Any got a subscription to the daily telegraph there is a write up about us meeting with Ash Taylor yesterday apparently?

Sport Confidential: Ash Taylor a fighting chance at Warriors, Wests Tigers set for coaching shake-up

Michael Carayannis and Jamie Pandaram

The Warriors are considering handing Ash Taylor a lifeline.
Taylor was spotted meeting with Warriors officials including coach Nathan Brown and chief executive Cameron George on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

It is understood the Warriors are now toying with the idea of signing the 26-year-old whose career is at the crossroads.

Taylor was officially farewelled from the Titans earlier this week as his multi-year million dollar a season deal came to an end.

He would be joining the Warriors – or any other club – on about a quarter of what he earnt in recent seasons. Even at the Warriors he would likely start as a back-up half with the club already signing Shaun Johnson.

Johnson is likely to partner Chanel Harris-Tavita in the halves while Kiwi international Kodi Nikorima is on their books.

The Warriors decision to base themselves in Redcliff next season could work in their favour when it comes to landing Taylor.

Instead of relocating to Auckland, he could remain in Queensland and close to family.

His former club Brisbane have all but closed the door on Taylor returning. He has been linked with the Raiders, a potential move to England or even giving the game away.

After a stack of mid-year arrivals, the Warriors have only Johnson and Aaron Pene joining the club next year. Back-up half Sean O’Sullivan is on the look-out for a new club.

Get Ash on a cheap 1 year deal whilst we’re based in Qld. He is a better player than Sean O'Sullivan and with the track injury record Of both Chanel Harris-Tavita and Shaun Johnson, we need a solid back up.
I assume that he must also have come under the coaching of our Assistant, Craig Hodges at The broncos and Titans?
Could be Building a nice little group of AU Indiginous players too.
sean is the goat hes better then ash taylor

Would imagine Sean O’ Sullivan is looking for a longer deal and we’re only interested in a one year deal, or he’s been in talks with a team for a while. Could work out for us with Ash Taylor on a one year deal. He’d be trying to impress to secure another deal to stay in the nrl. Would definitely be his last chance and a change of clubs might be what he needs. Bit of a worry if he needs injections to play though.

The only thing I’d be worried about a 1 year deal is that Ash, Chanel and Kodi will all be off contract at the end of 2022.
We don’t want three new halves in 2023 and Shaun Johnson getting injured rd 4, and having to rely on all these new players.

1 year with club option, or 2 year for mine.

Yeah I tend to agree, the only thing with that is how would Chanel feel (I'm sure the club don't want to lose him). I don't know risky business.

To be frank I think we need to stop worrying about ‘feelings’. Chanel Harris-Tavita has had opportunities to stake a claim and if he was good enough the club wouldn’t have any reason to look elsewhere.
I like Chanel Harris-Tavita but if there’s a better player available then sweet(not saying Taylor is a better option) Chanel Harris-Tavita and others can rise to the occasion and become better/make most of opportunities as injuries are sure to happen, or they can worry about their feelings and sulk.
On a side note I’ve noticed a lot more indigenous players coming here- is it a deliberate ploy due to I guess our club being a little more in touch with indigenous culture than some others?

I like it. 1 year deal for Ash Taylor as our 3rd string half who will probably get decent game time with Shaun Johnson and Chanel Harris-Tavita likely getting injured.

The biggest thing for him would be getting back in shape. Has turned into abit of a plodder. But was such a gun in his Broncos days and his first couple years at the Titans. Getting rid of that "1mil a season" label will be good for him.

Better than Chanel Harris-Tavita, I’ll take it

Taylor is the best available, and if you are signing him as a back up for Johnson then there is massive upside, providing terms are right. Hes been a pariah because of the massive contract he signed early in his career, and hes struggled to live up to the hype. Hes still only 26, and without that massive pressure of having to be the best player on the park I think we could see him return to some form. Also has a tonne of experience for a back up.
