Yes point taken on expectation. But somehow I keep coming back to Cliff Beverley
The legend of Fuksake Bev.

"Seu Seu... gets a ball away to Betham... Jones... Beverley... massive overlap out wide! Warriors must score! AHHHHHH FUKSAKE BEV!!!" He kicked it dead.

Confirmed line-up: Lui to make club debut from bench

Just-signed front rower Dunamis Lui will make his club debut from the bench in the Vodafone Warriors' Indigenous Round encounter with the Newcastle Knights at Redcliffe’s Moreton Daily Stadium today (3.00pm kick-off local time; 5.00pm NZT).

He moves onto an interchange which also includes hooker Taniela Otukolo and middle forwards Bunty Afoa and Aaron Pene.

Eliesa Katoa moves out of the 17 to be 18th man while centre Jesse Arthars is the 19th man.
The 32-year-old Lui makes the Vodafone Warriors his fifth NRL club in what will be his 170th career appearance.

After playing for Brisbane, Manly Warringah, St George Illawarra and Canberra, the one-time Queensland State of Origin prop signed with the Vodafone Warriors’ feeder side Redcliffe in the Queensland Cup this season.

Lui becomes Vodafone Warrior #271 and the third player in recent weeks to make his debut with the club within days of coming into camp.

The first was standoff Daejarn Asi who made his first appearance as Vodafone Warriors #269 against Canberra the week he was signed from the North Queensland Cowboys.

Two weeks later former Sydney Roosters hooker Freddy Lussick became #270 against South Sydney days after he was signed.

Omitted from the extended bench late yesterday were standoff Daejarn Asi, centre Rocco Berry, halfback Ronald Volkman and middle forwards Pride Petterson-Robati and Jackson Frei.

271. DUNAMIS LUI

On 23 May 2022 Dunamis Lui signed for the rest of the 2022 season after captaining the Redcliffe Dolphins.

On 6 September 2022 Lui was released from the Warriors.

No news on whether Lui has a contract for 2023 but him and his wife run a fitness centre called Dasha Dunamis Fitness...

Thought Dunamis was average. Not sure what happened to the Raiders player from about 2020 but he just isnt that guy anymore. Still a great player but I'm happy to see some of our juniors advance and show their stuff...

Thank you for your optimistic response. :D
I must be getting soft in my old age but I'm acutely aware of the fact that one day a players loved one will be browsing threads and see comments like 'he's fucking useless' or 'he is so mud'. Believe it or not, while creating player threads recently I came across one for Sonny Fai that was basically saying that much about him. I had to have a really long think about whether to merge or remove it from view. The ethics of free speech in its time and place against respecting the dead. I choose the later reasoning that those that made the original posts would agree in hindsight.

The simple fact is that any player that suits up for the NRL is several times a greater athlete than the vast majoirty will ever be. Dunamis Lui has played 175 NRL games as well as games for Samoa and State of Origin. Shit we can all only dream of. My highest achievement in sport was repping the school 2nd XV in the Auckland C grade comp and we use to get pumped every week lol. I think Lui has me covered. Just...

Like the great Brian Scalabrine once said, he’s closer to Lebron James than any pick up/YMCA baller is to him.

When I bag any player it’s always with the understanding that the worst NRL player is way better than I’ll ever be.

We’ve had a few current and ex NRL players play in our comp the last few years (Te Maire Martin, J Vuna, W Koopu, L Anderson) and you can see why they got there where the rest of us didn’t.

Also why I’m so defensive of anyone who ever makes it to a Kiwi jersey. Making it to the Kiwis means you’ve made a name in the NRL and making to that level from NZ is hard.

I can recall at least one dud from way back last century.

Those were the days when Auckland ruled, so they included some from other provinces for optics.

A good friend of mine (except when we played each other ;) ) had been a star going through junior ranks and had been groomed for the next tour.
Instead they picked a player from out of Auckland.

That dude was exceptionally big and tough but his skills and fitness would never have got him a game in Auckland.
He was also highly respected in the community and getting on a bit in age so I think the tour was a farewell gift.
He got one test and didn't even last that game.

However these days if you make the Kiwis you are worth it for sure.

Not as bizarre as Marc Ellis...surely?
More bizarre than Ellis for mine Bruce. Maybe it's my Southland/Otago bias showing through.
Dunamis falls into the same category as Sharkey Robinson. Talented on their day but a weird fit for the club all the same

Did he ever set foot in NZ despite the borders being open? Whilst we needed someone with experience to replace Lodge, his 4 game stint will have to go down as one of our most bizarre signings of all time
Dunamis Lui was a convenient and half baked attempt to cover for Matt Lodge leaving. Lui was captain of the Redcliffe Dolphins who we had a partnership with.

Lodge's release was announced on 20 May 2022. Lui signing was confirmed on 23 May 2022...
