Vodafone Warriors snare Dragons centre Aitken

Experienced St George Illawarra centre Euan Aitken has been confirmed as the Vodafone Warriors’ latest signing after being snared on a three-year contract until the end of the 2023 NRL season.

The 25-year-old Scotland international’s acquisition further boosts the club’s 2021 roster following the recent addition of towering Parramatta prop Kane Evans.

A consistent try scorer with a total of 38 tries so far (a best of 10 in 2018), Aitken leads all centres so far this season for metres gained (1980 in 13 appearances, an average of 152 metres a game) and post contact metres (814). He ranks behind only Joseph Manu as the centre with the most tackle breaks (49) while he has been one of the most effective defensive centres in the competition this season with just 10 missed tackles so far.

One thing a lot of people have been saying for some time - we need more Scottish internationals.

Still a shit signing in my opinion. 3 years as well

How you be so negative (along with others)
1. Give the guy a chance first
2. His metres and breaks look good in the past
3. Why dont you follow a different team if all the warriors do is shit as you say
1. I’ve seen enough of his game to form an opinion on him. If you don’t agree, that’s fine I don’t really care
2. Okay if metres are the only thing that matters should we just play Paasi at centre?
3. Where have I said that?

Aitken's success with us will boil down to his defence.
We know Aitken is an effective attacker, but he will cost us games if his defence is poor.

Defense isn’t his problem

Selfish play and inability to create and pass to his winger is

as other have already pointed out. We recruited a Scottish Kata 2.0

I’m not a hater though.

Really hope he steps up for us

The way Hiku and Herbert have developed this year and with Fusitua, Ken coming back..

Our outside backs and centre spots looks solid next year

We just need a strong play making half and the we’re set to take over the league in 2021

I wouldn’t even say he’s an effective attacker. Watch the many attacking plays from the Dragons die down as soon as Aitken touches the ball. The guy cannot pass and it’s so easy to form a defensive plan around that as we saw with Kata.

It's ok to say Aitken wouldn't pass you the tomato sauce bottle at table, even if you said please. It's not being negative, it's stating a well proven fact.

He has 13 assists over 6 season of NRL, that is an average of a smidge over 2 a year. He doesn't look to pass, gets tunnel vision, dummys and tucks the ball under his arm. When he does pass, it often puts his wing in average position because theres no fluidity and hes not drawing his man.

He is a strong one on one defender, and his defensive reads have improved a bit this year that's why his tackle % is up on previous seasons. He is also a strong ball runner, but lacks the vision a good centre needs to be a link man.

It remains to be seen wether we can teach him to pass or not, which will determine the quality of this signing.

Has there ever been a situation where a first grade player has had absolutely no signs of a draw and pass game, and been able to improve even to an average level?

Im aware of players who already had basic skills in this area and were able to improve. But not one where there was absolutely nothing to work with from the beginning (i.e. Kata)

Also, how many of Aitken's try assist numbers come from offloads etc. Dragons forum claiming they've never seen him draw and pass which has resulted in a try. Btw majority of them could not give a flying fuck that he's leaving.

He hasnt played in a warriors jersey yet but you punkass fans are upset by this signing. You must be algood with pompey at centre then. 🤦‍♂️
Well, The signing of Aitken could very well see the demise of Hiku & Herbert.
It may well be a center pairing of Pompey & Aitken In 2021.
Don't ask for Punkass Membership if it turns to shit.

Based on what some of us have seen. We'll continue to have punkass opinions based on what our punkass eyes have seen.

But I'm willing to give him a chance once he gets here.
And is part of the Warrior family.

Until then. Let us have our punkassness.

I stated from day one that he is Kata 2.0 when our interest was mentioned. My position won't likely change on that, but got to have a slightest bit of optimism since he just signed for 3 years.

As for the video, I respect your RL IQ on here so I think you're being facetious there. I'm sure you are aware he is a strong defender, and Staggs will do that to most of his oppositions over the next decade he's a freak.

That's concerning, lol.
And your reaction to that Aitken missed tackle video is why I believe we will live with his non passing and only 13 try assists, if the kent can be a brick wall in defence. Or at least not be a liability there.
