General Craig Gower

with so much whinging and complaining about our halves in particular grant rovelli, do you think we should chase craig gower.

he has made it known that he will be back in the nrl by round 6 or 7 after negotiating a release with his french rugbby union side.

i have heard that the doggies are favourites for his signature but would you like him in a warriors jersey?

I would like to see Hohaia in the 7 jersey before we even consider Craig Gower but it may be something to consider while a Quality halfback is available.

Oh for heavens sake. We've had one game 2 by tomorrow afternoon. You can't solve this sort of an issue by just going out there and buying things to suit. Besides as generally good as he could be, I think he's a bit way past it anyway. And I don't mean that i age, but generally in performance. He's previous played SOO and at International level and been a grand final winner, yes but since then he hadn't really stood out from the rest

I'd also like to see Hohaia get a shot at the 7 but failing that i'd be trying to move heaven and earth to sign Gower if i was the Warriors. He isn't the player he was and one would hope he hasn't picked up any lazy habbits from union but he would be worth a shot.

Nope i agree with Skinny on this. If we buy gower, he will be with his maybe 2-3season max and then waste money on a specialist halfback who has hade experiance in first grade.

we need to stick with Rovelli, and develop him, he is still young, just because he doesnt have the flare like many other young players does not mean he will not develop as a top level halfback, with the help and surport of Stacey Jones and the other coaching staff its just a matter of time before he blooms into someone very similar to Cooper Cronk at the Storm.

Just remember Rome was not built in a day.

Rome has had three seasons to develop now, how much longer does he want?

As to Gower only having a max of 3 seasons with us.....how many seasons did we have out of PJ Marsh? How many seasons did we get out of Campion? John Simon? Dean Bell? Kevin Iro? Ritchie Blackmore? Jason Death? Robbie Mears?

If he was still on form and still worth getting, then mabye. But that time has gone. These sorts of players only have a small frame when they are great before it all fizzles out (others always have that about them). He'd be a waste of space and money.

Those were lucky breaks. Sometimes you get that right at that point when they are 'in the zone' so to speak. When they are, god knows what they are capable of. But those type of players are few and far between now. Infact those type of players have alot to go through before they get to that stage.

and its not a full three seasons yet. Its two and a bit.

so you think Ravs will develop into a quality NRL 7 in the half season he has left?

I think Ravs will develop into a great number 7, we have not even played our second game of the season yet, with 20games + still to play.
Just allow him to take his time, he did a good job after the break he hade in Premier league. With Stacey guiding him, and the confidence he gets in each game, its just knowing when this season he will spark into a champion. It may be this week, it might be in 2weeks, we never know.

I think he will at some point. He doesn't have the makings of being the greatest player in the entire game, of course not. But he does have his own way in the game. Well he's not Mr. Super Glamerous that is for sure. (and lets face it, the NRL is spoilt with players that are so individualistic these days its really quite sickening). How much he's changed from 2007, who knows. I certainly haven't seen enough in one game to know for sure nor to say he's still playing that poorly. One game, remember. You can't judge them that early on.

It's not to say I won't get annoyed or frustrated or peeved off with his performances if he does play poorly this year (and I was quite a few times in 2007).

And btw, I didn't say he would be a top qulity half by season's end (your just assuming that is what I said) Coz really I just mean its only the start of year 3. (and ya'll will jump on me saying yeah it's year three should be doing better by now..yaadda...yadda, yadda. Well, not every player in this compeition can have those dream starts in their career.

Re: Cooper Cronk. If Orford hadn't left, Coops would probably still be stuck behind Smith at hooker.(and you only have to look at the players outside of him and their 'super perfecto coach' to know why he's going well. Not all halfback have that luxury as Melbourne do (ok perhaps the Dogs, or Broncos..etc might have). If you took Coops out of the Storm and put him somewhere else. Would he still be the same halfback now? Something tells me, not.

I would like to see Gower as a Warrior.
Cooper Cronk was brought up as someone who developed into a great half?
2006 was his first season at starting halfback, the same year he won Dally M halfback of the year.
Forwards grow into great players, halfbacks not so much, imo Rovelli wont.
Langer, Sterling, Jones, Stuart, Thurston, Johns just off the top of my head, they were just exceptional from the start its the nature of the position you have it or you dont.
I guess the the only one I can think of would be Prince and he isnt in that elite group.

Agree with all of that except for Prince, Mone. I thought he was pretty good early on, but injuries stuck to him like you-know-what to a blanket. Set him back a bit.

I don't think Gower would be worth it, he'd be a waste of 400k...just as Ruben is now, jks Ruben.

As for Ravs, I would like to think he will develop, however I'm not totally sure he'll get much better. He's worth his spot at present, though i don't think he's ever really nailed it down.

Let's just buy Scott Prince.

Please, like I said. Put Coops in an ordinary team then you'd know for sure he wouldn't be the player he is now.

There are some halfback who are just exceptionally good, and others who just don't, at least not straight away. You just have to bide your time with them, even if it is frustrating.

If we were talking of some one like JT then maybe but not of Gower, no way. As I said earlier I think he's past his best and I don't think we'd benefit that much from him anyway. Better to keep ones money in the bank then chase him

Like which ordinary team?
Then after answering that tell me which halfback would be the same as they are now, in that team?

The problem is, that we will never lure a top halfback over to the club. Our options are limited to halfbacks who have like 2 years left and want an easy ride, or home grown talent. It's just the way it is.
