General ESL 2020

Toronto were a bit off the pace in the middle of that game. The’ll finish mid table I reckon once they get up to speed.

St Helens forward Luke Thompson will leave the defending Super League champions at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old prop, who is in the final year of his contract with Saints, will join Australian NRL side Canterbury Bulldogs.

"We accept and totally respect Luke's decision," Saints chairman Eamonn McManus said.

"There's no hiding from the fact that this is a bitter disappointment to all of us."

England and Great Britain international Thompson has scored 25 tries in 158 appearances for Saints, and helped them win three League Leaders' Shields in 2014, 2018 and 2019.

He also won two Super League Grand Final rings in 2014 and 2019 - and collected the Harry Sunderland Trophy for the man of the match in last season's final against Salford.

"We were informed last week that Luke has decided to join Canterbury Bulldogs next season," McManus added.

"We wish him nothing but success in his career and in his life. We are absolutely sure that he will be absolutely committed to the club and to his team-mates for the rest of this season.

"If ever he decides to return to England and to Super League then there would be a red carpet waiting for him at St Helens."

Not sad we missed out on Luke Thompson.
Haven’t seen it as I’m away from home. Sounds like Saints were poor though. Maybe complacency and thoughts of the upcoming game v Roosters?

i have no dog in this fight; Saints were outplayed and outfought by Warrington, but they did have several 'big names' out

Thought Warrington played well in their first round game against Wigan. Losing a player/captain, via a send off, early in the game made it extremely tough for them. The sin bin late in the second half was the final nail in the coffin. Still, they showed remarkable grit to hang in there.

Liked what I saw of Ben Murdoch-Masila. He’ll be a good addition to the Warriors & give us some sting in attack & muscle to our pack. Also thought Matty Ashton was good for Warrington.

Bevan French, always dangerous near the line. Interesting to see if he gets a run at fullback for Wigan this year.

Warrington looking sharp and with no Widdop.
You could be right about saints though.
Warrington will step up when Widdop is ready to play. Meanwhile, Ben Murdoch-Masila had another good game. Liked it when he ranged wide to draw defenders in to set up his winger. Percival came off second best when he tried to put a shot on Ben & had to leave the field. Hoping he carries his Warrington form across when he comes to the Warriors.

Would like to see Matty Ashton get a run in the NRL one day. The kid has potential.
