Coach: Mal Meninga

My team is based around a skilful forward pack with an elite spine and fast, ball playing backs, finished with absolute speedsters on the wings.

Like any great team, our biggest strength is the spine. The little general, NZ, greatest ever half, controls the teams attacking options and his combination with Slater at the back will carve up the opposition. Both edges are skilful, powerful and more than solid in defence, tied together by Jim Dymock (3 times Dally M lock) dominating the centre. The game plan would be similar to the Storm with pace and ball playing speed blowing oppositions away with the spine creating space and the backs carving up.

T-Rex is a point of difference, bought on in the second row to target a tiring defence. Imagine Elias scooting out of the play the ball and committing defenders, out to Jones who has T-Rex thundering at the defensive line. Jones can serve him the short ball or alternatively with His superior ball handling, cut back inside to a storming Slater or throw the cut out ball to Hayne in the outside… an unstoppable force unleashed on the opposition.

This team is not only an attacking force, it’s also a defensive wall. Mark Geyer - a physical and aggressive defender, Kevin Iro - the original beast, Elias (triple Daly M hooker) is adept at leading the defensive line, and big Marty Bella and Nathan Cayless both being huge powerhouses up front. Not to mention Slater at the back if they happen to get through…

Wizards weapons - an unstoppable force in attack and immovable objects in defence. A well rounded team, whose complimentary combinations make the team greater than the sum of all parts.

How did you guys find the lightening rounds? Good for some variety? Too hectic? Or want more of them in the future?
Loved the first one because I got the my number one target- wasn’t big on the second one because none of the guys I really wanted fit the criteria 😂

I think it would’ve been cool if u allowed 24hrs for player swaps- would’ve made for some good entertainment and more well balanced teams.
All in all though it was another fantastic game thank u Wrighty and all the other contestants especially DavidMcKay1974.
We’ll done crew- there’s some wicked looking lineups there 👏

I have a confession. In the second lightening round I put in a long lead up about Michael Jackson to create tension and stress for the contestants to have to sift through all that in a rush before getting to the crux of the matter LOL.

Regarding trades...would have to be agreed from the early concept design that trades were in so I could think through all the rules regarding them. A future game concept could be a draft with trades...eg if you give me Cameron Smith I will give you Brandon Smith and my first round pick in round 3 and round 5, Ie allow swapping of drafting positions as well to lubricate trades.
The bid disadvantage of trades is that unless all contestants actively trade then the traders are advantaged over people who no one wanted to trade with, so hence trading would need to something right from the start and everyone geared up to do from before the game even started.

My initial idea was players coached by G Lowe but decided too similar to last night.
Would that alternative criteria helped you more in hindsight?

See I reckon it would’ve worked better without people knowing from the start as then people would’ve just been going for the best players without trying to put a team together- would’ve just been a fun little bonus at the end (I don’t want it to end haha).
Yeah was onto u with the Michael Jackson stuff- skimmed straight past it- couldn’t even tell u what it said 😂

Well its not over yet as their voting and conjecture over what player squads are the best. So a couple more days of posting yet !!! :)
When I set up the voting thread you will all be given three votes but can't vote for yourself. Actually you have been in 4 or 5 of these things Defence so I know you know the drill !!!
I LOL'd hard at your last sentence above "I was on to you" LOL. That was very smart to skim the Michael Jackson history lesson and go straight to the hard question!!! Very good Defence

I thought that might be your next idea, was thinking Lindner would be a good pick however preferred Kennedy when the criteria was set down

Changed my coach to Maninga. I don’t think he’s the best technical coach but his talent is motivational which is exactly what is needed in representative teams. His representative coaching stats back this up in SOO and as Kangaroo coach where his teams rarely lose.

It also have the added benefit of being totally disruptive if my team met Brownstones team. As big Mal would have a conflict of interest, he would have to stand down from both sides which creates a huge hole in his squad 🤣

Careful or else I’ll change my coach from Sheens to Stacey Jones - we all know how damn good a coach the little general is!

Jones illustrious playing has shown he is a passionate kiwi. Having never played for an Australian NRL team, on his behalf, I can state that he would decline to coach a team made up of majority Australian players. 😝

Hmm not really tbh- I really wanted a winger- prob would’ve taken Hugh mcgahan under that criteria (if I was quick enough).

Craig Fitzgibbon. Not a bad last round pick. Could almost make my starting line up
Thanks very much BillySpleen - and per my message higher up maybe name your 14-17 in the team list thread as well...also see my next steps post on the previous page.
Let's see if you can defend your title when the votes come in !!!!
