What was the first RL club you played for and the last. This could also include other sports if you didn’t play RL.

RL:
First: Pt Chev
Last: Glenora
My ‘real’ club was New Lynn , my family was heavily involved . They were a feeder club to Glenora back in the day.

First and Last club was the Tarawera Raiders in Kawerau.

Started in under 13s. The year before I harassed my class mates who were playing under 11s for the entire year about playing the next year.

A lot of fun/interesting times. A lot of laughs playing rugby league in a small town.

A lot of waiting around to see if we had a game or not. Some at the field looking around at all the arriving teams an noticing there are no kids our size. Or waiting at the meeting point and finally hearing the game is not going ahead. Some of those when they blamed the opposition it probably was some lazy grown ups not wanting to drive us.

I also think we may have invented the tight jerseys as most age groups we seemed to have jerseys sized for a year or two below us.

Started out age 11 at Mt Wellington.encouraged to join by my mate who was only 13 but a big
Maori lad. I was the skinny, Pakeha addition with bad sight, What were my parents thinking !!
We found ourselves playing in the under 18's because they were always short of players.
Got myself knocked out in my debut game & was quickly dropped to Under 12's.
It's oK guys. I don't need the counselling anymore :D
We used to practice & play at Pt England Reserve. They were good days.
Then went to Ellerslie Eagles for a couple of years. Also tried a bit of AFL in Takapuna but gave it up for a life of drunken debauchery - failed at that too.

Dad was a ref & Mum drove the kids & bought us all Georgie Pie when we won - which wasn't too often. The scariest thing out was to turn up at Ngati Otara Park in the early morning fog & have the opposition open grade appearing out of the mist. Jeez they were big kids
The most memorable was a massive punch up with the Howick Hornets where I got my nose broken. Even the parents got involved. We called that one a draw. Ah the good old days

I dabbled at it but wasn’t strong enough

Three athletics clubs instead:
One Cumbria, one London and one Gateshead. Middle distance, road and track

Never played league
But cricket started with Hamilton city council junior cricket at an 8 year old
Rugby played for my MBA school team as a very slow left wing who made heavy tackles on opposition wings and centres. Was defensive player of the day in my second ever game.

I remember I wore those soft shell shoulder pads and a mouth piece which is virtually no protection compared to what I wear as a batsman in cricket.

Papakura Sea Eagles.

Before they were good.

Weirdest injury I've ever seen was this guy from Mt Albert treid to head but one of our guys.

He missed and toppled forward connecting his head the the opponents hip bone!

Dude split his head open and I mean bad. He didnt realise, got up and shaped up with his fist.
Our guy backed away from the dude, then was chased around the feild a bit by this dude out of of horror movie till the guy realised and fell on the ground.

Forgotten all the games. Allways remember that figure from the Walking dead in a Lions Jersey.

How are we going to keep occupied while there is no league and we are stuck at home?

Do you guys subscribe to any channels on YouTube that do watch-alongs of movies?
Basically you sync up your stream/DVD and watch the movie along with the people on the channel talking over it.

We could get a game people have access to and everyone watches it either during the week or we do a similar time and do a post match like it was just played.

YouTube for example have:
Raiders vs Warriors - Round 3 2018
Titans vs Warriors - 2018
Storm vs Warriors - Semi Final 2008 (split in two parts)

Yeah I thought this too..

First club was as a 5 year old for Pakuranga Jaguars. My father was keen for me to play rugby he was damned if his son was gonna be a poof and play the newly introduced new image rugby game. League still tackled and that was good enough for him.

Such were the times.

When I was old enough to play tackling rugby I joined Marist St Pats which was the last existing Primary School rugby club in NZ based out of St Patrick's Primary in Panmure and affiliated to the Marist club that used to be based in Ellerslie.

Played the rest of my time at St Pats, Marist then Sacred Heart College but then teenage angst and rebellion set in and getting high or my dick wet took priority.

Last team I played for was Edgewater College 2nd XV at 16 and that was the end of any active sport as my wayward years really kicked into overdrive.

Truth is I was average at sport but its just what kids did back then. You joined a weekend sports team and got stuck in. At St Pats their wasn't a single boy in my class who wasn't in the team. It was almost part of the curriculum. I never knew there was any other option. From the sporty boys to the nerds, we all played.

Winter was oval ball, summer was round ball...

Only ever played social league.

Played hockey as a goalkeeper from primary through to senior club level with a few age grade rep teams thrown in for good measure plus non-travelling reserve for the seniors national tournament. Was asked to trial for the Midlands rep team but declined as I knew I wouldn't make it.

One of the best sporting moments was making the final of a secondary school tournament which featured top teams from all around NZ. One team had pulled out so they made a combined team up from two of the local high schools 2nd XI's. We got through to the final while both the teams first elevens from the two collages didn't even make it past pool stage.

Worst injury I've seen on a hockey field. We went from Tauranga over to Hamilton to play another high school. Their goalkeeper was late arriving to the game and rushed to get his gear on - and forgot his box. Part way through the game, the ball got deflected upwards and he copped it in the family jewels. Was carried of the field with blood pouring out his shorts. From that day on, I also made sure the box was the first bit of equipment I put in place.

Worse weather I've ever played in. A sports day in college playing on a ground right beside the Tauranga harbor on a grass pitch (yes, we did used to play on grass back in the day) during the middle of a storm. The rain got so bad, I couldn't see the goalkeeper at the other end of the pitch.

Worst game on an artificial pitch was on the old sand based turf out at Pukekohe without proper drainage and part of the pitch was 1 & 1/2 inches under water.

Played junior grades for Glenora. Gave it up after twice popping my shoulder (first time was non-league related). I was a junior cricket rep and it was my bowling shoulder so had to choose one over the other.

Yeah, it's weird being stuck at home all the time. Watching a lot of older TV shows and movies at the moment (Indiana Jones, The Shield this week).

Turned to online gaming a bit more (even though I suck at it). When my daughter is around it's cartoon stuff like Rocket League and Fortnite, COD and Dead by Daylight at non-daughter times.

Always open to recommendations though if anyone plays anything good.

I never played rugby league for club or school (just with mates as there was no option to play league where I lived) but played many other sports. Played rugby union, soccer and cricket for Greenhithe when I was young. Was a winger and lock forward but I didn't have the size or speed to continue which was disappointing for me. My main memories from playing rugby are standing out on the wing, barely being passed the ball and having frozen feet.

Played first XI cricket for several years at college and then for the Takapuna club. I got into table tennis quite seriously in college as well and that was probably the sport I could have gone far in. Played for Auckland under 19's in a few national tournaments.

Worst injury was playing cricket and being hit in the temple by a bouncer which gave me concussion. In the same game I got a bat thrown at me when I was at slip and doing some sledging. One week later got punched and kicked in the head in the same place that I was concussed while going clubbing. Had a serious car crash when I was about 20 years old. Stuffed up my back so had to retire from playing all sports.

My favorite league memory is going to the Warriors first ever game against the Broncos at Mt Smart when I was about 10 years old. This got me hooked on following the sport. Loved it ever since. My favorite player back then was Hitro Okasene. Man we could do with a player like him at the moment!

Here's some highlights from that 1995 game for anyone interested.

Never played much sport outside of with mates and mucking about - bit of softball and touch rugby. I was 10 or 11 when the Warriors came into being, and by that point I was pretty set in my ways of reading comics and trading cards and playing Mortal Kombat, haha. Pretty sure I joined a card trading club in intermediate, to does that count?? .. actually led to a few scraps and a broken thumb.

I regret I didn't get to play league in high school, would have been good just for the experience and memories.

Instead things only got worse from there unfortunately - joined an anime club in my high school years. And before you ask, yes.... It was a chick repellent :p

Played schoolboy league through the 50s for Ellerslie.
1959 to 1962 most weekends watched Eastern United playing in the district scheme.
Mid to late 60s played 3rd grade and seniors for Mount Wellington.
Played alongside Doug Ellwood, Ray Townsend,Bill Burgoyne and Colin Wells.. Gave it away the year before Dane and Kurt Sorenson moved into the SENIOR team
