Internationals England vs Kiwis Series 2018

Hardyman's Yugo

Hardyman's Yugo

An English fan posted something he heard in the stands when Dallin Watene-Zelezniak was eye gouged " Get on with it he's got two eyes"...

Made me laugh.
I’m tempted to say that’s one more eye than the ref had today allowing your lads to lie on in the tackle.

Made no difference to the result like, once you went 18-0 up on half time you were home and hosed and we pretty much gave up. All players have weaknesses and every single one of ours showed theirs today.

Well played NZ though, especially the two halves. Thought your hooker had a good game as well

Typically JWH and a couple of others got away with high shots. I'd be pissed if I was a Pom.

The Nikorima-Johnson halves combo shows a lot of promise and looks exciting if they can get lots of test experience playing together. Would be even better if both could hook up at the same NRL club.

Yeah I didn't think Shaun Johnson played too different to the way he has all series tbh but nikorima stepping up really took the pressure off- I think that's the best game I've seen him play- very promising signs.

I was surprised issako wasn't handed the goal kicking duties- maybe they didn't want to put too much pressure on him in his debut but he's shown he can handle it.
Mind u Shaun Johnson hardly missed one this tour so if it ain't broke and all that.

Difficult to see from where were sat but what looked like a couple of borderline high shots went in early on when we were attacking at 0-6 down. We were on the 10 metre line at the end NZ were attacking first half so it was a long way off

It’ll be interesting to see how the GB side looks next year - it’ll just be the England team playing in a different jersey. In the past, RU converts such as Tait (Scotland) and Davies (wales) came into play but the best players now from those teams are heritage players. They’ll have a good side regardless.
The only non English player that springs to mind atm is Regan Grace. He is very young with development in him but a good finisher already.

We’ll have two Burgesses back, plus Watkins back in the centres.

Chris Hill and James Graham won’t be any better, both st the end of their careers and O’Loughlin is probably finished at this level now.

I keep mentioning Hardaker, I hope the daft get sorts himself out and has a good season at Wigan as he’s a real talent at full back. We missed Clark or Roby as interchange hooker today, both are good at breaking the line from dummy half but both are injured.

Should be another close series and I wish I was going

So glad for Maumalo this tour, shows what he can do when he's not just a battering ram outside an inept center.
So which part of his play in that game was because of his center partner? The tries he scored didn't involve his center at all and I didnt see him receiving quality ball from him either?

Battering ram i can agree with and perhaps Ken is growing in confidence with each game as a young man starting out does.

Well thats a year done and dusted for the kiwis.

2-3 record, 3 losses to the english is abit hard to bear but credit to them they have done well under bennett and its actually bringing alot of excitement to the international game, i wish we had a 3 match series against aus or 3 match series of aus v england. The three test format really is a pressure cooker and can reveal alot about your team. We showed we had the talent but we still have alot of mental weakness when its high pressure environment, england seemed to weather the storm better and are now absorbing pressure and turning it into points.

Todays result showed me the boys still wanted it. Madge has done a great job, I havent heard of any off field drama, no sex or drugs scandals, fingers crossed nothing happens before they get home but the boys seem in high spirits and considering its a young squad we've done well and learnt somethings about ourselves to carry into the future. the nil scoreline gives me some hope they have figured out some defensive keys, they slowed the ruck down well, although it was borderline they did it.

I thought Liu at lock was alot better and it was good to see tapine and papalii get a run.

Halves were much better, good seeing shaun put kicks on the ground and repeat sets, it felt like the kangaroos game just a few weeks ago where we dominated for alot of the game.

I'm looking forward to seeing the competition within the squad. Does madge play loyal to the ones who toured or does NAS and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck immediately get welcomed back in the squad?

My top squad if fit and available next year for 2019 would be

1.Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
2.Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
3.Manu
4.Whare (if hes back to normal standards otherwise Marsters)
5.Maumalo
6.Johnson
7.Nikorima
8.Bromich
9.Smith
10.Ah Mau
11.Harris
12.Tapine
13.Liu

14.Luke
15.Taupau
16.NAS
17.Fischer Harris

Depth
18.Hughes
19.Isaako
20.Hiku
21.Beale
22.Proctor
23.Papalii
24.Levi
25.Harawira-Naera
26.K.Bromich
27.Rapana
28.Mason Lino
29.Fa'amanu Brown
30.Jeremy Marshall King
31.SKD
32.Tevaga
33.Takairangi
34.Mckillwrick
35.Tetevano
36.Chee Kam
37.Packer

Alot of depth and alot of first team quality talent.

If you ask me has madge renewed my faith in the kiwis? the answer is yes but not quite. I saw 2 major mental collapses which is a pattern thats always existed so its telling me he hasnt figured it out yet. We played great football today which supports his grind it/completions structure. It can work but its not going to be the style that will win us games consistently, if its an even game we need some more xfactor to us to really punish teams.

I reckon Madge needs to stay right through to 2021. He's shown that he's better than Kidwell at least, not sure about kearney, kearney got some good results. I do like his use of the bench, he gets guys on and off the field at the right time which is great.

At the moment with our young squad we are looking good at this stage for the 2021 world cup, with the young ones getting experience playing in england they will add that to the kete of experience and hopefully we get some continuity in selections over the next 3 years. This seems the group to take into england 2021. Overall happy to be a fan again but also great to see the level of competition we have on the international scene right now. I just hope we see at least 4 home games next year and hopefully i can get out to a few.

I would like to see Roger Tuivasa-Sheck back in the starting side when he's fit. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to fullback and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to wing. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is a support runner who scores off his halves when attacking close to the line, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck can do that too but he also acts as the extra man who sets up his outsides for the try. With both players at the back we'll have two dangerous runners of the kick-returns.

agreed, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has more to his game that Dallin Watene-Zelezniak just doesnt have yet
