Welcome Webby!

Good to have you on board, hopefully you have the resilience to select your own Assistants and keep the excitable owner and CEO at bay - while you and yours set about lifting this Club we love so much up from one of its lowest points.

There won’t be pressure from most of us, just support. Unfortunately we’ve had our understanding of low points and disappointments reset.

Add COVid-19 to the mix - and with it the competitions first ever real nomadic tenure and we can now appreciate what it looks like when crowd support, development pathways and reasonable adjudication drain away slowly over time.

We have a decent enough roster to work with and still room for some of your additions. In time we’ll hopefully have some more Jnrs to add to the mix and pressure incumbents to ultimately lift and maintain form and dare I say it - consistency.

Welcome Webby, the ever lasting optimist in me hopes you build a tenure here that rivals and surpasses Uncle Ivan’s, and 3yrs from now we’re arguing over a 4 or 5 yr extension…
Hoping he chooses to do the right thing which in this case is also the hardest thing and choose to work with our current squad. Work out what they can achieve and execute and build a game plan around that rather than a pre conceived plan of how he would like to coach his dream side or even worse say we don’t have the players and we need a three year re build.
I also hope all roles are advertised and a sound process is followed. The last thing he needs is to be saddled with the clubs and the supporters favorites because no one wants to hurt anyones feelings.
Hopefully the club are realizing that sacking coaches makes us an even less desirable
Location over an above all the other disadvantages we face. We have few if any competitive advantages over other teams. Under this ownership and Websters tenure hopefully we can develop a few unique to us.
He is who we have as a coach and the easiest path to success now is in supporting him achieve his ambitions for the team and club.

He's done a long apprenticeship. Been across a few clubs and worked under a few head coaches. That helps build knowledge and see what has worked and what hasn't.

I think this good be an astute signing.

My main concern is that he hopefully follows the Payten route and demands higher standards and constant mistakes etc is not tolerated. Not the Brown route who seemed relaxed about things like they will eventually turn around. Most of our coaches seemed to have gone the Brown route.

It was good to see Webster being recommended by Cleary and also Cleary speaking highly of the club.

In my view, a great appointment and left field!
He could be a very good head coach and someone we can build around.

Webster has had a long apprentiship with some good clubs and he has worked with us before. He is happy with living in NZ. This is a big deal!

He could very well be in the Cleary and Payten mould! I for one an excited for him!

Assistants and S&C staff appointments are now key. I suspect Stacey will coach reserve grade next year. Don’t be surprised if Cappy shows up… just saying.

Who joins him on the coaching staff?
And does Craig Hodges leave as GM Football?

Questions…. Questions…
Yeah I think the fact he came. From. Left field is good. Means 1. he genuinely applied and 2. he wants to come to nz.

Not knowing much about him I think. Is good means we will have to wait and see and keep our expectations in check. Good news he starts with a pretty solid squad with a few missing pieces.

Your dead right about the advantage of him knowing the circumstances and wanting to be here.
He also has the advantage of not being saddled with expectation. I am hoping he knows of really competent people he knows will ably assist him and we can perhaps unearth a few unknown assistants. If the incumbents or current club employees show themselves to be better through the employment process then we can have confidence in them.

Mr Brownstone

Warriors have said all current staff have contracts extending beyond 2022 & none will be leaving - so Justin Morgan will be with us in some capacity next season. Anyone heard how long his contract is for & whether there’s a requirement he’s part of the first grade coaching staff going forward?

That's okay as long as he has a year to sort out where he needs help and a year to find the right guys to get around him. I would be making the incumbents work thier backside off to hold a position.

He was part of SG Ball team. That had moses, brown, koroibete. First winning team at that age for a while 3 decades or something.

Was in and around NYC for Tigers too. Unsure if he overlapped with Payten who won a NYC comp.

I'll be as optimistic as I always am when it comes to Warriors.

You think Webster will have any input on team selection for the rest of the year? Prob not as he’s still on the panthers payroll. Would be handy tho if he wanted to get a head start on testing players/positions for next year.

It is Strang that we let players and all sorts leave b4 there contract are up why then can the Panthers not release him early to us???????

CG said on the radio Webster won't have anything to do with the club until his contract at the Panthers is up.
Every other club in existence would be running key decisions past the new incoming coach… but it would be typical Warriors to go out and fill the remaining roster spots without consulting the incoming coach at all because he is contracted to the panthers.

How many roster spots do we have left open?
