A recent Cochrane Review – considered the gold standard of evidence-based medicine – assessed 78 high-quality scientific studies, and found “wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference” when comparing masking with non-masking to prevent Covid-19.

These findings support Ashley Bloomfield initial recommendation and opinion.

So we don’t get ANY herald article saying mask wearing was ineffective given this new study? Instead we get a herald article saying the study “has been torn to shreds in a scathing take-down” by… someone on Twitter who is not a scientist, but a noted author…. 🤯

Honestly, for the Herald to write 10x the amount discrediting, in their own words ‘the gold standard assessment’ with a nobodies hack job shows how low the media has dropped.

The big news is - Ashley Bloomfield was right that masks didn’t work - not that a lay person would get that from the herald.

i’d say it took roughly half a brain to realize surgical masks were never going to do too much. they’re open either side of the nose and WIDE open on both sides of the face.
don’t even get me started on re using and having your nose hanging out.

BUT!
hate the government and WEF and UN and whatever else all those pLaNdEmIc folk hated, they failed to realize (or were just too much of a selfish cu** to care) that if a company asks that you behave a certain way in their store/office/practice then that is what is expected of you.

you can be asked to leave a bar for not following the rules they ask of their patrons so why should you be able to act like a fuckwit in a supermarket that’s asking you to wear a mask and social distance and refuse without being turfed?

i can’t wear a motorcycle helmet in a bank and i can’t walk in your front door and piss on the carpet.
do i carry on about jacinda ardern and the NWO because if it?

no. i respect the rules set by the business, because guess why? it’s not that fucking hard and it has zero downside for myself or anyone else.

And what if the restrictions saved only one life its was worth it. Especially if it was you or one of yours

Some of the studies suggest masks actually could have slightly increased the risk which Bloomfield alleged to about hands on the face, etc

I think the real reason they bought them in was it made people feel safe and confident to get on with life and the phycological benefits outweighed the fact they didn’t do much.

Even though I doubted masks benefits I still wore them everywhere.

I think it also created a level of compliance and buy in from the general public. Pretty hard to say stay home but if you do go out dont do anything different

Honestly, when the Herald could publish a solid facts driven article but instead write 10x the amount discrediting, in their own words ‘the gold standard assessment’ with a nobodies hack job opinion, you have to question what’s going on with the media?

The analysis is flawed because it compares apples to oranges. The paper mixes together studies that were conducted in different environments with different transmission risks. It also combines studies where masks were worn part of the time with studies where masks are worn all the time. And it blends studies that looked at Covid-19 with studies that looked at influenza.
If apples work and oranges don’t, but your analysis mixes them together, you may come to the false conclusion that apples don’t work. Out of the 78 papers analyzed in the review, only two actually studied masking during the Covid-19 pandemic. And both of those found that masks did protect wearers from Covid-19. But these studies are drowned out by the greater number of studies on influenza included, where the benefit of masking is harder to detect because it’s a far less contagious virus than Covid-19.
Even the authors themselves acknowledge in the paper: “The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low adherence with the interventions during the studies hampers drawing firm conclusions.”

Another good article. “The review includes 78 studies. Only six were actually conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic”
I’ll stick to the accuracy of actual scientific experts on this one rather than a couple of journalists with strong personal views 🤔

Lol. Your reading a journalists interpretation of the report too, or are you saying you read the actual report?

Oh that's right - half your schtick on here is being a troll. So who to believe....

From the actual report;
Authors' conclusions:
The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low adherence with the interventions during the studies hampers drawing firm conclusions.
Key messages
We are uncertain whether wearing masks or N95/P2 respirators helps to slow the spread of respiratory viruses based on the studies we assessed.
Hand hygiene programmes may help to slow the spread of respiratory viruses.

What do you reckon about this Sup42? Real worry if this takes off.
Hmmm

Hard to know where this is going. Extremely lethal yet most likely to hit vulnerable hospitalised patients rather than society in general.

On the surface, at the moment, it appears a disease that can be controlled with excellent systems.

But as M. Baker intimated it is shit house to have it around because once you get it you are one in three to die.

Based off other super bugs and how this high kill narrow selective victims profile has played out so far, it is unlikely to take off.

If it does take off, then that would be a horrific indictment of how over stretched our hospitals are.

I wish I knew more, but the general tone of that article intimates that if hospitals are on point then it can be limited, however M. Baker seems to hint at the fact that our hospitals are already at max plus, which is where you will see these superbug type plagues take off.

Just about how it can survive on surfaces for long periods of time gave me the shits, even in cables. One of these at some point is going to make covid look small I worry.

That is the thing about Fungi. Most complex system of creatures that exist in the animal kingdom.

Fungi are animals, not bugs, not plants, they are an offshoot of the Animal evolutionary branch.

Bottom line it is shit to have another killer organism that should you get seriously weakened will kill you.

Geez, that will bring wizards rage out of his slumber given he thinks everyone is entitled to exercise their god given right to protest no matter what the circumstances 🤨🤭
For the good of the cause!

I wonder how long in jail David Clarke got for repeatedly breaching covid regulations as well? Oh that’s right he’s on the good political side so he was ok 🤣
