On Lance Hohaia no less. Deserved the first one. The second one got Russell Packer 2 years.

That's basically UFC…

Why the F couldn't MTV play this live
Pissed off that they didnt. Maori TV have ruined Super League. Had to find a free live stream that looked like it was being recorded with a potato. Will watch the delayed coverage again. Great game. Love the ESL passing game.

For those watching later, keep an eye on Lance Hohaia. While you can lol...

Yeah man, I was just casually on Facebook and had the result spoiled. As you've already seen it, I'd imagine you're feeling the same mixture of happiness, concern and bloodlust haha.

Was a great game regardless of who I was backing (trying not to spoil it lol). Sad it was basically decided as it was. Cant wait to watch the game properly on Maori. The feed I was watching was grainier then a box of cornflakes...

Same bro. I actually checked the guides to make sure I hadn't missed it. I wish the NRL were more like the ESL. With the emphasis on attack over wrestling, it's not only a more attractive game to watch, but I reckon we'd be morals for the top four haha.

I'm a huge Wigan fan and the actions of one bastard won't stop me supporting them but why isn't that coward cu** flower going to court for assault?

Boo hoo Lancey instigated the situation by forearming him but Flower's reaction is down right farkin disgraceful that cu** should be jailed not suspended.

Apparently it is down to St Helens and Hohaia if they want to press charges. I think he may be saved by the low profile of League in England as he would almost certainly be going to court with the uproar that would follow if he was a footballer. Being at the game I am particularly annoyed with the moron but I would imagine that he himself is feeling even worse about it and will regret it for the rest of his life.

Damn I knew I should have looked around this site before the game was avoiding it too not pick up the result; although a link in the recruitment thread had a guy tweeting the score and congrats and then the NZ news sites had the incident on the front page so my efforts to avoid the score we useless. Should have come in this thread and got the live stream details.

Got to love the NZ media TV3 played the incident without the first part of Hohaia forearming Flower just the two Flower punches 3-4 times and then went straight to a 1 second clip with St Helens with the trophy.

All last week on talk back I heard criticism about Burgess staying on the field and that League is going about concussions all wrong. Hohaia was obviously in no state to return to the field and didn't but I doubt St Helens or League will be praised for that it will all be about Flower.

Even in MMA that wouldn't be condoned well it would debated a lot about fighting to the ref stops the fight against hitting a guy you know is already out. A lot of fighters would walk away then anyway.

Big Wigan fan but congratulations to St Helens they won that without a lot of their best players in Lomax and Walsh.

70'000 people in attendance and millions watching on television you can't tell me that's low profile.. right in the public's view..that's common assault and about as barbaric and cowardly as it gets..

He only apologized so he wouldn't get assault charges pressed against him.. No toughness in that act just one of the most cowardly incidents I've ever seen on a footy field.

There are two punishable incidents here
The first punch would surely attract a 8-12 week suspension.
The second should wipe him out for a season just on its own and is a matter that should also be dealt with by the police.

No I think he probably does regret it. If he doesn't regret hitting Lance I'm fairly sure he'll regret costing himself and his team a championship which honestly 13 on 13 was almost guaranteed with the players missing for Saints. Anyway I really have no idea what kind of ban he will get because there is obviously no precedent set in Super League for doing something like that. There seems to be a 4-8 week suspension level for any kind of striking but a member of the disciplinary committee said they will be able to give a steeper ban. The disciplinary at the RFL is usually ridiculously soft but even they need to count the ban in months rather than weeks. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the Wigan club will be giving him a major internal disciplinary as Wane has said he'll stand by him.

Well I'm glad Shaun Wane will never coach the Warriors because I'd be fairly disgusted if any of our coaching staff would support someone in that situation.

Inexcusable what Flower did, Lance is a close bro from back in our league playing days here in the Waikato and he's always played the game tough but fair he's no fighter that's for sure.

Anyone who condones that behavior shouldn't follow league they should stick to being fans of UFC or Boxing.

There's a reason certain parts of main stream and media degrade league and put it down calling it thugby league and all the rest, the images of a man punching another man on the ground when he's out cold is jail material and it does nothing for the image of the game globally and just gives other codes more ammo to fire.

I dont know why everyone thinks Hohaia started, and thinks he deserved the first punch ( im also referring to facebook comments going around the traps ) has anyone actually watched the video properly ?

At 13 seconds you can see Flower completely takes Hohaia out with what looks like a high shot to the face, shoulder area without the ball, knocks him to the ground. Obviously Hohaia does like this and comes after him.

You can also see it alot clearer at the 1 minute at 18 mark, its mid screen.

Hohaia's "forearm" doesnt even connect with flower, its more of a shove.

Don't get me wrong I'm not happy with what he did and I'm not defending him. My initial thoughts as I left the ground were that if I was his boss that would be a sackable offence. But I can't see him getting as stiff a ban as most people think he will and he'll probably be back in the Wigan team writhing a couple of months of the season starting. I actually wish Hohaia would press charges bug I guess the reason he doesn't is because he doesn't want to look soft.

I think you need to take a look at exactly what Hohaia did...he came flying in with a forearm to Flowers head, which to me is far worse than Flowers first punch, which was a more than fair enough reaction.

Terrible incident that ruined the final! Flower has been charged with a Grade F offence (minimum of 8 matches, no maximum) although he's got a previously good record and has never been pulled up before the review panel before.

Hohaia has also been charged with a lesser offence (grade B) for the preceding elbow to the head.

The police and CPS are investigating but regardless of what happens I doubt Wigan will hang Flower out to dry. The memory of what happened to Terry Newton is still pretty fresh to most involved in SL. That said he deserves whatever punishment he gets.

I feel like Lance should have seen the first one coming. He gets bowled over and goes after Ben and tries to put a shot on him when he was well clear of the ball. Not sure what a little fullback thinks he's doing trying to retaliate against one of the biggest men on the field? Hohaia achieved his objective of intentionally impeding Flowers path. Should have left it at that. The second punch by Flower just left me speechless. Its incomprehensible that that would occur where and when it did let alone at all. Its a cowardly act.

Who knows what sort of suspension he'll get but no doubt it'll be lengthy. Has to be. Apologies all well and good but its too little too late really. I have no doubt that he cost him, his team and fans the Premiership. Wigan were by far the better team but the toll of playing with a man down was evident towards the end. I feel for both parties but at least Lance has his ring. No matter what Ben Flower goes onto achieve from here his name and career will be defined by this incident much in the same way that people will always remember John Hopoate for trying to finger players arseholes.

Dog act by Flower but Id still sign him in a heartbeat! Had a fantastic season but let down by one split second of momentary madness. That look of pure anger in his face reminds me of roid rage TBH...

The incident has overshadowed a pretty good final; ok not the best football but it was a great occasion and a nice close game.

Wigan went well with a man down; a credit too them a lot of teams in this day and age would have dropped their heads. A fit side aiming to go back to back held in there and stayed in the game. A lot our team could learn from that.
