To be fair to both the NZRL and the ARL they are up against the Australian economy and our brain drain.Very interested in his ARL plan. Any details? Finding kids to play League is tough!
I think one of biggest issues we have in NZ League in general is that while we have massive interest in the game at the NRL level, so many NZ League fans contribute nothing to the grassroots level.
They don’t play, volunteer, ref, coach, fundraise, or do anything that would help strengthen our base.
Barring Maori/Islanders they don’t even let their kids play mostly.
We need more kids playing the game.
The we need “more hard Aussie white boys” crowd is right in the sense that they’re are F all hard “white boys” here to pick from because they won’t ever play the game.
Maybe we’d have more Mark Graham’s and Simon Mannering’s if more Pakeha actually played the game and/or let their kids play.
No disrespect to the hearty Pakeha bros who do play/contribute.
If kids can tackle big Poly boys in rugby they can probably tackle them in league too. If little white Aussie league kids can tackle them, our white kids probably can.
God forbid we could have half the jr numbers/volunteers/funding of rugby let alone fucking soccer lol. The Warriors/Kiwis would be a bloody force.
Instead we’ve all these “experts” who know everything about league who’ve somehow contributed none of that knowledge to their local club/juniors and probably can’t even name the local club.
And don’t get me started on the guys who watch the NRL all weekend over Rugby but then volunteer their time to a rugby club instead of a league club. Ffs.
I disagree, I used to think the guy was an idiot but I actually got to meet him and talk in depth on a few topics and honestly the guy is an absolute encyclopaedia of sports knowledge, yes sometimes his delivery could be refined but seriously he’s the only one who asks questions in many interviews that need to be asked and others are too afraid to ask, Waldegrave and co talk a big game then when the person is in front of them shrivel up like the old fella in a snowstorm.Yes he is a tool, but he can be entertaining, like a cheeky 13 year old.![]()
I hear you, but I used to listen to his breakfast show decades ago, the irreverence I could put up with but then he got all chummy with his new friend Miles Davis FFS...and then one morning as Brendon Telfer (who he hated) came on Devlin started an anti gay rant.I used to think the guy was an idiot
You are so polite...it was total bullshitvery interesting comments
Good point, and so would any other decent coach. Now most of us realise CG is a complete drong but I know if I was faced with those challenges in my first head coaching role with a club as poorly run as ours I'd run a mile.
To show I always live in hope, our defence was ok on Sunday. If we're insisting Webster keeps everyone then my optimism has dropped from 0.5 to 0.01
I have some advice for him. If you want to be a better public speaker. Say only what needs to be said and don't prattle on like your a total expert. That's what gets you in trouble with th media.George is a terrible public speaker, which is not surprising for an uneducated person.
Leaving the lack of formal education aside, it is easy for anybody to attend a public speaking course.
Public speaking 101, when asked a question speak to it, don't rave on like a politician looking for a Twitter bite.
One has to ask why an organisation with a multi million dollar turnover, employs such a person as CEO.
Somebody mentioned CEOs should be on $400k but I know an international franchise, based in Australia, whose NZ CEO was on about $50k.
I thought the questions were all intelligent, and well put, he answered like he was talking to a moron.
The guy is just a yob.
So we have two yobs at the top, I just hope Webster can work through it.
interesting cause is he trying to sell to the media that we have a competitive team next year or that he actually believes we will be competitive. i feel like i am in the few on this forum that believe we have recruited pretty poorly especially under his watch. You are so polite...it was total bullshit
Is the CEO responsible for recruitment? If so why? WTF does he know about the game? The coach should tell the CEO who he wants and he goes and gets him.interesting cause is he trying to sell to the media that we have a competitive team next year or that he actually believes we will be competitive. i feel like i am in the few on this forum that believe we have recruited pretty poorly especially under his watch.
a ceo should not have anything to do with recruitment. The way CG words his statements he absolutely does or wants the impression to all out there that he does.Is the CEO responsible for recruitment? If so why? WTF does he know about the game? The coach should tell the CEO who he wants and he goes and gets him.
