And I think he shouldn't be doing any of that. Keep the illusion of competition alive, and don't give your opposition your players and likely gameplan.
Agreed - I would also add that we and most people would have thought that would be the case. They would also see that in the trials. As long as he doesn't name our centre and wingers too early as those are the most unknown areas ....mind you the could mean he doesn't know who will play where yet. As he has already talked about 1, 6 & 7 as well as the starting pack....

Team lists are always announced a few days before the game anyway so generally opposition will most of the time know who's playing where anyway and just because a player is announced in a position doesn't mean they will stay there the whole game depending on how the team goes.

Also a team that needs to respond to an opponents game plan isn't as likely to win imo. Better to focus on your own game plan and what you want to do than to try stop what opponents are going to do.

I don't mind what Webster has said regarding team selection. He hasn't promised anyone certain spots and has mentioned a couple times he'll be picking the best players to play each week. Just because he has confirmed a few things many people already suspected doesn't mean every opposition is suddenly going to go, "Oh we know exactly what they're going to do and have to do x y z to win."

We are the warriors no one will bother preparing in advance to combat our predicted line up.
No need to keep our cards close to our chest.

Holbrook's season ended when he added Isaako to the side.

I think what he is saying isnt exactly giving out any huge secrets and fairly generic. As the season gets closer and trials happen every coach will make similar comments in interviews.
Your top players are the guys who will get first chance and the competition comes from the younger guys working hard and taking their chances. standard stuff i reckon.

Yeah once it's sorted and everyone trained hard. Not now before even the trial games. Dumb move.

This was a pretty interesting read on what a typical day at the Warriors currently looks like.

One of the things I found really interesting is how other players not in the "Fun Club" or who have reached their goals and are no longer required to go, still go to support the others needing the extra fitness time. Let's hope that attitude of doing what it takes and supporting their teammates stays throughout the season.

Why did you have to ruin my buzz by making me think about that?

sorry, I have been so uninvested with this team for the past few seasons. I'm happy with Webster as coach as long as he gets 3 - 5 years. Thought I might start to get a bit more interested in this season and all i could think about was 'where is Iro?'

After reading this I got really pumped for the season. It sounds like Webster is doing everything in his power for us to succeed. Still not sure we have the players to make the 8 but I am hopeful that we have no more ANZAC massacres...

I was more interested to hear if or how much of this was new to our club.

I mean its all great stuff but i wouldve thought this was pretty standard for a professional outfit. If our guys havent been exposed to a lot off this sort of thing then geez just shows how much behind the eight ball we've been under previous set ups.

That's a fascinating insight into what seems to be a far more professional and taxing Warriors pre-season. With his 4.40am starts and Bellyache-ish early morning workouts, Webby is obviously making a statement about setting standards for his players. He also seems to be embracing technology to facilitate personal growth in a way that Brownie certainly never did. I knew Nathan many years back and actually ghost-wrote his columns for a year or two. When he got the Warriors gig, I reached out to his manager and asked if he could reconnect us. His manager told me that Brownie was "not great with tech" so a phone call was the best way to get hold of him. Ultimately Brownie's old-school approach failed miserably. The signs are promising (for now at least) that Webby's new school ideology could be just what this club needed.

If you were to rate our Assistant coaches vs other teams , we’d be in a bit of strife.
I’ve heard Webster talk about Morgan, Jones, Agar, Griffin in glowing terms but I’d prefer the likes of Maguire and others ahead of these guys.
Oh well …
