line up.

Secondly his attack has been brilliant. You do realise his outside man is the NRL's leading try scorer right? You reckon Fusitua makes that space himself like he's fucking Dynamo or some shit? Honestly getting sick of reading your retardation...

mark gasnier is one of the best centers in the modern game and his defence was attrocious. Hiku in attack is quality, like said he has laid on quite a few of fusituas trys. would be retarded to drop him.
for mine the weakest link in the backline is Maumalo but even then he is still playing well enough to stay.

Don't think either Peta Hiku or Solomone Kata deserve to be dropped even though their defence at times is fucking shocking. The way I see it Gerard Beale will take a spot in the starting team. It all depends on who gets injured first as to who misses out. Either an injury or a player having a complete shocker. Think Hiku might have the edge because of Kearney favouring his versatility...
