Taylor is the best available, and if you are signing him as a back up for Johnson then there is massive upside, providing terms are right. The hip injury is a massive worry but if he’s on the cheap there’s not much to lose.
I am on board the Ash Taylor train as well. I will chip in that he has experience. Which is something we need more of as opposed to young developing players.
Didn't know he was only 26. Probably his best days are ahead of him.

No problem with signing Ash.. Tits paid and expected to much from a young fella with no real class players around him.
This could be a chance to reboot his career with us. Princess, Brownie and co, could teach him a lot and help him get his confidence back, Kevies done the same with Milford..
I think the club's moving on from being a career killer and retirement village.

I'd sign Taylor on minimum last chance contract, why not ,would be better value and offer more than Nikorima.

While we're at it we could sign this wanna be Rapper.Hang on we already have.
Wouldn't he be better off concentrating on off season and Pre season tasks.
Kane Evans, and Addin Fonua-Blake will be right into this amongst others.
I thought we had a no dickheads policy ...I am beginning to wonder.
This is just what we need.

Sport Confidential: Ash Taylor a fighting chance at Warriors, Wests Tigers set for coaching shake-up

Michael Carayannis and Jamie Pandaram

The Warriors are considering handing Ash Taylor a lifeline.
Taylor was spotted meeting with Warriors officials including coach Nathan Brown and chief executive Cameron George on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

It is understood the Warriors are now toying with the idea of signing the 26-year-old whose career is at the crossroads.

Taylor was officially farewelled from the Titans earlier this week as his multi-year million dollar a season deal came to an end.

He would be joining the Warriors – or any other club – on about a quarter of what he earnt in recent seasons. Even at the Warriors he would likely start as a back-up half with the club already signing Shaun Johnson.

Johnson is likely to partner Chanel Harris-Tavita in the halves while Kiwi international Kodi Nikorima is on their books.

The Warriors decision to base themselves in Redcliff next season could work in their favour when it comes to landing Taylor.

Instead of relocating to Auckland, he could remain in Queensland and close to family.

His former club Brisbane have all but closed the door on Taylor returning. He has been linked with the Raiders, a potential move to England or even giving the game away.

After a stack of mid-year arrivals, the Warriors have only Johnson and Aaron Pene joining the club next year. Back-up half Sean O’Sullivan is on the look-out for a new club.
For me this is a clear indication that the club don't rate Chanel Harris-Tavita, and after this season maybe that's fair? I hope it brings the best out of Chanel Harris-Tavita and he fights for his spot, not the worst signing on the cheap.

He can do our half-time entertainment and rewrite the team song haha.
Seriously though warriors should look to use him for some kind of promo work or a warriors song or something

Well I'm glad he's got a backup job if no club picks him up.

I do not know what any offer to Taylor is but it will not be bottom dollar or super high. Interesting about his hip injury, if it is long standing that would have had an effect on his form, fitness, speed, agility and kicking.

If signed get him into a specialist, if it means he is late for pre season, no worries, get it right, they can put a medical condition in the contract.

Agreed, also indicates that the club wants results now. Else our good signings will chuck in the towel and snatch it.. rather than busting their asses for years, knowing the club wont make finals footy with the spine we got.
Mohawks drawn the line, I'd say.. it's his business and he wants success now..

Ash Taylor has 76 Try Assists, 18 Tries, 68 Forced Drop Outs, 5 40/20's & 3 Field Goals in 115 games. Beaten every side in the NRL (43 wins) at some stage and finished 2nd & 3rd in Try Assists across the entire comp before.
For comparisons sake Chanel Harris-Tavita's 11 wins in the NRL have been against just 7 teams. His short career is only a 3rd of Taylor's but if you use what he's done to date x3 you get 111 games for 33 TA's, 18 Tries, 48 FDO's, 0 40/20's & 3 FG's.
If Taylor's hip injury isn't too severe & we pay him no more than 300k then it's a relatively low risk & pragmatic move. Would provide welcomed competition for the #6 jersey (15W-18L in the position) & much needed back up for the #7

Whether it’s a one year deal or something more substantial will indicate where Taylor’s drive sits to become a first grade half again imo. A one year contract would be nothing more than a contract of convenience given we‘re based at Redcliffe and Toowoomba is closer than the Goldie, my expectations for him would be relatively low. Anything more than that and he could be serious about rejuvenating his Nrl career with a move to Auckland on the cards.

Interesting to see how POS manoeuvre‘s through this with plenty of our halves already in a state of flux within the next 12 months to 2 years.

I’d grab Taylor for min 2 years assuming injury isn’t chronic. That gives us continuity and a decent caliber cover for Shaun Johnson when realistically he’s probably going to miss 1/3 the season.

similar missed Tackle rate to Niko is a concern tho…more per game, less per minute. Didn’t watch him too closely this year, anybody got thoughts on his D?

Him on board gives scope for Chanel Harris-Tavita to hone his skills in reserve grade. Dunno if chts lack of kick height is injury related, but it’s been below NRL standard this season and costs us at the end of sets. But I like him and Would love to see him kick on. Learning under 2 ‘million dollar’ halves would be a decent apprenticeship

A lot of positivity about Taylor.

The reality is we would be signing Kodi 2.0. Because Ash Taylors attitude is shithouse, and talk of the Warriors lifeline turning him into a player with a better attitude is wistful thinking at best and delusional at worst.

If we are honest, there is maybe a five percent chance of him improving on what he offered the Titans.

The Key to unlocking Taylor rests with Taylor, nothing the Coaching staff do or say will sway a chronically under performing star player with a bad attitude.

The hip injury ain't the thing....the injury to the mind is what is really wrong with the guy.

He has had an appalling attitude if I am honest, maybe even worse than Kodi, which is a shame, because he is a more rounded player.

The only hope I hold out, is that a pushy guy like Shaun Johnson can get him interested. That could see us thrash a few teams, then see either or both out injured, and be left wondering what could have been.

The only positive I see in signing Taylor is that it helps to continue to show Kodi....and therefore the rest of them....that when you take your position for granted,....and you take up a lazy player option....the Warriors will use all means necessary to keep you away from Grifting in the halves.
Bro, the top halves in the comp are at about 0.9 try assists per game, he’s around 0.6.
If he delivers that at $300k a season, as a back up - or even as a first choice half - then he’s exceeded expectations. If he fails, he won’t be any worse than SOS was this year, so it’s such a low risk/high reward gamble.

I know there’s a lot more to a game than attack, but we were the 4th worst attacking team this year, so we need to look at that. I don’t expect the Warriors to fix him, but if he wants to do the work, he could turn out as one of the buys of the year.

Teams tend to run at him due to his general disinterest.

Titans fans thoughts on Taylor are an echo chamber of Warriors Kodi observations.

Taylor is talented, he just does not give a stuff, that is what has held him back, he has as much natural talent as any of them.

I am not a hater with Taylor because he is not one of our players, so who cares.

I just honestly do not see how the Warriors would benefit from having a guy with his attitude at the club. That would be two with Kodi there.

These attitudes are infectious.
