A lot of the job shedding is to make twitter financially sustainable. It currently services debts which account for 1B in interests alone each year. Elon inherited that debt with his purchase. A little hard to be making a loss and then have to pump in 1B of your own money to keep a company afloat. How to make twitter profitable would be an interesting challenge. He would somehow need to get content creators create videos on the platform and take them away from the likes of youtube/twitch etc. Video content is markedly better for serving ads. Hard to do that in text form.

Hes got some challenges. He has let go off entire depts which are quite crucial to running a social media behemoth.

Will twitter still be around in 5-10 years. In its current lean form I highly doubt it. Around 80% of the cuts have been around the teams overseeing it's technical infrastructure.

Elons strength is his long term strategic planning. You have to look through the short term chaos.

As I see it:

He is a world leader with online currency (PayPal)
He is a world leader in bringing to market operating systems (Tesla)
He is a world leader in IT assembly (Tesla)
He is a world leader with batteries (Tesla)
He is a world leader in data transfer (Starlink)

He will make a big play to tie it all together with his own mobile device using his own manufacturing, OS systems, batteries, starlink and a payment ecosystem.

It will be significantly better and cheaper than Apple/ Samsung/ Google, etc. Steve Jobs ‘iPhone’ level of disruption. Twitter is just a side show.

Musk is a genius. We don’t realise how great his moves are until they are already the world leader in what they do… (And I didn’t even mention space X, Mars or his solar tech).

According to Aylssa Milano Twitter now has too much hate and white supremacy. So she is going to trade in her Tesla for a Volkswagen. This then prompted Musk and others to point out that if she's against hate and white supremacy she should have checked as Volkswagen had links to the Nazis.

Ok, serious discussion.

You borrow US$40 billion against your shares in Tesla to buy Twitter that does not make a ton of money and was probably worth less than US$10 billion, if that.
You then proceed to piss of advertisers so the cashflow dries up.
Twitter is now worth a lot less than what it was worth, let alone what you paid for it..
That affects the value of the Tesla shares by quite a lot.
So you start firing people to save money.
That is ok, if you actually know what they are doing, which you don't.
The website is now a shadow of what it once was. Trolls abound, Russian bots are having a field day.

Now that is not the mark of a genius...unless your intent was to tank the joint anyway...and you are being paid to do it.

I favour the former, I think he is full of shite, just the same as Trump.
