Sposed to be OK as an assistant.

Be great if he brought Cappy back, at least we would have an attacking set move Winger in the corner thing again.

Pipe dreams, as are all the other suggestions.

All we know for sure is we have hired another unproven coach.

Start there, keep realistic, see what happens.

At least we got someone.

He gets my full support whatever happens because he was nuts enough to take the job.

Good luck Webster. Tougher gig than many would think. Going to support you, and hope everyone else does too.

Please don't fuck it up... *jokes*

Could be the last straw for many if this doesn't turn out well.

Strangely I'm OK with this.

He's been with us before, knows what to expect.

It feels odd not having another head coach as a head coach.

I'll give him till round 6 and has anyone asked Shaun Johnson if this is OK?

I like the appointment! For a lot of the reasons people have mentioned before!
He’s done an extensive apprenticeship.
He’s had experience with the club.
He’s lived here and realises it’s not scary to live here.
He’s coming from a very good system.
From all reports players have good respect for him.
Coming with no baggage.

Good luck Webby!
Add to that 2 important aspects. Having coached at the Warriors before he would be the only candidate that truely understands:

- the challenges around recruiting players to Auckland/ NZ
- our unique challenges around travel, later night playing times (time zones), perceived ref bias, etc. all the challenges of being based in a seperate country.

Having this experience will allow him to get up to speed much faster in the first season than other candidates.

Couldn’t agree more.

Also…

I know it’s not the sexy appointment a lot wanted. But it is amazing how negative some people are with it. I’m seeing a lot of upside.

All the this could be me done talk, sigh, sport it littered with long periods of no championships or disappointments. look at Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs for one.

However this appointment goes, I personally think it will go well, I’ll still be on the East Stand after it. Who knows, I might even be 20 years older when it happens.

Bellamy had to be given his first shot somewhere.

Welcome Webby!

Good to have you on board, hopefully you have the resilience to select your own Assistants and keep the excitable owner and CEO at bay - while you and yours set about lifting this Club we love so much up from one of its lowest points.

There won’t be pressure from most of us, just support. Unfortunately we’ve had our understanding of low points and disappointments reset.

Add COVid-19 to the mix - and with it the competitions first ever real nomadic tenure and we can now appreciate what it looks like when crowd support, development pathways and reasonable adjudication drain away slowly over time.

We have a decent enough roster to work with and still room for some of your additions. In time we’ll hopefully have some more Jnrs to add to the mix and pressure incumbents to ultimately lift and maintain form and dare I say it - consistency.

Welcome Webby, the ever lasting optimist in me hopes you build a tenure here that rivals and surpasses Uncle Ivan’s, and 3yrs from now we’re arguing over a 4 or 5 yr extension…

Did anyone notice Cameron George name dropping Aaron Woods into the conversation when talking about Webster developing players at the Tigers? Using Woods as a poster child is a weird flex in itself but even stranger is that Woods was already 12 months into a first grade career when Webster arrived 🤣 CG is a goose

I see Cove agency (AKA Moses) hasn't put anything of the move on their Insta/Facebook page - Which they generally do if their clients do something. Assume he's changed management thankfully..
Let's really hope so or this could be the beginning of the end.

I'm on the bandwagon, wish Webster all the best. He needs full control to appoint his staff and have a big input into the Junior Pathways program.

At least he knows the lay of the land, but sharing Mt Smart with Moana Pasifika is gonna be different for him and the boys.

He's got a decent roster to work with, something NZW HQ got right IMO Just hope Mohawk controls himself and CG goes back to running the business side of the club.
